Perhaps you could do Belle, if Gaston wins and she can’t save her love in time, before he kills him and comes at her gloating and trying to force her to marry him again. She could come vengeful back to the village that always whispered behind her back, and now murdered the Beast without even knowing him. She could come alone, or with an army of equally vengeful furniture.

I really love the line "How's it feel to stain your family name?" because it's totally mocking the fact that the family and Abuela especially are so focused on having this "perfect" image/reputation and Mirabel is taking that all away in a matter of seconds.

The original version I think also has a subtext of by not talking about Bruno, we also don’t talk about the problems the family has. The grandmother wants to keep up this image of perfection for the family, so by not talking about the family’s black sheep (Bruno) we are pretending like everything is okay even when it isn’t. Unfortunately, by talking about it the family’s image is perfected, which is what gets the grandmother to lash out at Mirabel and causes the big blowup at the films climax. This could be an alternate way that blowup happens, with Mirabel blaming everyone else for how she feels, rather than calling out the grandmother for how she’s been acting. Still could be a great scene if it ever happened.

@@davidvaldezjr5546yeah, i saw that. But it would be cool if it got rebuilt into a dark thing under Mirabel’s influence. She technically crumbled it in the original, too (though it wasn’t exactly her fault), and it got rebuilt and had her on the front door, like a potential family leader to replace Abuela when the time comes. So I wondered what could happen to casita if it got rebuilt to serve this Mirabel’s wishes, if the protective magic of love got twisted into something much darker (while technically still being protective, of her and Bruno).

Honestly, I’m surprised at how sound Mirabel’s morals stayed throughout the movie. She was told to just straight up stop helping prepare for the ceremony, forced to hide out of sight during the event, given death stares when she did step out, and excluded from the family portrait without a thought. Yet, she immediately put aside her own suffering when she found out how much anguish her family members were carrying around. She had every right to turn the movie into her villain origin story.

I feel that I need to remind everyone - Mirabel is 15. _Fifteen years old._ Still in her early teens, which to a lot of people are some of the most intense years of their lives, me being one of them. If I was in her seat at that age, the relationship with my family would be forever ruined at best or I would've burned everything down to the ground at worst. Yet Mirabel shows unending compassion and love to everyone in her family throughout the entire movie. She gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and she never did or said anything to hurt anyone. At no point did the family, _especially_ the grandmother, seem to fully realize what they had done to both Mirabel and Bruno. There was never a moment where they seemed to receive the guilt they should be feeling, and they never apologized for how badly they had treated them. There was no doubt that they cared for them, but the way they acted is absolutely unforgivable in my opinion. Mirabel and Bruno deserved so much better and got _so much less_ than that.

the family, besides alma, never really apologized because what happened wasn't really their fault. i see alot of people commenting on how badly they treated them, but there's never really any on-screen evidence of them being harsh to them in specific. the most i can see is pepa coming off as rude to her, which is just a result from her always anxious and overly emotional personality. and then there's isabela, which if u have siblings, we all know that's just how sibling rivalries are. the "hatred" isn't one sided, and if u read the encanto books, it reveals isa's pov and her thoughts are not at all malicious nor were her intentions behind her actions. it was definitely NOT abuse considering they were all victims of generational trauma, and their was absolutely no cruel intent. as far as we know, the village is mostly what ostracized bruno, and alma clearly had no clear understanding of his gift. bruno left on his own accord, he simply wanted to protect mirabel from being ostracized. alma hated his name, i think, because of him leaving without a word. of course, they'll think of that bitterly. none of the family, nor townspeople actually, showed any cruelty toward mirabel, maybe other than the unintentional osvaldo. everyone was happy to see bruno, and clearly he didn't see a need for them to apologize.

The fact that she left most of her family out of it is astounding. She only truly attacked four people, her aunt that would literally blow up on people, her cousin who would never speak up about the things she heard, abuala who started the hate against anyone "not perfect," and her golden sister who seems to have always hated her. And then during the song her sis pretty much conferms what she was saying when she goes for the vine killshot. I should also mention that even though Casita is crumbling around her due to her snapping I think Casita is still on her side as evidence by her being able to waltz right out of the house and the fact that her sister's power turned off at the perfect moment even though the candle was still lite

It's entirely likely that they're just trapped in the courtyard with Casita collapsed around them. Given the tone of the other Encanto villain songs, and that they need to be alive to suffer the consequences, I'd even wager that Mirabel used her control of the candle to insure the house didn't collapse directly on top of them. You can definitely interpret it as Casita falls everyone dies, but that's not the only vaid interpretation or even necesarily the most likely outcome given the other factors involved.

It's poetic on so many levels. The fact she had to grab the vine at all implies she had to act in her own defense: against her family. The candle was all about their bond as a family. The magic dying in that moment was a poetic nail in the coffin. You can't take back attacking someone. Not even your own blood. In an alternate storyline, that alone could have been Mirabelle's plan all along to kill the magic. She just needs someone to wield it directly on her.

A small thing that I love is at 2:01. Mirabel's butterfly imagery has been the symbol of her love for her family, but also her feelings of uselessness and feebleness compared to them. At this moment, she's finally said 'screw it' and spring-boarded into her revenge plan. And those wings, for a brief second, turn from a symbol of weakness into something else. The wings behind her aren't butterfly wings. They're bird wings. The wings of a predator. The wings of a harbinger.

YES THIS IS IT!!!!! This is literally what A LOT of people imagined happening with Mirabel watching Encanto for the very first time. @@Rainbow_Butterfly I'd have to disagree with Julieta, Augustine, Felix, and Luisa. Julieta and Augustine are Mirabel's parents, if anyone should be supporting her, it should be them, but what do they actually do in the movie, they sit there and worry. They don't really do much else, even during the family photo in Antonio's room, they don't say "Mirabel, come join us" or anything. They take the picture without her, and don't even mention her name, just letting her sulk off away from everyone else. It isn't until it's too late that they both try and defend Mirabel from Abuella. Felix is just as guilty as Pepa, due to encouraging her to just calm herself down instead of actually dealing with the problem. He's no less guilty than she is with her ignorance, and in fact, encourages it. When the original "We Don't Talk About Bruno", Felix stands by as she talks poorly about her own brother. He does nothing to try and give an actual reason, but instead lets her out of control emotions take of her. Luisa is just as guilty as Isabella is, for the same reason. Luisa is putting herself in so much pressure to help maintain the family name, just as Isabella does. So, for the same reasons, Luisa neglects Mirabel. That doesn't mean she's rude to Mirabel, like Isabella, but the point remains, think of it from Mirabel's perspective, Isabella treats her horridly and ignores her needs. Luisa ignores her need for compassion entirely, so why shouldn't Luisa be the same? However, Antonio could also be placed into Mirabel's circle of hate. When he got his gift, it could have felt like a betrayal, or being cut off from a good friend. It could also be a hint of jealousy, but otherwise, Antonio is on her good side, even going to help her when the rest of the family is convinced she needs to be stopped.

Imo Dolores and Isabella have some pretty solid reasons to become villains. Dolores probably knows horrible secrets about everyone she loves, and she's expected to just keep quiet about it for the family's sake even though nobody is considerate about how awful her power is (or the fact she's about to lose the guy she loves.) Isabella isn't even allowed to be herself and could easily snap from the pressure of being forced into a loveless marriage. She could be an even more powerful version of Poison Ivy.

@@astralaurora4165 Iv had this conversation with numerous people and the generational trauma thing doesnt work since most of the problems they have are not generationally based. They are entirely around their distrust and mistreatment of one person. Bruno. This is covered specifically in 'We don talk about bruno' and his later description of his perspective of those events. Anything he said regardless of context was taken as him reading the future so everyone started acting like he was fucking with them on purpose. This is not generational trauma. This is interpersonal relationships failing because everyone else treated 1 person like shit despite knowing how his powers worked. The generational trauma bit falls apart more when you look at the family members who are notably not assholes. The muscle sister(again cant remember her name but she was pretty good) is treated objectively like a pack mule, in fact its alluded to in her song. Her treatment is not generational trauma, her treatement is a very common latin family trope of one member of the family taking on the brunt of work and burden. My grandmother in my family would be this person and yeah its super common. Mirabels mother just seems detached from the entire thing and clearly has no intention of telling her family to chill the fuck out and how the hell is that generational trauma? That is her allowing bad behavior in ways that are very common to alot of families, avoiding conflict in favor of general comfort. The Grandmother treats mirabel like crap out of long term fear of a vision of the future that she does nothing to do anything about and a very obvious disdain for her not being 'part of the family' when it comes to said powers. I mean the childrens room thing alone would be considered deeply disrespectful to basically anyone. This completely ignores her complete lack of defense of her Son Bruno who she apparently loves very much but not enough to do anything about it when everyone treats him like shit. When this movie came out everyone called it an example of generational trauma being the villain but thats not how the actual story plays out. No one seems to have any functional fear or damage done by the revolution before them other than a fear of the outside world which is only lightly touched on, instead the entire central premise of the movie is around how much they distrust each other and treat each other like dicks. Again Turning Red(a much better movie) has actual generational trauma in it, expressing how the central problem of the movie functions in the characters lives and how it shaped their family. Now as a breakdown of how the more unpleasant ways that mexican/latin in general families can treat each other its pretty on point. I have family members who act like these people.

“I’m the villain in your fairytale now” really shows how aware she is of the harm she’s causing everyone and how it looks to them, and it seems she’s feeling absolutely no remorse. She also really sees how much everyone lives like they’re in some sort of fairytale (which they are but they don’t know this) because of their gifts, and Mirabel had to see the world from a different perspective because of her neglect and the fact that she didn’t really have a gift. This whole song gave me chills and it’s just amazing. I can even imagine this animated by Disney if this were to be what happened. Would be like a cool short for them to do if they ever saw this.

I love the line “but I see all the thorns you hide” meaning Mirabel gained some sort of an understanding of Isabela somehow in this au, yet she doesn’t show much sympathy. It parallels the canon ending where Isabela admits to not wanting to marry Mariano but Mirabel only cares about hugging her to fix the candle. Obviously, in canon Mirabel and Isabela find a mutual understanding of each other, especially with the timeskip at the end, but in the au Mirabel and Isabela remain at odds with each other, even after understanding each others perspectives.
@raeofsunshine8377
@raeofsunshine8377 Жыл бұрын
i also interpreted this as a deeper look at canon isabela, specifically in the moments where she scolds mirabel. in chasing her own perfection, isabela also pushes others to uphold her standard. so unlike luisa, who protects her sisters by shouldering all the weight, isabela reinforces the pressure that mirabel already feels to "be better", without actually helping her improve.

I read this cover as "if Mirabel had more self-esteem" maybe to the point of being a bit self centered, but even that's arguable. just not pushing aside the harm her family has done to her. even with Isa, this is just her saying "you don't even want him, but still, you would prefer to trap yourself into a loveless marriage to preserve the family name. the family name that's done so much harm to my own. how dare you? how DARE you??"

@@ericelestineyorfrylle1525 I think it's because she had developed unhealthy perfectionism for herself (under pressure from Abuela and the community), and now projected the same perfectionism on others, and yet Mirabel (from her point of view) kept acting clumsy and causing trouble when she tried too hard to be useful and noticed. Which, in a high stress situation, leads her to lose patience at her little sister. Of course, we know that what happened with Mirabel was more complex than that, but from Isabela's POV (who only sees a small part of Mirabel's actions) it looked that way.

That her family either tries to run from Mirabel when confronted with their mistakes - literally running from the uncomfortable truth - or in Isabela's (maybe a little of Alma) case, attacking her - just like she had been verbally and mentally been attacked by them for years. How when she addresses the family she above them - like in the flashbacks. Theyre golden and gifted and above her. But now theyre tarnished and so below her love.....

That last shot where Mirabel exits the Casita through the doors feels incredibly symbolic. Mirabel always wanted a room with her own personal doors when she was expecting the gift when she was young only to be denied and had no where to stay but in the nursery. Can we take a second to appreciate that quick frame in 2:23 (and maybe 2:21)? The small detail that looks like Camilo is running away from his sister and towards Mirabel - not out of anger or in an attempt to stop her like Isabela did - but out of concern? Whereas the rest of the family expressed rage, fear, or even apathy during Mirabel’s “monologuing”, Camilo seemed genuinely concerned for his cousin.

Pair that with them being so close in age, him being just a little bit older, It makes sense that he would be the one that would comfort her. He was probably raised to be protective of Mirabel because he was the older boy, and she was the younger girl. But, he had to keep up appearances with the family and do his job and as he got older, he was just pulled away so much and didn't have as much time for her, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care.

It would had certainly been interesting if there was a more in your face conflict, like isabella attacking Mirabel with one of her plants, then Mirabel, in anger, would stop her foot down and casita would just knock isabella down and everyone finally acknowledges that Mirabel's gift is the relationship with casita, and as such her "room" is all of casita.

Telling that gaining and keeping Abuela's love was like a constant struggle since even after gaining it, you are restricted to be that perfect version and what is expected from you. Such love is like a shackle rather than a necklace of roses. So such love is definitely something that you are 'freed' of rather than being 'deprived' of. Louisa finds she doesn’t need to take on every single burden, she can relax and occasionally ask for help, Isabella doesn’t need to be perfect or make beautiful flowers, she can experiment with different plant species, Bruno is no longer an outcast in his own family. Mirabelle crushing the butterfly symbolizes her throwing away that brighter future for the Madrigals, she’s destroying Casita and stripping everyone of their gifts, in a sense, she’s freeing them, but it’s a cruel freedom because Pepa still bottles up her emotions, Louisa still feels like she has to take on every burden, Isabella still feels like she needs to be perfect for the family, now more than ever, Camillo feels like no one would want him for himself, Bruno’s still an outsider, Alma’s mental health is going to be worse, possibly even self destructive because she sees how much pain she’s put her family through, but can’t see any way to fix things, and Julieta and Augustine, well, I don’t think their futures are bright either, and poor Antonio’s going to have to grow up with of this pain and despair, I don’t think he’ll even have a future because remember, he’s a child, he might try to look for his cousin and get lost or even killed, further plunging the family into despair.

My favorite part is the last two lines. "Its your end of days and yet you all still say, we don't talk about Bruno." Cause that is what happens in the movie. Cracks form and discord between the family erupts yet they all refuse to talk about Bruno (or in other words, the actual problem within their family).

I love how from 0:55-0:57 you see that Dolores has always heard the whispers about Mirabel but never decided to do anything like lend out a hand towards her to feel loved. Much like how she kept Bruno hiding in the house all these years a secret from the rest of the family because of the whole "we don't talk about Bruno". It's great to see her feeling guilty about staying silent and not helping Mirabel despite knowing all the negative things people say about her. And I love the jab at Alma just because that's what every grandkid and Pepa are doing, constantly trying to get her love and approval by being at her perfect standards. That's why Isabella is Alma's golden child who's pretty, has a flowery gift, and most importantly is Alma's version of "perfect". Edit: After listening for a while you can hear background whispers from the moment she starts singing all the way up to the start of Isabelle's section. This shows Pepa always bad talking about Mirabel and keeping the family form talking about Bruno, Delores hearing it all and Alma not doing a damn thing but encouraging it. It's sad.

Oh my god, absolutely cold. The visuals were stunning and felt vibrant despite the lack of color. Not only that but the usage of Mirabel being the butterfly after destroying the golden one and knowing the symbolism behind it. By far that was absolutely brutal how she left her entire family to be buried underneath Casita's remains. It's amazing how the vocals remained composed and cold even when everything was breaking down before them, this wasn't a moment of hysteria in fact it was just the culmination of everything to the point it tipped over and just coldly let anger take its course. Absolutely phenomenal and downright chilling! Marvellous work to everyone who worked on this!

that looks more lika a moth honestly. It's also a better symbol that mirabel can either become a golden butterfly , the savior of the family or a green moth, the toxin that is going to ruin them all. i got so many chills from it i love it! Bruno's profecy goes both ways in the movie so this scenario is entirely plausible had mirabel not being that strong mentally and not giving in to the build up negative feelings from her family's abuse

I feel like 0:37 is an underrated part of the animation because it can both be interpreted as like Bruno seeing the prophesy of Mirabel in the past and being shocked or what i like to imagine..Bruno lurking somewhere in the backround(like he is in the OG song) and watching her actually standing up like this and she sort of puts her hand out..almost as if to say "This isn't your fight anymore" and he's shocked by that(possibly because he knows what it means) because he could never do all this yet he deserves the same justice she does bc let's not kid ourselves..Mirabel remaining a hero throughout is a shocker with what they put her and Bruno through like the saying goes "A child not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel it's warmth"

It’s both brilliant and kind of sad that unlike the other “Disney Princess Villain Songs” on this channel, nothing in Encanto’s story had to change for this to be believable. All you had to do was have it so Mirabel makes the understandable decision to NOT forgive them for their mistreatment of her, or allowing it to continue. I can even see two moments in the movie where she probably snapped: either during her fight with Isabella or her fight with Alma. Hell, it probably could have just been that Alma quickly found her during her fight with Isabella and just joined in. Both times in the movie, Mirabel was blamed for everything wrong in their lives, and in Isabella’s case, she NEVER apologizes for that. Can you really blame her for deciding she was “done playing nice” after that? Such fine work all around.

Very wonderful and dark take on what it means to chase love. Mirabel only ever wanted acceptance, to know she was a part of the family. But the love came as conditional to her. That she needed a gift, or she was not worthy of attention, of helping, of having as much love as everyone else. Mirabel worked and bled for any love she could, and that turned her bitter as she realized that love was not worth chasing, but unfortunately, she fell to villainy before she could have that revelation, and now she will destroy her family's gifts and possibly more as she brings down their home.
