Making A "Corset" Color-Blocked Dress ✨

Look mam, no bones! Today I'm using horizontal style lines to create an almost mid-bust corset shaped section around the middle of a (sparkling brocade) dress. Two brocades together just wasn't enough shine though, so I added some pearl vinyl creepy crawlies, and thousands of sequins into the mix as well of course.
The pearl HTV I used: www.heattransferwarehouse.com...
Moonshine sequins: www.ccartwright.com/sunshop/i...
Music and Sound Effects from Epidemic Sound.
Thank you Patrons!
Need to make a block pattern? There are many options, and I talk about several in this playlist! : • Making a Bodice Block ...
Where I get my pattern drafting paper: atlaslevy.3dcartstores.com/Pa... (not sponsored)

But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

I really like this design! The dress is fabulous 👌 and I am grateful that you are frank about the things that you want to change the next time you make this. A design like this needs to be done again! Very feminine yet 💪 strong like "Mother" Hope Emerson on "Peter Gunn." The 🎶 🎵 was the icing on the cake! Thank you very much!

I think the different weights of drapes you ended up with in the fabrics adds to the corset look you get from this effect. I know it may not have been exactly as you wanted but I think it turned out stunning.

Love this dress, the middle part treatment gave me if Gustav Klimt went goth type of background painting decor ahaha, yeah my references are crazy like that. The way you continued the graphic lines into the rest of the dress with sequins is exquisite. My town has a very beautiful authentic art deco venue with live jazz, this dress is perfect to go there.

Wow! I didn't think that you could ever top your last go-around, but I think you have actually managed to accomplish. that! I actually had to "zoom in" on the bodice and back because I couldn't figure out if you had appliqued another piece of fabric to create that little asymmetrical design element. And then I figured it out that it was sequins! How very clever! Man, I do love some glitter and shine! I always joke that in a former life I was either a gypsy or a magpie! Once again, you have created a masterpiece!

Funny coincidence, just the other day the KZbin algorithm made me watch ;) a video about a Chanel bolero and pants evening suit from the ’30s. IIRC it’s in the VA museum and the curator showed it in and out in all the minute couture details. It’s completely covered in black sequins and I thought “who would have the patience to sew all those sequins on a garment nowadays?” 😅 Btw, the horizontal lines are a great design idea. It could be easily adapted into a cottagecore style dress. 🤪😁

I agree about the invisible zips, they just don’t hold up to the same standards as a normal zip. They are prone to pulling open on a nice fitted outfit like this dress. I find that a normal zip if placed correctly can be hidden under the fabric with a better result than an invisible zip. My own Mom taught me how to hide a zip into any garment without compromising on the finished look of the garment. The dress looks stunning and I love the corset effect you achieved with the use of different types of fabrics. Loved the bugs minus the spider that is😹😹 I love how that even though they are bugs they actually look like they are meant to be there. You have a very good eye for combining nature within your outfits. It’s a joy watching you create such stunning outfits. Like you I found I hated remaking the same thing over and over again I love the freedom that allows me to create something different along the same lines.
@TheClosetHistorian
@TheClosetHistorian 2 ай бұрын
Thank you! The only thing worse than having to put in the zipper is the idea of seam ripping /out/ a zipper, oof no thanks to broken zips! 😂

The feel of the different weights might be a little off but the look, at least in what we see in the video, is spot on. A corset would be stiffer than a more clingy, softer underlayer, and that is subtly conveyed and part of the seductive charm of this dress. I love the line of the corset top, just above the apex. And the disappearance of the darts into the style lines is so slick & makes this look like it was sprayed on. Gorgeous.

It looks kind of like apocalypse fashion - the middle section brocade looks like those big city grids as seen from above with all those bugs representing how dirty and broken down it is. Love love love❤ this dress, especially the sequined and " bugged " midsection 😊. The sleeves, well I would recommend draping. But you're not really into that I know, I know.. But for you other people out there: impressive, advanced and exaggerated sleeves is the number one area for draping, because it's too difficult getting it just right on paper. Anyway I'm really looking forward to part two here!

Beautiful dress. The look of the sequins is worth the work. If you made a wool opera length glove without fingers (just a hole for the thumb and a hole for the palm) you could give your arm a little protection from the heat and the wool would absorb some the water.
