Linda Taylor The thing I love about Baker is how thankful he is for the role. I mean nobody was getting paid a whole lot back then, and a lot of other Doctors were a little incensed at being typecast, but to this day, whenever Baker recalls a story, his eyes light up fondly, and he is always thankful that he had the opportunity to play the character, and make so many children happy. He never gets upset when someone stops him and says "Hey, you're Doctor Who!" That's a real testament.
@colinmcphan9 жыл бұрын
+MaestroDraven Well said. Thats why I love hearing Tom talk about his time in Doctor Who so much. Like you said his eyes light up like a little kid when he talks about his time in Doctor Who. I think the kids picked up on Tom's childlike joy in that role and the adults appreciated his wit and charm. Of course the women didn't mind his smile or curls one bit. Whats amazing to me is that Tom has gotten recognition for roles he has done before and since Doctor Who, and rightly so, but he himself seems to be his harshest critic sometimes. He is a very good actor with a wicked sense of humor. Tom doas know how to appreciate a once in a lifetime character like Doctor Who though and I am glad some fans out there realize how special he was to the show and can still appreciate his magical portrayal. God bless.

Tom Baker had the longest period of being in Doctor Who. 7 years. He was believed to be the #1 actor in the show. At the end of his final episode Metropolis, when they showed the flashbacks of the Doctor's TARDIS companions and his enemies, that was considered to be a signature, or a sign language of the end of the Tom Baker era. But sadly, he never returned as a guest star in the show. But he was the most attractive actor to play the Doctor.
@cyburgin8 жыл бұрын
I think you've got your facts crossed a little. His last story was Logopolis and he did guest star in Day of the Doctor, albeit in a rather ambiguous role. Also, most attractive actor? Well, whatever floats your boat, but I think that honour might end up going to Peter Davison, Paul McGann or David Tennant.
@ryanlepore30588 жыл бұрын
No, what I meant was his acting and characteristic role of playing the Doctor was most attractive of his talent to fans. That's probably why he was on the show the longest. He had some minor comedy talent in the show too. Peter Davidson on the other hand was only in about in 20 stories. He didn't seem to be best as the Doctor. He reminded me more of actor John Ritter and Joel Higgins from Silver Spoons. To me, I could picture him looking like an American. But I don't think he seemed to look good as playing Doctor as well. I also though Jon Perwee and Patrick Troughton were good playing the Doctors. Sylvester McCoy was pretty good too. Collin Baker on the other hand didn't seem to be as much of playing a good Doctor as well. "A little, bad not as much." But Paul McGann was pretty good. And David Tennant wasn't bad either.

+Gabriela Piechowicz I don't think he was saying Colin Baker was a bad actor at all. I don't dislike Colin either and I know some of his story's weren't the greatest do to bad scripts. Like the other poster I also don't think Colin fit the role as well as Tom did. Tom and Colin are both good actors but Tom just seemed to have an effortless command and believability from day one that everybody took notice of. As far as audio adventures Tom and Colin have both had some really great ones.
@colinmcphan8 жыл бұрын
+Cyburgin Why sound so obnoxious and like only you know what's attractive and not when it comes to guys. Tom was a very attractive Doctor and the interest shown to him by the female viewers is well documented. There are videos on the internet that show and talk about it. The other three actors you talked about are attractive as well but why be so nasty sounding towards Tom or the female fans that did and do find his Doctor attractive? My roommate saw a picture of Tom's Doctor and McGanns Doctor side by side and she thought Tom was cuter. I guess what I'm trying to say is all four have there female fans so why think anybody is nuts for liking any of them or there looks. If you don't like Tom or his 4th Doctor that's your right and your entitled to your opinion. But then why watch his videos. Not trying to say this in a rude manner so I apologize if it came off that way. God bless.😀

Hinchecliffe brought in a more gothic horror atmosphere into the show. Something which I think made Tom's era the definitive Doctor Who for most fans.

dear Mr. Baker: I know its easy to think "pearls before swine", but please believe your performance compelled all subsequent media to be brighter, more articulate, entertaining, and imaginative.

Doctor Who when it was at it's best. Low budget SFX were overruled by highly well written scripts. Today's Dr Who seems to be the reverse.

Agui007 it’s the modern media of today.. too much money on effects and no time on fun or good stories.. and too much political or moral high ground.. in fact I never seen Dr Who but I think we need him more then ever ..

@@LukasOfTheLight Doctor Who was at its peak in the 1970s. And the last two seasons were absolute trash thanks to a head writer who is far too up his own arse.
@GermanLeftist4 жыл бұрын
@@LukasOfTheLight What about the statement is boomer shite? That the 70s were arguably the best decade for Doctor Who - at least on TV? Or that Chibnall sucks as a showrunner and hence his two series were rubbish?
@GermanLeftist4 жыл бұрын
@@LukasOfTheLight Seriously? Any actual reason for this?
@GermanLeftist4 жыл бұрын
@@LukasOfTheLight One question: If you were to listen to a 60s record, let's say a Beatles album, that is not remastered, and then listen to an album released this year or so, would you also automatically say that the newer one is better because it got the better production value? Since that appears to be your argument here. Yes, the production value of Classic Who often was not the best, especially in the 1960s. What you should keep in mind though is that none of these episodes, no tv series at the time actually, was made for an audience with an HD television upon which you can spot all the shortcomings of the sets, costumes and effects. Back then most people didn't even have a television that allowed them to view the programming in colour. Basically, comparing the production value of a modern tv production to one of the 1960s on an equal footing is like comparing apples to oranges. Sure, both a fruits but that's where the similarities end. I also want to make clear that actors forgetting the lines was not a common occurrence in Classic Who. It practically never happened despite a few instances in the very early years when they did not have the time or money to do a second take. The shows, not just Doctor Who, the BBC produced at the time were practically taped live. The sole actor who constantly messed up his lines was Hartnell, and in the beginning that was even done on purpose as a character quirk for the Doctor, but in the end he got too sick, really forgot too many lines and had to be replaced. Hence we now have regeneration as a concept. That brings me to another point: Doctor Who was at the time ground breaking. Complaining that a lot of these concepts are now old and tired is like saying that Lord of the Rings is full of tired clichés because you can find most of them in other fantasy literature, even YA one like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. But they became clichés because of Lord of the Rings. Just as many scifi tropes we know to today come from 60s and 70s scifi shows like Doctor Who or Star Trek TOS. The one thing I'd agree upon is that a lot of the serials in the 60s dragged, and yes there were also some in the 70s and 80s that could have done with an episode less sometimes, but for the most part it was a problem of the 60s. That was due to how long the seasons were. One season usually consisted of six serials but over 40 episodes. Compare that to the 70s when a season would still consist of five or six serials but only 26 episodes. The stories had to be stretched out. In many cases this did not help at all, in others did not really make a difference, and in two cases - the longest of the bunch - people generally agree that it created epic master pieces with The Daleks' Master Plan and The War Games. But again, this was due to how television was made back in the day. If you put style over substance, of course New Who wins. But then you'd also have to say that Avengers: Endgame is a better film than The Godfather or, to use a more recent example, There Will Be Blood. Don't get me wrong, I love Avengers: Endgame, but it's not a great film because of all the spectacle going on. I don't want to shit on New Who either. It gave us some great stories and characters. The Eleventh Doctor is amazing, he's my favourite Doctor bar the Fourth. Martha, Amy, Rory, and Clara are some of my favourite companions. And episodes like Blink or Heaven Sent are amazing, and show what the show is capable of. But to act as if something as the very first episode of An Unearthly Child or serials of the likes of City of Death, Ghost Light, or Gensis of the Daleks could not compete with anything in New Who is ridiculous. If you want to accuse others of being narrow-minded boomers, don't act like one yourself by being so narrow-minded that you simply dismiss not just 26 seasons of Doctor Who but essentially a whole lot classical television because it doesn't stand up to the near Hollywood-blockbuster production standards set by a lot of tv shows of today.
