I met Cass Elliot in the Burbank airport. I was waiting for a flight and she walked in the door. She had just gotten off a plane and came inside the airport. I think it was around 1970. Back then the Burbank airport was small and it was easy to see people. I walked over to her, introduced myself, and told her how much I loved her singing. She was so polite and pleasant. She stopped and talked to me and thanked me for liking her. She was all alone. Not like now where a celebrity has security and you can't get near them. Times have changed. She was a classy lady. Hope she is still singing in heaven. She was, and is, missed.

With all the information we're learning about metabolism and weight these days, it's obvious that Cass' weight was more than just calories in/calories out. My mom is a beautiful singer and I was always so afraid to sing because of fear of being compared to her. Then I joined a third order Carmelite group at my parish where we had to chant the psalms. I sang and was actually in tune! I sang for my mom for the first time at age 60 (she was 85) and asked her to help me with the chants. She literally cried, because she never heard me sing and said how joyful it made her feel to hear me sing. I hope Cass's daughter will sing without that fear of comparison. It is so joyful to sing! God bless you both.

Both times she was Electrifying. Also interviewed Michelle Phillips in the Seventies. As per Cass`s evaluation of Michelle, I concur. Said Cass, `I have to pinch her to keep her focused`. Allegations that she was strangled at Mick Jagger`s birthday party were published in Todd Fisher`s autobiography. True or false? Who knows? A great tragedy either way!

What a TREAT! I’ve struggled with my weight since childhood (I’m 65) and Cass Elliot was my fav of the Mamas & Papas. I understand fat shaming and it was really bad in the 60’s and 70’s. All I could get to wear was tent dresses (very unflattering) in the “chubby girls department “. I was turned down and even laughed at for trying out for cheerleading. Three years ago, I finally lost 1/2 of my body weight to try to control my diabetes. Jesus is my rock and strength and I could not have done it without Him! When I am in my car alone, I love to try to harmonize with Cass. God bless and thank you!

@@southernlady8809 I didn’t exercise at all. I was recovering from multiple surgeries and couldn’t. First step was quit eating at the table BEFORE I got full. Put fork down and wait 10-15 minutes. If I was still hungry eat a bit more, if not, get up. This helped a lot. It takes your brain about 15 minutes after you eat to register fullness. If you feel full, or worse, stuffed when you get up from the table you have over eaten. I didn’t make any changes in what I ate at that point. Just stop before you are “full”. Later, I started substituting one meal a day with a high protein smoothie made with some strawberries and vanilla flavored protein powder.

I still love their music and Cass Elliot's music. To see Chynna and Owen interacting and sharing memories in such a sincere, frank and loving way is a most honorable tribute to their parents and the band. Thank you!

Beautiful. I remember very well the day your mom passed. I was 4 years old and was with my mother driving on the Palisades Parkway in Nanuet, NY when it had been announced over the radio. Mom looked at me and said, "Mama Cass died!" My little mouth asked, "Mama Cats!?" I lost my mother when I was 16 and have now outlived her by 7 years and I honor her by living my best life and doing it sober. All good things to the both of you!!

I had just turned 2 when Cass passed away, and I did discover her til after her death. My father was a talented musician and he had a couple Mamas and the Papas records. Her voice, charm, personality, and soul were an absolute force of nature! We've lost so many talented musicians to drugs and/or alcohol, but losing her so young was truly a tragedy! I lost my mom in 2022 at the age of 81, and listening to you talking about your mom brings tears ro my eyes.

Thank you Chynna for having Owen tell her story. I was 8 years old when the Mammas and the Pappas skyrocketed on the scene. I remember listening to Creque Alley and my big brother explaining to me how that song was semi autobiographical and he and I writing down the words! I have felt Ike your family were like family to me as silly as that sounds. Thank you to you and Owen for opening your feelings and your life history laid out open for the fans who loved them ❤ so much. I am 64 and this video has finally brought closure for me. To listen to Owen's voice and watch her mannerisms and the way her hair is so bouncy and shining has made me realize we still have her mom because she lives in her daughter. May God bless all of you and all of the world too. I have to go because someone must be peeling onions because there are tears and I can't type anymore.

I think Cass Elliott was such a gorgeous woman. "Dream a Little Dream of Me" is like silk. I love the way she dances and is so light on her feet. I have not viewed the content yet and am so excited!! Also I am sure you know dear Billy Hinsche and his Momma have gone to heaven. Billy was very close friends with my husband Jerry and often stayed at our home while in Los Angeles. My husband played bass for Ricci Martin. I just had to share that one time when Billy Hinsche was here for the weekend he had just sat in with your Mom somewhere and he was delighted that "Michelle Phillips gave him a little kiss on the cheek". I have been sobbing for 72 hours so this comes as a real treat. Cass Elliott's name comes up in most every Laurel Canyon Rock n Roll story. It's obvious guys like David Crosby and Graham Nash (to name a few) adored her!!!!!!! Okay now I will view and learn. God Bless you both xoxo

I LOVE Cass Elliot and I am FURIOUS at how she has been talked about all these years. She was a MAJOR singer and a MAJOR personality of that period, someone who was beloved by many musicians. What a voice, what an artist, and what a loss for music. I ALWAYS call her Cass Elliot, not Mama Cass. (I don't call Chynna's mom "Mama Michelle", or Denny Doherty "Papa Denny", right?) The fact that Owen had to deal with her friends' parents asking her about her mother's death is INSANE. I look forward to her book! That's what needs to be done! LOVED this interview, thank you for sharing this intimate conversation between two friends (PLUS.....a voice cameo from Michelle Phillips herself!).

@@casssmith2610 For vocal blend, solo singing, distinctiveness and sheer personality, definitely agree. I can't take away credit from John Phillips for writing those great songs because we have to have a ring to put the diamond in! So I'll give it to Cass & John as a tie on that one. Just on a technicality though! Cass is the one I'd want to hang out with. PS: Been listening to her early recordings with The Big Three on and off for the last year or so (which is what probably brought me to this page initially). Some FANTASTIC Cass Elliot performances on there, for those interested.

Cass Elliot changed my life in many ways. After learning about her life, I have noticed many instances where our stories overlap. Even though our lives are running at two different extremes. Our battles with weight, self esteem, addiction, mental health, verbal abuse, anxiety, and depression. But even during her times of pain she taught us so many important lessons. To be true to ourselves, honesty is all you need, to do your own thing, and to make your own kind of music. I believe that we are called home after we fulfill our life’s purpose. She just so happened to do it in 32 years. Her beauty, charisma, and talent will continue to be cherished. I just wish people would let her rest and put aside the sick rumors of how she passed. But now, she is free. She watches over us. We are her flowers. Her precious daisies of all shapes and sizes. We are a gathering of flowers as she tends to us in her Earthly garden as she lives in Heaven. I have struggled with trying to understand my purpose in life, but I think I found one of them. I believe part of my purpose is to help finishing paving the path that she started over 50 years ago. To help pave the way for not only heavy girls like myself, but for all of broken who feel as if we don’t belong. After fighting some of the hardest phases of depression and suicidal thoughts, I am gifted the reminder from one of her songs: “There’s happiness in living. Somewhere between broke and being free.” Maybe I will get so meet you someday. Such a gorgeous woman with a beautiful soul is gone. Only from Earth. Her spirit is alive and well. And I truly feel that she’s looking down on me and saying “good job kid.” After many months of darkness, her music brought me back to life. She breathed new life into me and I could never be more grateful. With love and respect to my angel. Thank you Cass. 💛🌼✨

Yes Mama Cass had talent. The group had some fine songs they made together. It's too bad she died young that was a loss. She had purpose and sad her life ended that way. Always know you too have purpose for your life and never give up. I've personally faced some depression in life and God helped me through, there's always hope with him,and suicide is no way it's a lie to believe it's the way. There is always a way and God always hears when we call. I've learned that God our creator has a reason for our lives for a good future and hope. God is also close to the broken. I believe we are all talented and gifted from God and maybe you're gifted to encourage broken people. Each and every one of us were born with a great purpose. May you know you have purpose too. Just wanted to encourage you.
