I forget which Gospel account it was in, but Jesus told the disciples that He recruited Judas knowing he was an agent of Satan. In John's account, we are told that Judas used to steal money from the treasury that he was assigned to take care of. Judas' pre-existing character flaws and his greed made it easier for Satan to get to him.
