Only rode it a few times. But as a person who was a regular KRL user, I can feel the significantly slower speed of the LRT. WHat do you think of the speed ? is it a normal LRT operating speed comparable to same system on other cities you've visited ?
@johanstravel2 ай бұрын
The LRT is slower indeed, even with large distances in between some stations. Any curve is taken much slower than average, which absolutely not the case on light rail in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok for example. (to keep it in the region). I guess that's caused by the design fault of some of the long span bridges being too narrow, so that problem will never be fixed. Also, KRL trains pull up and stop much better than these LRT trains it seems. Maybe that's because they have a driver?

@@johanstravel There is a similar problem with the narrow section in Canada's LRT made by Alstrom. They still cant fix the issue for years now. I dont think driver-less is an issue for LRT, KRL probably just have better brakes for the much heavier system. And this LRT is new so they probably need to operate conscientiously while evaluating and can update the autonomous sytem in the future.
@audeanroderick80192 ай бұрын
@@johanstravelmy personal opinion about the speed is because of the length of the train relative to the curvy and tight tracks. Compared to lrt jabodebek, Lrt jakarta is much shorter and use jacobs bogie (together with it’s short length makes curve handling a piece of cake). As for the errors, i observe that it is much more common in cawang to jatimulya section of the tracks. I use the cibubur line 4 times a week (still trying to transition from my car) and have never experienced any trouble with the train journey these past few months.

The number of passengers is still increasing rapidly if we look at the first three quarters of 2024 (below). Ridership on weekdays is about twice as much as during weekdays/holidays. I think the numbers are pretty decent, also taking into account trains operate about 2 hours shorter than commuterline trains. Q1 2024 3.841.552 ~ 42.200/day Q2 2024 4.844.096 ~ 53.200/day Q3 2024 5.968.184 ~ 65.500/day

is it me or when both of the LRT lines branch of from cawang, theres is a really noticable change in station spacing? I feel like putting stations 3-5kms apart while still in dense jakarta and dense bekasi city is just missing big opportunity to increase ridership.. cant blame the system itself since the planners built it next to a highway
@afl67862 ай бұрын
Ya digoogle maps pun begitu
@johanstravel2 ай бұрын
The distances between stations don't make sense at all indeed. Between Cawang and Ciliwung it's a few hundred meters, but others are several kilometers apart. This is due to the fact that the construction company for this LRT is also a land bank. They built stations where they own land so they can develop TOD later. Not the worst idea, but they should have been demanded to build stations elsewhere as well. I hope there will be infill-stations added now the system is getting just below 100k passengers a day (and growing).

Is the connection to MRT station efficient and easy?
@johanstravel2 ай бұрын
The connection is there, but it's not convenient, although entirely walkable by pedestrian paths now. From LRT Dukuh Atas you can exit to the right, taking the skywalk over the canal, tap in at Sudirman station, tap out again a minute later (1 rupiah fare only) and then walk along the Kendal Tunnel to enter Dukuh Atas MRT station. Given this, the tunnel alone used to be a permanent traffic jam years ago, so there has been much improvement already. Most likely more to come in coming years.

Urban toll is the worst you can build tbh. That's never a solution and can see that by a number of cities that have since removed large highways in their city cores. Even some in the USA are talking about doing something about those freeways cutting up cities. More lightrail is needed, it's relatively quick to built and above ground so no danger to other traffic.
