There’s a difference between taking people to the crocs than crocs coming to the settlements. When they feed the crocs, they’re travelling to them. Crocodiles and Alligators are ambush predators so they strike when the opportunity arises so if a human or cow is within sight, it’s fair game. They don’t strike because you’re human, they strike because they can.

The amount of small minnows that flew out of the water when the croc entered shows you how good the ecosystem is over there. Shiners tend to hang out in large numbers closer to the banks when there are larger predatorial fish in the deeper parts of the water. If you find them either toward the shore in large numbers, or in the shallows in large numbers, it is how you know you've got a good fishery nonetheless.
@Noises3 жыл бұрын
Northern Territory is one of the hardest places in the world to get a commercial fishing license. It is also arguably the most incredible amatuer angler's tourist destination on Earth. This is state governement policy, has been for decades, and the fisheries are booming because of it. Covid has only increased the population densities, since fewer people have been able to vist. Right now more than any time since white settlement, the waterways of the NT are practically crawling with once-in-a-lifetime catches.

As an Australian I would like to let everyone know that the crocodile leather that hits the fashion market isn't from wild caught animals but rather from places like crocodlious Park, this gives them the fund to continue research and increase public awareness of crocs
@ianzhao56932 жыл бұрын
It might be true for some of them but people will do everything for profit. In the end, it will be very hard to trace the origin. My dad used to bring back elephant leathered handbags from Thailand, and the vendors told him they were sourced from elephants that died of natural causes in captivity. Later we found out that there were a lot of elephants that were used for labor, and when they could no longer work or injured they were shot. Not to mention the illegal trade of wild elephants that were gunned down.
@mpcg1022 жыл бұрын
@@ianzhao5693 look while that may be true of your personal experience with Thailand, I can with pretty much certainty tell you that with estuarine crocodile leather it comes from farmed animals as a wild catch just wouldn't be practical economically speaking

Being my hero, i yelled out "Steve, Crikey M8 look out" He beeped, waved, smiled & impacted my life forever. When he died i knew the world lost more than just a Great guy & family man. When im missing Steve & all his greatness i just check up on Bob Irwin doing all the hard work to save & care for wildlife & it makes all the sadness fade, i see Steve, a natural born Steve, Lost his father, but became exactly what he never (Unfortunately) got to experience which was growing up with a Father. These are living dinosaurs, that's how I've always seen these magnificent creatures. This is why having such a vast landscape where we don't have many inhabitants around the center is perfect. We can obviously deal with these guys if they were to ever start taking over towns, but just let them be free where they are at least. People don't seem to realize that EVERYTHING on this planet has a purpose, wether it be insects such as Ant's and Bee's, or predators such as Crocodiles, Lions and Sharks. You take something from an ecosystem and it will start to diminish, wether slowly or rapidly is not the point, over time it will be completely diminished even if it goes slow.

This, thank u. It was difficult to watch them taping up the crocs to go and be euthanized , that really turned my stomach. And just because we humans may not always be able to understand what their purposes are, it doesn't mean we should try and bend nature to our random fleeting desires. Which means they will continue to come back in larger numbers to establish their own territory in those new areas which is close to human settlements. If crocs are able to start eating humans they will see us as a food source and will actively start trying to hunt humans down. Not something many would like to see happening. I understand crocs have a right to their territory and they have it otherwise they wouldn’t be exploding in number. But they can’t infringe upon our rights as humans to be safe in our territory. Same thing with shark enthusiasts and conservationists. And even some marine biologists. They can’t ever just state plainly: some animals DO see you as prey and WILL predate on you….they saw that poor Russian eaten alive screaming in agony and crying for his father, and their biggest sympathy went out to the SHARK who was later neutralized so it won’t eat other humans. This world stands no chance of survival in any cataclysmic event. And I’m glad

Crazy aren't you? Murder is not going to solve anything . If you wanted them to stop, do it by destroying their bussiness, report their company and fight for new law of conservation so they won't able to do it anymore. Why choose murder? What a wicked way of thinking. You love this crocs so much? Go with them in the wild and play hide and seek then you know these animals don't care about you. Because they will freakin kill you .

Whatever happened to Steve Irwin’s philosophy of placing stress traps near human settlements so the crocs associate humans with a bad experience?
@louiscypher41863 жыл бұрын
Human settlements kept expanding, croc's need a ton of range. It's no longer viable to keep clear distinctions between the two in most locations. Which is why darwin harbour is zero tolerance. There's still about 250 relocations each year, but they are only for problem crocodiles. If they are small enough they get sent to crocodile farms, if their too big for the workers on those farms to manage they are destroyed.
@melpeddle72433 жыл бұрын
Traps don't work when they are breeding out of control. And are fully protected. And there's dozens of farms around Australia breeding them for meat and skins. They need culling to sensible numbers.
@johnwayne66473 жыл бұрын
The crocodiles do not need to be culled and in reality they should not be removing all crocodiles from the Darwin harbor juys have good education about not where to swim you gotta keep the ecosystem healthy

The problem is that Crocodilians have an incredible sense of direction and location built into their brains. There's stories of crocs being tagged and relocated very far distances away from the capture location only to find that the same croc finds its way back to the location some weeks or months later. Smart critters.
