I get that you don't want favouritism but jeans are acceptable attire in many professional offices, and ultimately chess (especially blitz) is a sport, players need to be comfortable. Also, I've always thought this rule just added to the elitism of chess. If you're not financially well off you're already struggling to afford to go to tournaments, it's not fair to make people dress a certain way too. Let's also add that a suit is western clothing. As we want to grow the sport globally, surely we want to be inclusive of alternative attire, the biggest growing markets for chess are India and China, players should be allowed to dress in their own country's attire if that's what they want to do.

u never heard about agassi, mcenroe , connors - dude you are such a snowflake. going against the conventions is not being a brat, if those rules are silly. you are just being a coward by condoning stupid rules, that make zero sense. chess has never been about wearing business suits. it is a game for thinkers, not a fashion show. FIDE is money greedy and makes 75% of their income from top level chess tournaments. well - the players can easily start their own association and leave this bunch of greedy old grumpy men behind to care about the olympiad and take top level chess in their own hands and split that money instead of paying the FIDE president 100k in travel fees a year plus his salary. that is all paid for by the top chess players from whom many do not get any money from FIDE - especially the ones below the top 100. FIDE acts like they care, but in reality they are very entitled. also the election process is not democratic at all. as a chess club member i never got to vote on the representative for FIDE in my country for example. let the top players vote their own council to organize top level chess - it can only get better.
