Make your own Sublimation tumbler blank!!!!!!!

this is a little DIY showing how you can use powdercoat as a base to successfully sublimate any stainless steel tumbler, cup, mug etc.
This process is time consuming, but it is fun.
I am not a professional at powdercoating, nor sublimation, and I'm sure there may be easier and faster ways, however this is just another option.

An old oven designated for work(Do Not Use An Oven To Powdercoat or Sublimate, If You Plan To Use

Hey! Thanks for the video!! I actually looked at prismatic powders amazon listing. Under customer questions someone asked about using the product for sublimation. They replied that their customer base have a preference when using for sublimation application which was their gloss white powder. Im going to buy some and try it out for myself. Wish me luck!

Awesome! I wish you luck. Powder coating is timely, but it is fun to do. Their illusion color line is amazing! My favorite is Illusion Purple. I used it to powder coat parts for my truck

if not able to do a video would appreciate some instruction on adding the clear vision coat. (ie. do you apply right after taking out of the oven from first curing? Or wait until cup is cooled down and re powder coat? Is the oven time the same time/temp the same as the first coat? My experience today was, I did the first coat and the sublimation did not come out very bright. Does the clear vision help with that? (I sublimated at 5/6/7/8 minutes (same design, different part of the cup) and it was getting brighter but no where near what your is.

Loved watching your powder coating video! I recently scratched a finished tumbler that I was making for a friend and I accidently scratched it with the tongs as I pulled it out of the oven, do you know of any tricks to do just touch ups to the powder coating? Thanks for you help.

After you did the base powder did you do anything else ? You said something about the prismatic clear topcoat? When and how do you do it?

WOW, how did you manage to peel the tape with no heat gloves after baking at 400 for 20 minutes then pick the cup up with your bare hands and carry it to the sink ? Washing it immediately would that not wash off the powder?

Have you done a plain clear coat and sublimated? I just tried and the paper got stuck and it left a cloudy look where the paper was. It will not come off. Any tips would be awesome. Thank you!

Top coat goes on just as soon as the base coat finished the curing process. I will hopefully update with more videos soon. I just work 2 jobs and haven’t had time to do any crafting

spray paint won't hold up to the 400 degree temperature needed for the Powdercoat to cure. Maybe a high temp spray paint but even then, I'm not sure how well the clear coat would adhere to the paint.

Unfortunately no. Reason being is the powder needs to remain in touched until the baking process is finished. Any spot spot touched will remove the powder and leave you with a bare spot.

Yes. I have tried this method both with and without the clear coat and the clear coated cup makes for a far better transfer.

Well, you buy the powder by the pound. One pound could probably make about 50 cups give or take. Also depends on how heavy you apply it

Yes it’s a base coat which allows the sublimation to transfer.

For awhile the 32oz was pretty popular for my Harley Tumblers. But for actual sublimation the 20oz straight wall are most common

You can. In my case, I just sand blast the cup back to the bare stainless steel and start over. It also depends on whether the cup has been epoxied.

Yes, I apply the white base coat, then apply the clear. After the clear is cured, the cup is ready for sublimation.

You do not have to epoxy, however it is highly recommended because it seals the cup and keeps the design from scratches etc.

No, sublimation is permanent and dishwasher and microwave safe, epoxy is not.

You should never use the same stove that you cook with for tumblers. Those chemicals get into your oven. People may not read the description box.
