Hey legends, just wanna clarify something important… This video is NOT trying to say that Tinder as a whole is ‘evil’ or that you should boycott/delete the app. In fact, even though its been a while since I used it, when I did it was a very good experience. However… it’s certainly interesting that one company owns so many of the biggest dating apps/sites. And definitely some of Tinder’s monetization tricks are pretty shady/manipulative. Plus some of the behind the scenes drama at Tinder is wild. Overall, I just found this a really interesting story, and hadn’t seen Tinder’s story covered fully before. In short: the tinder story is pretty crazy and I think you’ll enjoy it. But that definitely doesn’t mean you should never use it if you want to. Just be aware of what their business model actually is. Thanks to IPVanish for sponsoring. I legit always use a vpn online, and highly recommend you do the same. You didn’t even mention how Tinder unmatches people when they are getting too close, but haven’t exchanged numbers once. It happened to me once. They didn’t even unmatch it from her end so it looked like I just ghosted her. I only know this because I suspected something was up, tracked her down on Facebook, and asked her. A little creepy I know, but still. She even showed me screenshots of our message history taken after Tinder had unmatched us on their end. So yeah, Tinder will actually unmatch people who haven’t exchanged contact info in order to keep them on the app. It’s super messed up.

Used Tinder from about 2015-2017 mainly to meet new people, not really for dates or hook ups. It used to be a lot of fun, unlimited swipes, a large amount of people and a large amount of matches. It seemed like overnight everything stopped. I would get matches but it went from about 20 a day to about 20 a month. And like the video said, I was pumped with tinder gold ads. I’m cheap but I can see why people, especially men, would try it out and get stuck in the cycle. 4 years later, I’m off tinder and married to a woman I met the old fashioned way... A shit talking Facebook group.

The likes stop because after a few days your profile stops being on top, they literally try to make you pay, and if you don't, your experience ends there. But if you create a brand new account a few months later, you'll get a ton of likes again, so yeah, it's a waste of time, although i met some cool girls there.

The best time to use an app does tend to be in the beginning when it's running on investor money and more focused on amassing users than making a profit. The secret is not to get hooked on the free samples and to be prepared to leave once the terms of the arrangement have been altered as they usually just keep getting worse over time.

In the first months i got some matches and met like 3 or 4 people. It was like 2016 and most woman i matched with, wanted to write at least 2 weeks before meeting. Usually some personal attraction was build within those 2 weeks and when meeting first time, we both quickly developed feelings for each other, only to realize soon after that we kinda developed feelings for the Tinder-character, instead for the real person. We quickly realized that we're not made for each other and went on. There is a big gap between a humans real charakter and its digital character. Soon after and shortly before Covid started i noticed getting less and less matches, up to the point in which i would gain literally zero likes and zero matches. I noticed that most of the people, who were shown to me, didnt fit my preferences. Today its nearly impossible for me to find some woman, who seems nice to me and at the same time im not getting any likes. This experience is almost exactly as described in your video. I liked the idea of dating apps, since i'm shy when I wanna start a conversation with people, who i want to have more then friendship. Now i think that Tinder and other dating apps are actually a downgrade for confidence and general dating experience.

I think Tinder (and its copycats) play a significant role in the increase of loneliness and falling birthrates. It has ruined dating for any unattractive man and massively inflates the self-worth of any (semi-attractive) woman, leading to a massive disparity between the self-value of each gender. I know a dozen couples who'd never have married (or even dated) each other if they'd used dating apps. I think most people would be happier if these dating apps didn't exist.

There were just too many f-boys that just wanted ONS. And then I got played by someone who seemed super nice and it turns out he only wanted to cheat on his GF with me. That's when I left the platform and never looked back. I wouldn't say it has ever boosted my ego, quite the opposite. And I wouldn't put everything on looks. Basically most "average" women end up batting outside of their league with men who have enough options to not want to settle down with them in particular. (it's in every man's biology to be a "fuck boy", the only reason someone isn't is simply because it's not easily available to them). For the "average" men in turn the app is a dry wasteland with very few matches and they have to partake the pay2win mechanics to get anything out of it. So basically very few end users ultimately end up winning in this. The worst thing is that this poopoo has ended up seeping into the real world as well, as people burnt by the app (= basically a whole generation of people) have brought their newfound hangups and toxic ghosting culture with them. Dating is definitely not in a good place right now and these apps and other social media messing with people's brains are mostly to blame

It does not boost the self-worth of any gender. For a "semi-attractive" woman it does not help if a bunch of guys she is not interested in, find her appealing. She won't even notice them probably. I did actually manage to find a partner online, but online dating is very hard -- for both genders, but for very different reasons. This video outlines the straight man's prospective, which is a lot of having to pay for meager interactions and eventual self image issues. As a straight woman, I would get so barraged with messages I couldn't keep up and it became so stressful I would have to turn off my profile for most of the year. And I'm not even close to a 10 attractive wise. Hearing that it's 9:1 men to women makes a lot of sense.

I suspect the solution to this will be to vet the photos uploaded with AI to score them on their attractiveness before they even join. Tinder has a vested interest to pander to what women want and if it's to remove messages from unattractive men, they'll do it.

Really great vid! A friend of mine “discovered” how the tinder algorithm worked and that made us buy the platinum subscription. It was just sad to see how many more matches you get. If you’re a free user, you are purposely put below the list of all accounts. Since the ratio of men compared to women is high, you can imagine that some girls won’t see your account at all while they could possibly like you if they only could see your profile. The economics of tinder is a sad reality, but it helped me meet my girlfriend in Covid times. Despite the pay to win scheme, there’s probably also a good side of tinder.

I am personally a strong believer that in-person interaction is the most genuine and meaningful way of starting a relationship with someone. I've also tried online dating once before through a different source and my first experience was so bad, my friends know it is why I will never try online dating again. Even today, despite the fact that my roommates all have tinder on their phones and have tried to encourage me to give it a try too, I still refuse to download tinder, or any dating app for that matter.

While I agree with the dark sides that are exposed in this video, I think the biggest issue with online dating is how it can overwhelm users with matches. Or it gives the users the feeling that there is someone better that you will match with soon. So you ended up having matches that do not talk to you or are not even interested in meeting in real life. And then people start judging each other for the only things that dating apps can show: looks and texts. We hardly spend time getting to know people anymore. We make a judgement of someone within 5 min or even 5 seconds. And that is just sad. I do message every match I get and try to meet them in real life. And unfortuately I also judge others based on their looks, but I try to get to know all my matches the best that I can.

This is something that's common with video games with microtransactions - commonly referred to as "make the problem and sell the solution". Essentially, the Tinder devs could easily make a platform without many of the problems of things like not having enough swipes, not getting noticed enough, that sort of jazz - but by limiting those things - making the problem - they can then turn a profit by selling the solution to the problem they created. As an example in a video game, they might limit your inventory space (even though it'd be more than easy enough for them to give you a huge amount of space), and then sell you the option to get more inventory space.

As an older millennial, this video really concerns me. My message to the young men reading this. Don't be a Pawn in someone else's chess game (Tinder for example). Make people play by your rules and your game. Here's How: 1) Get good at a skill/craft that is not video games (Good career, Martial arts, Programming, Ballroom dancing, Cooking etc) - YOU become the "Man in Demand" 2) Talk to the girl that finds your craft interesting (attraction is based on something more than looks alone) 3) You arrange a date by asking her out verbally and in person (More powerful and gives her the butterflies) 4) Plan out your date and take it from there (Show preparation and leadership) I'm a happily married man. I am also a mid manager at a Fortune 50 company, Karate black belt, BJJ practitioner, Latin and ballroom dance instructor. Focus on building skills that make you marketable because as this tinder story shows, no-one will help a man find success. In fact, they take advantage of a man's desperation. Good luck

I'm not sure you are right about the attractive score thing exactly....when I did use the app, it felt like I would get several unattractive people before someone at least a 6 score would show up, just enough for me to swipe them. I also noticed that the moment I ran out of swipes, suddenly the very next one would be a 9 or 10 score with a perfect profile that looked exactly like someone I would want to marry. I think THIS is how they get you. I only used the app for like 4 months so it could just be a coincidence, but it sucked so bad I ended up deleting all of my dating apps....horrible when you only get 3 matches in 4 months and 2 of them ignore you, 1 of them ends up ghosting you after a week. a friend of mine has found a way to work the system in his favor to some extent. whenever someone is brand new to tinder, the algorithm doesn't know what the desirability score is, so it'll throw everything at you and throw your profile everywhere. so what he does when he stops getting matches, he resets. deletes his profile, buys a cheap, temporary new phone card and makes a new tinder account using that phone number. to the app, that's a brand new user, so data gathering starts from scratch. it's like starting ng+, but you already know some of the tricks. of course this only works for a while and you need to restart a new game over and over again, which is annoying and time consuming.

The conversations were fun, and you were thinking how easy this was." Lol, yeeeeah....no. I joined, and HEARD how great and easy it was, then proceeded to spend weeks and months on it with very, very few matches and even fewer replies, even at the very beginning. I averaged one match a week at best, and one reply every 6 weeks. And I was on it an average of an hour a day. I paid for Tinder plus or gold or whatever and it bumped me up to maybe 2 matches a week and 1 reply a month, if I was lucky.
