"I was in a dark place" *It might've been dark, but black people had nothing to do with it*
@leila1254 жыл бұрын
Everyone goes to ‘dark places’. We all have our problems, we all go through bad times, we allllll have difficult periods. So how is that still used as an excuse? ‘I have struggled, so I decided to make other people struggle’ like shut up. I, like everyone else, has gone through difficult periods, but I still haven’t been racist, homophobic, or hurtful to people that have done nothing wrong. Chileeeeee

ShEs_SpOoKy maybe because we aren’t the same person ? wtf lmao

Szlendak doesn’t give anyone the excuse to be racist though? Like yeah sure thing everyone reacts differently to hurtful situations, but that doesn’t excuse anyone of that behaviour. In no circumstances should anyone be racist. My point is, if you’re hurting then okay, but there’s better ways of dealing with that besides been racist

People react differently in dark places. I’m not defending anyone and their actions, but I don’t know if what you’re saying really works. Racism is such a deeply rooted and complicated system that understanding people that have done/do racist things are just as complicated. Even so, they should all be held accountable. And while saying that you were in a “dark place” isn’t always a valid excuse and doesn’t imply that all people in dark places do racist things, it still gives some context... Probably could lead into the whole Nurture vs Nature dilemma.

I'd hope maybe someone had something move their heart, but if it has they are good at hiding that. Mr Mr Mr Mr I grew up in a place where racism was the norm. The Jewish kids hated the black kids and vice versa. We were actively told by our parents and grandparents to hate each other. The N-word was thrown around daily. While it doesn’t excuse the behavior, try to understand that not everyone was allowed to learn the same things as you. It took me a long time to understand that I was wrong for how I thought. What matters is that people do learn, even if they learn later than others.

@@CH-jj8wk see, it goes back to how they were raised. Like Nazis, the kids were raised that making fun of Jews was okay. It could also go back to just misinformation, someone could just think it's a word to call your friends and not know what the actual word is, like the word f*ck if they're a child. It really depends on the situation and person I guess. Everyone's different but as long as we realize our mistakes and try to help and inform and better ourselves then I think things will get better.

they dont seem to realize that being or not being racist has absolutely nothing to do with your state of mind. nobody can peer into your heart and see the good in you. action is what matters in this world not intention. like these guys are so attached to racism as something you are fundamentally, racism as an "identity" almost, that they fail to realize that racism is ultimately something you do; its an action you use against others. you can say that youre "not racist" all you want but that essentially means nothing when you are DOING racist things, when you are PRACTICING racism. racism requires action and so does being against racism. you cant really "be" not racist; you can TRY to not be racist, you can LEARN to not be racist. the moment you think you've reached "not racist" is the moment you get complacent. what you really need to do is to be actively participating in the fight against racism, and that includes your own.

And "I was in a dark place" 8-Mutters a lame "I'm sorry" and be done with it 9-Merch and Social media in the description 10-Keep doing the same problematic shit only more carefully so they wouldn't get caught. 11- "Mysterious" title with lowercase letters 12- Dramatic sigh before apology 13- As you can see I'm not in my usual recording spot 14- I'm not ____ I have sooo many _____ friends 15- That word just came out of my mouth and it was already too late when I realizd it 16- I'm so afraid you guys will think that I'm like that cause I'm not like that I swear (psssst they actually are) 17- Start sobbing after a big pause cause can't think of anything else to say 18- Moves on and acts like nothing happened and keeps posting right after because countless of people they hurt can be justified after a dry ass "apology" that is just a shit-show of trying to manipulate people into forgiving you 19- Oh and the apology just so happens to go over 10 minutes and filled with a bunch of ads that pop op every 10 seconds. Nothing suspicious going on there. This must be a KZbinr Apology Video!

Having grown up White around racism their apologies made me cringe a lot. I’m not perfect but I’ve made an active effort to learn and grow. The idea that racism is individual actions instead of a constant tilted system is what I had to outgrow when I hit that wall of “what I learned in childhood doesn’t seem to match the real world.” To see people in their 30s still being in that mindset of making it personal is downright painful. The idea of getting cancelled or having your past mistakes thrown back at you completely overrules the damage they did and it’s so so obvious they’re not sincere about it, because they genuinely don’t understand what the big deal is over some jokes. As long as they didn’t mean them, they think it’s not “real racism.” They judge other people’s actions and their own intent and that’s something I’m glad I unlearned. If they took an effort to listen instead of defend their good nature they’d be able to outgrow it too.

Here’s an idea: if you think filming an apology video for your racism is “hard” you might still be racist. It shouldn’t be hard to say you were wrong for being racist, that’s basic human decency. Just fyi. Explain, educate, and prove you’ll do better, don’t tell us how hard your life is because you were racist. Edit: I’m glad you guys appreciated this comment! “Acknowledge, apologize, understand, and help other people understand” and to this i say YES!! When i was at work, we were talking about what we’re gonna do for Halloween and whatnot. I asked one of my coworkers what she was doing since she hasn’t said anything and she said “i don’t celebrate Halloween” and all of us were like “wtfff it’s such a fun time” we explained how you don’t have to make it about anything but a day to just go out and have fun because she was saying it was about satan. We were telling her she was missing out on so much fun and that it doesn’t have to be about satan and whatever … and then i realized that we were lowkey ganging up on her. So i stopped everyone and said “look, she believes it’s about satan and we don’t. We can’t force her to believe in something she doesn’t, it’s pretty messed up” i apologized to her because we are sitting her telling her that her beliefs are wrong because we believe in something else. I still feel bad about it, just because it was about something so small like a “holiday” doesn’t mean it’s not wrong. Some of the people in that conversation still think I’m wrong but again .. i can’t make them see something they don’t want to. But the other understood what i was saying and also apologized to her ..
