Sometimes, dating a Chinese girl is not all moonlight and roses, at least not according to our Audio Podcast guest, Jonas!
Jonas outline 8 major complaints that many Chinese guys have about dating Chinese girls:
1. Girls are domineering
2. Girls are clingy
3. Girls always expect guys to consider their emotions
4. Girls accuse guys of being “straight men”
5. Girls like to escalate a minor problem into a bigger one
6. Girls mess with other guys whom they say are just friends
7. Girls always want a gift on festivals
8. Girls always doubt guys’ loyalty

All these girls/women sound like a nightmare to me. I'm French and this behavior wouldn't fly here passed middle school. The lack of maturity is terrible. I dated a chinese girl for 8 months, and I'm a caucasian (french) canadian. She was great, but there was definitely some cultural things I had to learn. She was much wealthier than me, but still expected me to pay for many things and to take her out. Also to hold her bags when shopping, which took forever. She also wasn't super affectionate, and whenever we were in public we had to be super "proper" and could only hold hands and nothing else. Other than that though, she was pretty awesome :) It just didn't work out because in the end we weren't super compatible.
@ivanivan5511
@ivanivan5511 11 ай бұрын
Imo...bills should be paid 50/50. Holding her bags is fine, I can cooperate if she's cooperative too. Being proper in public is mature to me, people here act as though they're teenagers who've found their first gf/bf and wanna show them off everyone just like a kid showing their toys.

Very good presentation, thanks. The amount of work for the translation shows clearly and raises the value of the video considerably, at least to those who are studying the language. I think it goes both ways, some of the complaints. Some men can be controlling, of course. I bet the complaints can in many cases have another side that can in fact be justified, so it can be confusing to interpret at face value. So some complaints are about issues intrinsic in any relationship but can still be grating, like sacrifice of enjoyable activities to benefit the significant other. Communication is a big issue, too, and mood.

In China, in Italy, or another culture....growing up as a single child, a mamma-boy or a daddy-princess, will shape you into a person more self-centered and less willing to share and give, a person constantly demanding attention. It takes a strong character and an engaging society to ameliorate these traits.
@alexlei2235
@alexlei2235 3 жыл бұрын
That's a rather large generalization. The one-child policy (they've raised it to two now) and general upbringing culture in China definitely causes a higher rate of these cases, but you can see with one-child families in any country that it is not the sole deciding factor, and there is a significant number of single children that grow up to be perfectly fine, though they must rely more on their peer relationships to develop interpersonal skills and principles. The other main factor besides being a single child is ultimately the parenting, and I think that should be focused on a little more. There's a culture of grandparents spoiling and parents being strict with children, which may contribute to people developing self-centered behavior and high expectations of others. Women are also a rather strong force culturally in a Chinese household, which is what the man in the video was talking about. Even with that, his words can be taken with a grain of salt, as the anecdotes he brings are just anecdotes: subjective accounts based on one side of the story. We don't know how good of a boyfriend these guys are or if the stories have been modified, though the general trends of their complaints can be surmised.
@predrag-peterilich900
@predrag-peterilich900 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexlei2235 I agree and I have changed and toned down my comment. Yet I have directly experienced at least two such people in my life. There is a clear pattern of behavior in these people though the whole issue is a more complex one. And no, it's not a "Chinese phenomenon".

Excellent video. I am still HSK1 level or even more novice than that. But it was a topic I was curious about. And I found out that the downside to dating Chinese women is the downside to dating women from any culture or country. I think these traits are common with all women regardless of where they are from. If you deeply care about the woman you are dating, then I think the guy will tolerate your flaws and focus on remaining loyal to her. All the other things don't matter as much for him

This was great educational content but I think the descriptions about women are big generalizations. He basically focuses on negative traits women have as if they are a liability. Let's look past these stereotypes of which gender is better or worse. All humans can have positive or negative traits, it's up to the individual to improve themselves and become a better person. I understand he is poking fun with some topics, but when people start to think groups of people all act and behave a certain way, this leads to problems in society.

@@seth1455 All you say is related to what I said. Unfortunately, women of all ages (and cultures) measure the value of a man based on their financial situation. If they see or think that a man will not satisfy their, let's say wishes or expectations, then that man is not worth it. Think about it... Even those women that say that money is not an issue, sooner than later will say otherwise. Women have fought quite hard for a long time to be equal to men. Sadly, they fail to understand the concept of equality. In any case, that's my humble and out of own experience opinion.

There's a Chinese saying "男人不坏,女人不爱" it's basically the same as nice guys finish last, and girls love bad boys. The root issue is that if the man is soft and a pushover, he won't be respected, and will be less attractive. In a society of gender equality, man and woman has EQUAL right to do what makes them happy. If the man doesn't stand up to defend his right, then that's the most unattractive type of man. The relationship is doom to fail because one day the man will burn out and instead of being dominated, they'll just divorce or in some cases he might do something regrettable.

Note: It's not necessary to have all of those characters, but if you do, that's perfect. BTW, I am a Chinese guy in my mid 20s.

@@ELA33520 If what you said is true then you are attractive to most Chinese guys, also I want to say if a girl can cook and is willing to cook, which is a advantage. Because nowadays many Chinese girls don't know how to cook and they don't want to learn it, basically they just depend on their boyfriends or takeouts. I don't mean they are lazy or something, but their attitudes toward cooking or food really piss some Chinese guys off, including me...Anyway, wish you good luck to meet and date a decent Chinese guy. :)

@@jznn8218 Guys can also do cooking, I don't think it's a big deal. In young generation, many man can cook and will share housework. They are no big deal for me. But I prefer girl who have a job and can feed the family together, instead of a housewife.

It's not that I would go out of my way to date a Chinese girl, but I wouldn't avoid it either. There are always cultural differences that can cause misunderstandings, but if you are open minded and learn about that culture, most misunderstandings can be minimized. Plus, each person is different, and we should treat everyone as an individual, not as a stereotype.

Interesting to listen 😂, but in my opinion eastern guy mindset might be different compared to western guy (no matter european or asian) mindset. Domineering is not a good sign but 2 ways communication and respect each other is very important, I love to share my feeling (happy, sad or anger) to my partner or children and I expect they do the same, therefore we will be able to know each other more. but my opinion, the key of good relationship is 1. Respect each other and 2. Communicate well.

i would much prefer to date a Taiwanese RoC girl than a PRC girl. Taiwanese girls are much better, more open minded, better English skills, and the RoC is the real "China" without any of the past 71 years of problems. Taiwan RoC is what the PRC could be without the CCP

These observations are hilarious. And universal. Chinese women aren't that much different to women everywhere. There are some cultural differences but a lot of these complaints are normal behaviors. You would expect this conduct from mostly younger women but I have dated some Chinese women in their thirties and I was surprised by the lack of maturity shown. I think this is a cultural attitude, perhaps due to being spoilt. When I was travelling in China I saw many young women hanging off their mothers as though they were young children. You don't see this to the same extent elsewhere. This attitude seems to have passed over into adult relationships. I feel for my Chinese brothers. They have their work cut out for them. Haha But don't imagine for a moment that it's a lot better in other countries. Relationships are hard work in any language.

I think we all know girls who behave like those mentioned in the video. In my opinion, it doesn't have to do much with nationality, but rather age and maturity (or lack of). I had (German and Spanish) girlfriends in my early twenties who behaved very much like the "princesses" described in the video and I know a very mature Chinese lady who is not at all like that. I think age and - maybe - hardships make people grow.

Not sure why you guys think this is only limited to chinese. Learning to cook, clean. Earn money, work hard for family, take care of gf. These are all shared things in every country. You should see chinese girls really are not any different than normal girls everywhere else.
