Nice marking knife. Those blades hold an edge decently too. I ground one of my old stock grizzly jointer blades and made a really thin parting tool. The handle makes mine look like a prison shank though!! Lol

Keeping the steel cool is vital when re-using hardened steel like this. It looked like the tip discolored a bit when you were grinding, and that typically means you've lowered the hardness. Since you are marking on wood, it shouldn't be an issue for a long time though. Finished product looks great!

Yah, good idea with the water pan. Just didn't want someone to start hogging out steel and then wonder why it wouldn't keep an edge.

I made two marking knives a year or so ago using a similar process so I can appreciate the skill it took to freehand those bevels. They look perfect...how did you get them so even? And you didn't omit the honing. Really good job!

Great video Dema. I really like that you are repurposing your old blades. And I love that you are using that lathe mounted disc sander! It's the invention and discord that I like the most with these kinds of videos, and seeing you use tools that you made yourself is very exciting. Now, for what it's worth, if you'll permit me a few criticisms... 1. What's a joiner? Why not show where you got the blades from? Someone who watches the will not know. 2. Love seeing your homemade disc sander. I know I already said it, but it bears repeating. I also like the way you set up the angles with a marker line for grinding the blades to their desired shape. 3, I like your narration better than music. I would have preferred you narrate, or even live sounds, to the music. Maybe it's more work? Idk. Just a preference. My two cents. Leo up the great work.

Thank you, a jointer is a machine that makes an edge of a board flat, like a planer upside down. As for the narration, I am kinda Settling in my own video style and I like it when talk about the project in the beginning then show it. I guess the work to produce my videos I'm comfortable with and enjoy sharing. As for the music, I just feel there should be something there, when I watch my videos without music I just feel like something is missing. Thanks for the input :)
