Which is why I think climbing might be the best way to grow your muscles.. I've only gone to the gym and I wouldn't last an hour climbing. I think you get so versitile in your movement and your muscles can do so much more than if you'd only lift weights.. I'll have to give this stuff a try!
@Shinjiwwl4 жыл бұрын

@virginiakrueger47804 жыл бұрын
From observation rather than experience I think size and build makes a huge difference as well. Like Juju is crazy strong , but bulky so he has more to lift and a definite low center of gravity. Climbing needs really strong abs as well as limberness and hand, finger, arm, and shoulder strength. (yeah, I am way too analytical). Climbing uses all your muscle groups at the same time. I think you really see the core or ab strength going into effect in climbing is when you see Magnus practically hanging like a bat yet his stomach is still close to the wall. I'm afraid of heights so I will never test this theory, but the whole process fascinates me.

I'm 6'3", 195lbs and a former gymnast and I don't think I'd be able to do most of those climbs at age 36. I've only tried gym bouldering once but I was surprised by how difficult it is. Size is a liability up on the wall and seeing this huge dude doing so well at age 44 is impressive.
@MrCmon1132 жыл бұрын
It's a huge advantage 99% of the time. Only in very, very peculiar circumstances is size a disadvantage in climbing (if it helps to be wedged in a narrow space between hands and legs).
@jkraemo2 жыл бұрын
@@MrCmon113 yeah for beginner level height can help a lot but it evens out as you progress and I think at some point even 1,75-1,82m / 5’10”-6’1” becomes the optimal range. I think Ondra once said that 1,75 would be perfect IIRC

I go to the gym 4x a week and the fact that I cann do pull ups is a major advantage. When I couldn't climb the propper way I finished the routes with arms only but that way you don't learn how to climb properly. It's funny though that I'm 185cm tall and 80 kgs but I'm the 'fattest guy' in the climbing room while I'm one of the skinniest in the gym.

@m.sierra52583 жыл бұрын
Pretty impressive how fast he caught the technique, I've climed with a number of beginners already and usually they rarely pick up any technique at their first time. He understood that he needs to use his feet primarily, the barn door effect, staying close to the wall, that he can touch the wall with his feet (on places without pieces) ... Impressed.
