I met Cass Elliot in the Burbank airport. I was waiting for a flight and she walked in the door. She had just gotten off a plane and came inside the airport. I think it was around 1970. Back then the Burbank airport was small and it was easy to see people. I walked over to her, introduced myself, and told her how much I loved her singing. She was so polite and pleasant. She stopped and talked to me and thanked me for liking her. She was all alone. Not like now where a celebrity has security and you can't get near them. Times have changed. She was a classy lady. Hope she is still singing in heaven. She was, and is, missed.

With all the information we're learning about metabolism and weight these days, it's obvious that Cass' weight was more than just calories in/calories out. I get really angry when I hear people called pigs and told they have no self control. There are frequently underlying factors and medicine STILL hasn't figured it all out. Putting all that on her and not respecting her incredible talent is a sin. She was the voice everyone listened for in the group and her solo recordings are phenomenal!!

My mom is a beautiful singer and I was always so afraid to sing because of fear of being compared to her. Then I joined a third order Carmelite group at my parish where we had to chant the psalms. I sang and was actually in tune! I sang for my mom for the first time at age 60 (she was 85) and asked her to help me with the chants. She literally cried, because she never heard me sing and said how joyful it made her feel to hear me sing. I hope Cass's daughter will sing without that fear of comparison. It is so joyful to sing! God bless you both.

Interviewed Call Elliot twice (both times for about 5/6 hrs) First time, for `Ladies of Pop Rock` (`Rock Mommas`) late Sixties and then for the Chicago Tribune Syndicate (60 Sunday magazines) 1970s. Both times she was Electrifying. Also interviewed Michelle Phillips in the Seventies. As per Cass`s evaluation of Michelle, I concur. Said Cass, `I have to pinch her to keep her focused`. Allegations that she was strangled at Mick Jagger`s birthday party were published in Todd Fisher`s autobiography. True or false? Who knows? A great tragedy either way!

True story: I held Owen when she was a newborn baby. I was about 10. My dad was the M&Ps business manager and friend, and my parents took me to Cass Elliott’s Laurel Canyon house to celebrate the birth. As the nurse placed the baby in my arms she told me, I was the first one to hold her, besides Cass and the doctor. I was star struck, and in Heaven. My dad Don Sterling was in Papa John’s book…

Three years ago, I finally lost 1/2 of my body weight to try to control my diabetes. Jesus is my rock and strength and I could not have done it without Him! @@southernlady8809 I did it slowly over 3 years. First two years I lost 50 pounds by just making one baby step change in my diet and lifestyle at a time. Once I mastered a mini goal (like substituting a healthier food for my usual), I added another small change. After two years, I couldn’t lose more and actually began gaining a bit back so the I joined Weight Watchers and over one year, lost another 55.

@@southernlady8809 I didn’t exercise at all. I was recovering from multiple surgeries and couldn’t. First step was quit eating at the table BEFORE I got full. Put fork down and wait 10-15 minutes. If I was still hungry eat a bit more, if not, get up. This helped a lot. It takes your brain about 15 minutes after you eat to register fullness. If you feel full, or worse, stuffed when you get up from the table you have over eaten. I didn’t make any changes in what I ate at that point. Just stop before you are “full”. Later, I started substituting one meal a day with a high protein smoothie made with some strawberries and vanilla flavored protein powder.

So nice to hear this interview! Singing at the end with you two gave me chills! Little story....I was a very young teen working at Tommy Summers Record Shop in Alexandria, VA in the 1960's and one day a woman came in and marched over to all the albums and rifled through them and pulled up the Mama & Papa's album. She turned to me and said very loudly, "this should be in the very front!" Said she was Mama Cass's mother. Then she left. I always remembered that moment. Thanks, Sharon Nalls

My Dad too (who was in the same age category as your Dad) loved the Mamas and the Papas. When they were on the Ed Sullivan Show, he made sure to tune in. It was kind of funny in the 60's to have young parents (early to mid 30s) who were a typical Mom and Dad most of the time yet they liked hearing the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, the Four Seasons, the Supremes and even the Doors.

I was singing with the Pepperdine University's group called "The Traveler's" representing Pepperdine all over California in 1962-1963. So I was very involved with music at the same time as Cass, although on a much smaller scale than Cass..... I came from a very musical family. My daddy was the music director at EVERY church he ever attended for over 65 years. I started singing on stage at about age 8 in a quartet with my daddy and two older brothers, and it went on from there... Music has always been such an integral part of my life. I just turned 79, and although my "3 octave range" has gone down to a range of about 8 notes, I still sing with a "Senior's group" today, squeaking out what I can - LOL. Thanks again for your video. What a voice, what an artist, and what a loss for music. I ALWAYS call her Cass Elliot, not Mama Cass. (I don't call Chynna's mom "Mama Michelle", or Denny Doherty "Papa Denny", right?) The fact that Owen had to deal with her friends' parents asking her about her mother's death is INSANE. I look forward to her book! That's what needs to be done!
