Do I still have to soak the rice if I have a rice cooker?
@Maangchi
@Maangchi Жыл бұрын
You can make this in a pressure cooker not with a normal rice cooker. 1. Put 2 cups of washed and drained rice in a pressure cooker. No need to soak it. 2. Add the caramel sauce, seasoning sauce, honey, jujubes, raisins, pine nuts, chestnuts, and the dried cranberries (if used). 3. Add 1 cup of water and set the pressure cooker to make rice. Check out the description box in any video and follow the link for the written recipe. Every video has a written recipe where I provide more detailed information such as ingredients, step by step directions, stories behind, photos, and tips.

We have quite similar dish called Wajik Durian. It's much more stickier and mixed with durian. Though we don't add nuts to it. This recipe looks lighter and seems to suit my tastebud. Gonna try it later ;)

I bought 3 of your books. One for myself, one for my patient ( he had been exposed to korean food during the vietnam war working with korean soldiers. His American wife makes kimchi for him. His father was a Korean war vet too), & a student whose mom is Korean but she lives many states away from mom. Your cook book means so much more for us. Oh my coworker is bringing a copy to Germany next week since her son (who lived in korea for 3 years) lives in Germany now with a korean girlfriend. they make Korean food there all the time too. My coworker was so excited to see how nice the book was. Of course this was my recommendation :) Thanks. keep up the great work!

For anybody wondering what jujube is, it's also known as the red, Korean, Chinese, or Indian date. She uses dried ones here, so other dates may work as well, but it won't be the truly authentic dish.

I just made this tonight for dessert after having jajang myeon for dinner. only tip I have is if you only want your yaksik to be slightly salty only use 1 tbsp soy sauce. that's how much I used and it came out perfect. another thing: I used cranberries, raisins and walnuts and it came out delicious! Even my boyfriend who is kinda super traditional american boy, tried jajangmyeon and yaksik. he loved both. thanks maangchi

I bought a jujube tree 2 years ago, This Sept I as they started to dry and still mostly green, I used them as apples in an apple pie since they have a mild apple flavor. It turned out good, but next time I will have to add more flavoring as jujubes are not quite as strong tasting as apples. The rest are dried and stored in a paper bag in my garage. So I'm ready to try this recipe. Oh man you would not believe the amount of jujubes that came off the tree this year, this tree grows about 5 ft a year.

I’m not sure it’s that healthy with so much sugar but I still love it!

This looks wonderful. So tasty looking. Maangchi, it looked like after the last steaming after you added all the nuts and fruit, sugar and honey that a lot of brown sugar/honey sauce drained out in the steaming.... the cloth got brown. Is there anyway to prevent that??

Indonesia has a same food with this dish. It called "wajik" from Javanese. But the different is we're not add fruit and peanut. We just add palm sugar. Sticky, sweet, and chewy

Hello, Maangchi: Is it ok to use parchment paper instead of the saran wrap in the baking tray? The recipe is a keeper! It is so yummy-licious.
