@@mikesmithz in Disney's defense, everyone has lost big money on streaming, except for netflix. Everyone else has lost money, and a lot of it. Demand is very weird and disconnected, in streaming. If people have to buy movie tickets, or pay to watch, then it's obvious what the demand is. If demand is high, people pay money to watch your product. Streaming has destroyed pricing sensitivity from the industry. If demand is high, that doesn't necessarily have any impact on your revenue, which comes from subscription fees, not ticket sales (or ad sales). If you are a streaming service, there's no difference to you between a customer who forgot to cancel their subscriptions and the world's most passionate star wars fan who watches star wars everyday. Both of them pay the same subscription fee. The deeper problem how the industry is all merged into itself, studios/content creators have merged with distributors. This used to be illegal (look up the Paramount Consent Decrees), because it destroys fair competition, and screws both customers and workers. It's actually illegal for Disney to own their own movie theaters, for example, where they show their own movies (imagine the kind of shenanigans Disney could pull off, screwing rival movie theaters, if they were allowed to do this). It's illegal for _any_ studio to be their own distributor, when it comes to the non-streaming world. And yet, they're allowed to own their own streaming service. It doesn't make any sense. Many problems in modern media, they can be traced back to how streaming has destroyed price sensitivity. No one has any idea what the demand really is, anymore.
