Hellooo! This video has been a big eye opener to film....we have had some of our favourite meals for ages in this video, just by using up what is in our freezer/cupboards! How are you finding the price increases? Are you trying to be more economical like we are? ♥

I’ve really noticed the price increase on a lot of items I usually buy. I’m trying to do the same and use up what we have in the fridge and freezer, but still going out to buy essentials. I’m loving these videos and once I’ve fixed my tripod, I might vlog something like this. 🥰 xxx

The stalk of the broccoli is actually supper delicious and the most nutritious part. You should eat that, or cut it, blanch it and pop it in the freezer for soup. I keep a “soup bag” in the freezer of random vegetable bits left over that we have not used and I cook it and blitz it all for soup when the bag is full.

I do hope this doesn’t sound smug or anything like that - but I’m loving doing this. I’ve saved hundreds since New Year by being more conscious of what we’re eating & using what we have rather than just buying more for the sake of it. I’m loving stocking up my store cupboard by using some of that extra money - I’ve even bought shelves and am keeping a little stockpile, ready for the next time the SHTF (stuff that will keep, like pasta and tinned tomatoes, corned beef and tinned potatoes, plus plenty of bottled flavourings to give food a bit of interest.) I don’t want to be like one of those US preppers who have bags of flour the size of a shed, but it’s really quite comforting to know that I could cover a week or so’s worth of meals if I needed to.
@Sopherina2 жыл бұрын
Not smug at all, in fact I find this inspirational. We have almost worked our way through all of the food we have had sitting in our cupboards/ffreezer etc and I am SO looking forward to re-stocking in a more mindful way. Having enough off the basics that we will never struggle if there were to be instances you mentioned. Love it!!

All homemade, but not enough for the 3 of us... but that's OK! Our tummies are full and we are saving food from being binned for being "in the freezer too long" 😄

I love using leftovers so really enjoying this series. Wait till Orin is a bit older though. I had planned to use some leftover mash from Sundays roast to do some fishcakes, until my 13 year old son ate a plate of leftover mash and brussel sprouts as an afterschool snack. I can't really complain at my son eating healthy snacks, but now got to fill a gap on my menu plan. At least all the food is eaten rather than wasted and I always have things in the freezer for such eventualities. :-)

It’s really satisfying to cobble a meal together with random stuff found in the freezer/fridge/cupboards. I’m currently going through my freezer to use up what I already have. The money I save on what I would have spent goes into my emergency savings fund. Your meals looked lovely Sophie, especially the creamy leeks with turkey and rice. I get more adventurous with leftovers. Tray bakes and soups are particularly good. xx

These videos are great! Ive seen Callie Thorpe make cheesey brocolli bites out of the brocolli stalk they look yummy. What i do before going shopping is do a Stock Take of EVERYTHING we have in the house, note it down and try to note as many meals we can make from whats already there. It then reduces our bill because usually I can make about 3/7 meals already :) x

Hi Sophie, Lawrence and baby Orin! We are trying to follow your lead and make stuff just from the freezer and have managed it (apart from fresh stuff, like salad and some veggies) however, we still managed to spend quite a bit more than we expected to? Have you tried the Richmond meat-free sausages, we have them quite a bit now and they are the closest we have ever tried to meat sausages (I suppose it's because they have made sausages for so many years now! Thank you for this you had some really good ideas for regular items lots of us probably have or something similar that we could use instead. I’m not loyal to one particular supermarket or shop and have found some are really putting up the prices and some are not having as many of the cheapest store brands of some items. I like the market for shopping as well and have found some things are very well priced there . They may be closer to the sell by date but still ok. Like biscuits or cakes etc but all good. Veg and fruit is ok mostly . Heron foods is very good price wise too especially there frozen stuff. Orin is a little charmer chatting away like he’s also commenting on the food too. Thanks again looking forward to seeing your next vlog. 🙂

Hi Sophie, I think this video is great but prices of food aren’t going to go down now so once you’ve used everything in your freezer and your batch cooking it’s going to be a big bill to replace all that. I just don’t really understand the point of this as it’s not a constant solution to keeping a family food bill down it’s just to save for a few weeks or a month. I love the idea to try and get everyone to do the same but it seems redundant. No hate xxxxx
@sophierobinson60412 жыл бұрын
I think she's just trying to make sure she's not wasting food because she was buying food with a fridge freezer already full, then things may need to be chucked away etc if use by date has passed xxx you can't do this sort of thing all the time but maybe once a month we could delay our grocery shop and eat what we have in the bottom of the freezer even if we just delay it by a few days ❤️
@12missmolly2 жыл бұрын
You’ve missed the point
@xkatie232 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree 100% I find it annoying that everything is costing more these days including food. We can all be better when it comes to waste then maybe just 1 bigger shop a month would help a lot of people out with spending x
@sophierobinson60412 жыл бұрын
@@xkatie23 yeh! Everything is going up in price 😬 Sophie's recipes in these videos can also help people make meals out of the random bits they have left! Think it's just to inspire us to double check what we have before we go shopping x
@frugalitystartsathome48892 жыл бұрын
Also, if you make a meal from stuff you already have rather than going out & buying a takeaway, then you’re saving the money you would have spent - and you can use that to replace more than what you’ve used, so it’s a revolving process. It also does keep your food bill down in that you’re not just piling the same things up, week after week, thus having no room to make the most of sale items or cheap deals, which are the stuff to stock up on when you get the chance. The idea, I think, is not just to save money on food and then go blow it on something else - otherwise, as you say, what’s the point?

One reason is that the price of fuel has gone up and everything needs to be transported to the shops, another is the war in Ukraine. Ukraine is a massive wheat producer for the world and production has obviously been halted now due to the bloody Russian.
