I became a minimalist from a v young age as I never wanted to have the hoarding tendencies my parent did. Unfortunately it’s gone from minimalism to compulsive decluttering and it doesn’t just involve the items I own but number of people I allow in my life, tasks I take on and even the amount of sentimental items I own. This account has really helped me to value what I own and not make it about the number of things I own. It’s important for me to keep things that are meaningful to me even if they aren’t always necessary. Although I wished I learned that earlier in life I’m glad to really learn that through this channel. Sorry for the long comment however I wish you safe travels to your new destination thank you for another great video☺️

Oh my gosh I was just talking about this with my mom last night, she had a similar thing in her childhood and now is all the way to the other extreme with how clean her home is. It sometimes felt more like a hotel than a home growing up because it was so clean - it didn't look "lived in." You've inspired me to share some of these videos with her too, thank you Ceilidh!

I started adapting a minimalist lifestyle very recently, learning minimalist lifestyle right here on you channel and a ton of other has really inspired me, and for the few months that I have started I have really see a change not only on my perspective to life and all the things around me but also a chance to get to know myself better. I come from a Latino background (from Dominican Republic) and for us having more means we are worthy or that we have more than other. Growing up with this mentality was very unhealthy and it drained my souls to the fullest. I am glad that I was able to get out of that mentality and that way of thinking and living. Now I feel happier I live in New York City but I bought land in the Dominican Republic a town area, where I can breath fresh air, rivers around the are, beach and I can live a peaceful life with less! As soon as I finish my house and save some money I am moving. (In DR you don’t need much to live good compare to the US) Thanks to all the KZbinr and people that really put their hearts into helping other achieve that free mind.

This is awesome!! So happy for you! Such a beautiful journey of being able to let go and receive what is new and in certain can and will be a beautiful transition for LIFE! I love seeing the simple joy in holding on to what gives you peace and joy, while making such a rich transition! …finding your own way to be able to make a new version of home wherever you are in the world and giving yourself time and space to let go in the future if and how you need to. 🙏🏾 Such a grand story of kindness, courage and patience with self. Your handmade succulent holder is beautiful and the two books that are the same yet not really 🥰 those special stories of your very own, adding to your joy and freedom to just be you - such sweetness! It’s like giving yourself a hug! Lol 🥰♥️♥️♥️ I’ve always loved how you teach that minimalism is not about some perfect numerical goal but about simplifying, and giving yourself the ability to live a life of value that’s right and soothing to your own soul! Thank you so much for always sharing little bits of who you are and your beautiful journey with us babe! Side note ! lol rando question 🙋🏽♀️ lol. What kind of mic do you use!?? I’m leaning into getting one soon and want to keep it minimal but effective! I always LOVE the gentleness of your audio, so I feel it may do the trick for me! Thank you again for all you do babe! God bless your joy, your freedom and your journey! Truly and completely, from the inside out! 🙏🏾 And remember, we are grateful for your sharing! It blesses so many. But be sure to take your time navigating this new path. Allow yourself and your hubby whatever time you need to be free and breathe. We aren’t going anywhere! ♥️ Change can be good for the soul! I’m sure you know. 🙏🏾 When we allow ourselves to open, slowly but surely, we receive much! Keep looking for the light just for you! If your schedule has to shift, we understand! Those who need your encouragement will be here for the long haul- if that’s what helps your heart soar!

oh gosh, I am possibly moving in 6 months and the thought of everything fitting in to 5 suitcases is overwhelming on so many levels but at the same time it will be helpful to start to declutter and finally get rid of the baggage that is so often attached to that consumerism escapism. The truth is I could probably live with very little. I probably wear the clothes that would fit in one suitcase now, so why did I buy all of these things? I can relate deeply to your questions and reasoning on this subject and you are lucky that you discovered it now and not much later in life. Your channel is helping me come to terms with all of this. I have been starting slowly for the last year to clear out and get rid of things I haven't used or worn. It is amazing how difficult it can be to let go. Some items I already knew I would eventually get rid of but there is always that question but what if I....Keeping items for the fantasy event that may or may not happen. Having a ridiculous amount of things but not being an ounce happier for it. Sorry if I rambled but I am literally going through the process and it's unbelievable what we can uncover about our lives and our habits from something as simple as decluttering. Best wishes and thanks again for the videos and how inspiring they are.

The term "minimalist" is not a definable one. It's an arbitrary term. One can only choose to be a "minimalist" when one has enough financial security to do so. A homeless person, who owns nothing except the clothes on his back is a true "minimalist", but it's not by choice. He no doubt wants more - a bed, a pillow, a few more pieces of clothes, a roof over his head, a clean pair of socks, an enclosed place to sleep so that roaches, rats, and ants don't crawl on him, etc. It's the same with choosing to be vegan or vegetarian. One can only choose to eat in that manner when one has abundant access to food. Because if you're poor, and you're in a situation where you don't have enough food to eat, there is no way you're going to refuse a thick piece of meat if you happen to come across one. "Choices" can only be made when one has "options". In general, people who are financially secure generally have more options than those who are not.

That sounds like just the right amount for traveling and staying places for awhile. I would need more aesthetic items like some art and photos, rugs, a few more small decorative items of personal meaning, a few indoor plants that are sort of like family, some more coffee mugs, and a few kitchen utensils. But maybe once you settle down, you'll bring over a little bit more. I crave the continuity of carrying some things with me year after year, though there is not much left of that sadly. But if you only had 5 suitcases, you definitely did an amazing job 👏

In the process before leaving, I had to go through my entire wardrobe and hundreds of books, and decide what to keep at my friend's, what to give away, and what to bring. My rule for bringing anything back to my new home when I visit my family - did I miss it during the past year? It's amazing how much my priorities changed by moving internationally.

I have the exact same journal. I have 2 many journals so I definitely need to to declutter to maybe 2 and not 7. Also I need to save copies of my documents to the cloud and my hard drive and put other important documents in my file folder. Great video.

My husband is a coffee lover and he used to have a French presser but We replaced it with a coffee cone filter which we let it sit inside mug to get all the coffee flavor then we pull it out and emptied on the trash and we never been so pleased since then. No more getting poke with the French presser mesh and it is so minimal to take anywhere…

I used the French press too but also didn't enjoy getting poked by the mesh 😆 the cone filter sounds like a great idea

What a great video, so interesting seeing what you found truly worth while to bring with you as you make your move. I’m happy to hear that you guys just rented out your home on Maui instead of selling it, because it really does seem like a special corner in the world :) Looking forward to your subsequent videos on your move to Portugal! Hi from Greece :)

I'm case you don't already. I would highly recommend a cloud backup for your hard drives too :) I didn't realise I was holding to stress about loosing, breaking my hard drive and losing all my treasured photos. A massive weight was lifted once I did move over to dropbox and my phone also automatically syncs photos everyday too
