Anyone else find it ironic that the eKO mat has so much plastic packaging? Thanks for the review & close-ups. Definitely helps in the purchase decision.

Well...considering the smell-they had to wrap it up...and it is degradable. In my mind-that counts :)

Thanks for the comparison! :) Just have to add a little correction... The Pro mat IS made of PVC, although according to the company website it's "made from the highest quality ....eco-certified safe....PVC on the planet, manufactured emissions-free...". ;) It's also supposedly latex-free, which is great for people with a latex allergy.

Have both as well, the heavy Pro for home & the slightly lighter eKo for on the go studio practice. Had the same observations, very dense hard and slippery Pro and a softer gripper eKo. The Pro does take sometime to break in. Mine was quite slippery at first. I did the sea salt scrub multiple times & even mixed in some sea salt into my homemade mat cleaning spray. In the end what worked best was simply using it & leaving it outside in the sun over the summer when most of my practices were outdoors (which you could never do with the eKo as prolonged exposure to UV sun rays degrades the rubber). The Pro is now softer & much more comfortable then the eKo. The Pro works over anything including dirt & rocks. And if it gets really dirty it’s PVC, just wipe away the dirt with a wet rag & spray some home made mild mat wash, let it penetrate the stains & wipe it clean. The eKo still has the edge on grip even after all this time, however I find I have to treat it more gently then the Pro.

I liked that you mentioned the smell, inconsistency of size and difference in materials. Might be interesting if u do an update whether the mats hold up in grippiness after awhile.

I used eko for a few years everyday, and can tell that the smell will not go away, with time it will only start reminding basketball balls smell... lots of those balls in one place:)) after years of use those grippy ribs wears out in mostly pressed places and you start thinking about getting the new one

The Pro mat has more of a break-in period, depending on how often you do yoga. I just bought a Pro mat long, replacing a Pro Lite (to have a wider + longer mat) and it is noticeably less tacky, but I know for certain that it will get more give and stickier over time since they use the same material.

What exactly is wrong with your old amazon mat? I have a cheap mat and the manduka pro black mat and I use them interchangeably. My cheap mat is TWELVE years old. I think that the high end mat craze is a bit of hype.
@lawsonone60155 жыл бұрын
Agree with your statement about preferring a name with “pro” in it. It IS mainly psychological.
@David-su2oi4 жыл бұрын
Right?! The high end mats are so expensive and made with planned obsolescence so you have to replace them faster if not more than cheaper mats. You get the brand name and maybe better performance but at a great cost of having to replace them a ton. For example, even since this video was made, the full size eKO mat is now 2 inches narrower (24 inches) and the top layer flakes off after a year of regular use. Go look it up! And the Pro mats of today get scuffed and punctured but Manduka's customer service called it a cosmetic imperfection and wouldn't cover it under their lifetime warranty.... Also, they have horrible horrible grip. They want you to buy the grip towel and own different mats and replace them again and again. Then I realized I'd just be fine with my $30 mat. Yes it gets scuffed more but it's way grippier than the Pro, it's definitely cushiony enough, and it's lasted me great.

Cause you ain't doing yoga right if you ain't got a "brand" name yoga mat 😂 cheap mat user here! I'd rather focus my energy on the thing that matters most - having a good yoga session! Rather than nitpicking the differences of this mat and that. That's commercialization for ya!

Thanks for the review. I've had the eko 79" in the color Acai (under $60 on Amazon) for about a year. The first couple months I left it unrolled on my floor & the faint smell that is left is fine with me. Like you I love the feel & grip of the eko. I just ordered the Pro 85" in the color kyi (apparently another unloved color) for $90 at Nordstrom Rack and I am wondering if I'll like it as much as my eko. Based on your review I may use it for floor work but stick w/my EKO for yoga. Have you still found that you prefer the eko to the Pro?
@Tekuben5 жыл бұрын
I like the Pro’s thickness more than I dislike its grip, so that’s my go-to right now. How has the eKo held up over the year? Let us know how you like the Pro after you get it!
@melanie.c255 жыл бұрын
@@Tekuben the eKO has held up really well. The only blemish I have is a one inch spot on an edge that I believe I scuffed with my shoe or weights when strength training & my mat was rolled out on the floor (really stupid move!). Otherwise, the mat has been amazing so far but I'm looking forward to trying out the Pro when it arrives it a few days!

@thaisjohnston7975 жыл бұрын
I've had my eko mat for about 1 1/2 years and I have no issues. I practice on many surfaces, sweaty or cooler conditions. Took it with me to travel half way across the world. I love mine. And I practice a lot (yoga instructor) and my heels and pads of my big toes are definitely rough at times and still love it.

My mate is going to break. Send photos. Customerservice say the mate is not manduka, the need papers from buying and the break is not so bad. I can take the mate further. They make reklame of 10 years warrantx, and then they not help. I ask for rabatt to a new mate, and they say no. End of conversations. Look on amazon, many have the same conversations like me. Is is all fake with warranty. Never ever again.
