This week I flew to Louisiane, crossing the state line into my 38th state, and making a terrible landing (or 3) in the process.

A few years ago a massive hurricane decimated this place. Even up to 30 miles away trees had been snapped in two and the bark was shredded off.

When I came to the US to study in 2004, McNeese State in Lake Charles was my first stop. So awesome you decided to make that your first point flying into in Louisiana. I flew out of the old terminal in LCH that winter. They got hit bad the next year by Hurricane Rita and got a new terminal.

Apparently Sky echo can be used over there , you just have to disable the non approved transmitter part , on the sky echo , simply by logging into it and clicking a box …..

Great video. One question. It looks like your plane has retractable gear. Why fly with the gear down all the time?

It doesn't retract. It's just not equipped with "Wheel pants" (or wheel fairings), so it looks more like the exposed gear that you'd see on a retractable.

Might be worth at some point converting fully over to a FAA license. You can't add any additional ratings until you do unless you do it through the CAA, the FAA 61.75 only recognises the ratings on your UK license. This also would be a pain in terms of currency since you'd need to do your currency checks under the CAA.

I did that rather than just rely on the CAA licence. Easy peasy and took both the commercial and IR tickets. With Noel's flying experience. he shouldn't have a problem.

I don't know if you grabbed a plane for keeps, vs renting, but if you can buy your own field and toss up a few extra hangars, costs come down. Your own field would help your landings as the plane would be better balanced ( airport kids ).

This airport is used as a rest stop for US Military flights as well as a training stop for NASA T-38 training flights.

Welcome to Texas. Not sure what possessed you. If you come out to KBAZ give me a shout out and we'll get a burger. About a 2 hour flight from you. A straight shot and you can avoid controlled air space for the most part. Keep the videos coming and safe flying.

Why the landing is fully extended after taking off? I thought gear should be up after reaching flying altitude as it helps with flying or is it left intentionally?

It was interesting to see Houston & The Woodlands from the air! I don't understand anything about flying a plane & I don't even know how you know where to go on the ground. I know everything is in code, but it's a good thing I never tried to become a pilot. Plus, I'm very short & probably can't see over the controls. Almost became a flight attendant in 1974. I'm old & I don't know how to use telegram!
