Testing out Super Cruise - Is it better than BlueCruise in our Mach-E?

Super Cruise on my GMC Sierra is smoother than I experienced on FSD with my Tesla. It stays in the lane better and the lane changes are essentially what I would have chosen if I were in full control. FSD would either be too aggressive or too meek. I’m glad I got Super Cruise when I bought my truck.

I just got my Bolt EUV with Super Cruise. To turn off super cruise without the flashing, you need to put your foot on the gas and hands on the wheel. The red flashing is basically telling you that you need to take over. I have never tried blue cruise but I love super cruise. I really wish it worked on surface streets but to be honest, I get a little nervous (my fear, not a problem with the system) so I doubt I’d feel comfortable using it with oncoming traffic on a 2 lane road.

Great comparison. My Escalade has Super Cruise and it works really well. The lane change feature works great. Not a lot of usable roads around here but I've driven to Detroit and back (about 220 highway miles roundtrip) mostly without steering.

I've driven Super Cruise in a Lyriq, and BlueCruise in the GTP that I bought. More roads vs hands-on availability on rural roads? Kind of a toss up and I found both systems very easy to deal with. To me, the most important thing that stood out to me is that both systems are better than the Model Y Performance's FSD and Autopilot, which sucked in comparison to both BlueCruise and Super Cruise. The advantage of FSD is that they say it works on roads unmapped, but what they don't tell you is how badly it works in comparison, with running red lights, phantom braking, and other bugs.

I have a Cadillac Lyriq with Super Cruise and it works flawlessly, changes lanes automatically, and recently I had it drive for me on a very narrow two lane road. I was actually shocked when the Super Cruise Icon appeared on the two lane road. I also have a 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Premier with Super Cruise and I find that it drives in areas that my Ford Mustang Mach-E canceled on me. I recently replaced the Mustang Mach-E with a the Bolt EUV. Blue Cruise 1.0 was on my 2021 Mach-E Premium and I felt it was not as user friendly as Super Cruise. My Mach-E kept having issues with the rear wheel bearings just exploding and I could not drive the car at all. My dealer even got new wheel bearings by overnight from Ford, and the new ones did the same, until they finally found a wheel bearing assembly that worked. I had a lot of software glitches with the Mach-E, so much so, that Ford actually made a car payment for me because my car was in the shop for a couple of months. I loved the Mach-E it was beautiful, but I just couldn't trust it, so that's why I replaced it.

I love me Lyriq. I think it is the best car I have ever had and it’s my 12th Cadillac. Everyone that rides in my Lyriq is very impressed how luxurious and quiet it is. I was at the Post office a month ago and was returning to my Lyriq when an older gentleman came up to me and asked me if my Lyriq was a space ship. I got a chuckle out of that for sure. I assured him it was a completely terrestrial Cadillac!

Thats interesting, my 2023 Silverado changes lanes by itself or on command, i.e. if I hit the turn signal, it changes lanes for me

Those orange lane markings are experimental and only used in a couple areas in the country (very rare). I've heard about them, but that's the first time I've ever seen them deployed in the wild. The fact they are unique non-standard markings probably confuses the Mach-E, or Ford has programmed it to recognize the markings as a construction zone and disallow hands-free mode.

I'm going to see if I can get an answer from Ford. I really like the orange/white lane markings in the construction zone and it would make sense that ADAS would recognize it and change its behavior.

Well done. 10:20 excellent subtle point that Ford Blue Cruise will work on roads that are not pre-mapped *if* you just keep your hands on the wheel but let the Ford continue to do lane centering and adaptive cruise control (distance to ahead car).

Do you need to purchase an On-Star subscription for this to work? How much does that cost? Will it work at all with out purchasing the subscription? I hate to have to pay $30.

Not too fair comparison,, I had Mach e sold it when my lyriq came in so I had both,lyriq which is closer in price with Mach-e blue is good, but lyriq is unreal, holds any turn, passes on its own, no issue turning on or off

Can you do a speed test between the mach e and the bolt on level 2 charging? my mom has the mach e, and I just ordered the bolt. My mom just started the process to get the to get level 2 in the house, but I can't find a level 2 speed test video for either car.

Depends on which year and model Bolt. All Mach-E's come with a 48-amp onboard charger, the Bolts are either 30-amp or 48-amp depending on the configuration. Obviously 48 amp will charge faster than the 30 amp. You will need a 60-amp circuit breaker and a hardwired EVSE to get the full Level 2 charging speed.

We had to give the Bolt back. That would have been interesting. I'm also somewhat limited at home because my panel can't support more than a 40 amp circuit for charging.

Both use Mobileye processors. Probably similar hardware, but just implemented differently.

From watching the Tesla FSD feature and what it provides, the Super Cruise is too limited for where it can be used. I don't drive on 4 lane expressways and pretty sure that is all this would be for. i just do normal around town, roads, and highways. I would only use the "Auto Cruise" feature to be able to just take my feet of the pedals. Plus I am looking at this feature and will be using it in a Electric type car.

FSD costs $15,000 though. If you are looking for a system that works on more roads and doesn't cost $15,000, consider a Ford BlueCruise capable vehicle.

You're paying for OnStar, map updates, and also it costs money to map the highways. It makes more sense than a heated eats subscription.
