If you're looking to shake up normal battle reports you could also look at some of the rules adopted from the Dawn of War games. I THINK they were written by Zorpazorp but I could be wrong.

Apocalypse games usually have the best terrain to fight over. One thing you could do, is have layered terrain. So you could raise up the deployment zones then dip down onto the table into a no man's land. Or vice versa. Raise up the middle adding bunkers and trenches. Then add some towers or walls at the deployment zones.

I was enjoying the battlerep, had to go down to the comments. Dude people are literally willing to pay to watch you and Simon have fun and make Guard Battle Reports. 1:13:40 it was so jarring to hear the literal speaking in 4th person. Talking to an imaginary chat... Its eerie, like just imagine being in a room with someone playing a game and they are talking to "Chat". Man ik the batreps "take a while to film" but i would MUCH perfer (hell even pay for at this point) to enjoy two bat reps per week. Even if one wasnt 40k, you could dedicate one to the Guard Batrep fans, and mix it up with the other with old world, Bolt action etc. Theres so much Guard we havent seen yet. Cant wait for your Bridgehead battlerep. Cheers Mordian and Simon.

too right man, theres never enough fluff. I've always thought a (3-part?) small campaign would be great involving a bit of Kill team (small operations), 500 pt skirmishes and large 2000 point battles - each victory would give you some small advantage on the next battle or something...

On top of this, would you also consider doing a crusade, in the new year and just slowly mixing it in over the year with your other reports? I'd quite like to see how they're done and still see these reports and the odd competitive style when meta or rules changes are big and need showcasing

My friend's group has been concoction and absurd campaign and narrative for our games for about 8 months now. Even playing straight L shape ruins and standard missions, the narrative has made the game 100x more fun. All of this is to say, glad you are shaking it up with the battle reports!

Nice narrative report. Only suggestion is RE: the objective markers, some of them were large (ie: landing pad) and that is totally fine, but make the whole pad the objective (it looks 7.5" already) there is no way being within 3" of the edge of the landing pad should have counted when its footprint is so huge, and the double holding was a bit cheesy so I'm glad you let it go. Just caveat it at the start of the game what the objective footprint is, seeing as it was a last minute ditch to make it onto it.

The only way I love to play 40k is a narrative drive , play the game hard but not at the expense of fun. It’s a fine line to walk down for sure. I think 40k is perfect like that however. Competitive and 40k is a lot like the square peg in round hole. I never fully understood it as the lists felt dumb and boring for the most part in competitive. Just my opinion of course. Let people be competitive but it should have always stayed focused on casual competition with a narrative drive.

I definitely enjoyed this, and it's made me realise I need a few more narrative relaxed chill time in my own games. I think to have a good mix on the channel can't be bad, so some games for fun, some tournament play style at times, to maybe showcase new meta or rules. All good Mr Mordian Esquire. More salt in salty Si's wounds is never a bad thing either lol!! You both come across really chilled in this too, which is always good. 🫡🫡🫡
