Hey Al, speaking of unpopular Subaru engines, have you ever played with the old EA82? I have a Loyale (Leone) that I jammed a TD04 on on low boost. I think I may open up the engine and put a few miles into the ring gap, add a real ecu and turn it up. They have forged rods from the factory (just going off the thick seam line) and a closed deck block. I've also been ice racing it, just zinging it to 7k rpm sliding sideways, zero problems.

@andrewstewart14644 жыл бұрын
@@@PatricioGarcia1973 yes maybe, but the need for constant pump lubrication still stands. The best way I see it is to run it at lower load so that it isn't generating that much heat and friction. The same could be done for a mechanical PS pump by reducing the drive ratio, but that's pricier trial and error with pulleys than varying electric pump load. @Team Axle Stands what pump was used?

I suspect that a larger inlet tube than outlet on the sump, connected to a Y that has a larger outlet than inlets, will help with the scavenging. I'm guessing the problem you had was one would flow free and the other will fill up with oil. By creating a restriction on the outlet of the sump and increasing the size of the Y outlet, I think it will cause the pump to pull on both sides more equally.

Just read Team Axle Stands comment, was wondering if instead of engine oil for the turbo, you could use the powersteering oil & pump to lubricate the turbos? The hydraulic oil would handle the heat / lubrication a lot better and the PS pump would be more reliable? if the turbo blows contaminated oil would not destroy the engine.

Al, question about the scavenging the low mount turbo setup. Have you ever tried a mechanical system from a dry sump scavenge pump? They often use twin 2-lobe roots pump, very small in size and normally belt driven. A bit expensive though, well a lot expensive. Have seen a few low mount current model Mustangs in the States using this setup from Dailey engineering. If using electric, what pump do you find most reliable for daily driving? Cheers, Mike.

sorry stupid question , but why do you need those scavage blocks underneeth the turbo. if there is 4 bar oil pressure going in the turbo there is 4 bar oil pressure going out of the turbo.
@theskidfactory4 жыл бұрын
There is foamed low pressure oil coming out of the turbo drain. The sump is to allow the oil to gravity drain and collect. The sump has a breather that allows the scavenge pump to draw fluid in without pulling a vacuum.

@theskidfactory4 жыл бұрын

@esdrubaldino4 жыл бұрын
In my country at least people don't use that engine as much, firstly because they are actually rare here, and secondly because EJs are everywhere, and they probably are a bit more fuel friendly than H6s I'm guessing, but mainly because they are pretty rare here.
@esdrubaldino4 жыл бұрын
@zeroyon223 Yea, on Highway they're usually better, but that can be due to the gearbox. I've never driven a H6, but I'm curious as I'm sure they are very "torquie". In Europe people are always worried about fuel economy, and also We pay a higher tax as the engine gets bigger, and some countries don't even let you change the engine, and when they do, You pay a lot of money just to certify them, so people just stick with the EJ series. And like I said, for some reason Subaru didn't sell Legacys 3.0 or even they're SUVs much in Europe (in some countries yes, but not all of them), so to get an EZ engine is quite hard, and I'm guessing since the EJ engine was available everywhere and the EZ not as much, makes the aftermarket for the EZ series very scarce. Either way, as Al said, if it's not plug 'n play, people usually don't buy them
@Shadowmosesarea514 жыл бұрын
Is there no way you can fit some sort of small pump for the turbo to pump the oil rather that gravity drain?
