this episode perfectly encapsulates why the mantis lords are one of my favourite bosses in the game, even after having come close to completely beating the game!! from being frustrated by the run back to them after dying, the improvement in getting back, from being overwhelmed by the obviously telegraphed attacks of the one mantis to slowly getting into the rhythm enough to realise you could maybe get through it without getting hit. the way this battle teaches you to get better at the game, getting the rhythm of dodging and attacking, to understanding what windows you should actually be looking for if you want to heal, getting accustomed to tempo changes when you have to 1v2 them! it’s so rewarding too, getting the charm and riches in that one room, but especially realising the mantises won’t attack you anymore- just watching that part made me tear up :3 such a good episode so far, sm to enjoy!!

As other people have said, going back to explore Greenpath at some point is not a bad idea ;) Btw when exploring make sure you're looking out for broken walls/ceilings/floors. There are a lot of hidden rooms or paths, showed by different ways (wall looks broken, different lighting, floor to be broken with the ability, ...), you missed a few in this episode (which is fine, dont worry about missing stuff its absolutely normal 😉)

Great job with the Mantis Lords Emma! I was the same as you with trying to heal too much at first, but once you forget about that and just get into the flow of the fight it becomes much easier I found. Thanks for another awesome video, and I hope you have a great weekend.

Seriously one of the most fun and fair fights in the game. Tough, but every move is clearly and distinctly telegraphed making it one of the easiest bosses to do no-hit. It's a beautiful dance once it really clicks. That said, they kicked me around the stadium a lot my first run too. 😂

Ooh, you spotted the tell for the air disc Mantis thing, I NEVER spotted it in my playthrough, it would've helped so much lmao. You did incredibly well, even when you were discouraged - the first time dodging was excellent, it's incredibly easy to be overwhelmed by that fight if you try and chase the Mantis. You spotted straight away it was about hanging back and catching them after they attacked, it was really cool!

I don't think Emma realizes that every time she runs from a scary enemy, she's just drawing those enemies to a place where there's another enemy so now she's trapped between enemies. It's happened several times (I paused right after she died to the flukemons in Waterways) and I find myself screaming at the screen like a sports fan, "don't run! Don't panic! Turn around and fight! You have a sword and magic! Use them!" I may need therapy but this is how I'm entertained. 😅

Best thing to do with the collectables (Seals, Journals and more to come) is to hold onto them until you need geo for something you can't afford. No spoilers here, just some comments on your comments, and a couple of quick tips about some minor things: 9:05 - About a "perfect playthrough;" Yeah, I know this can be hard, but don't worry about that. Hollow Knight isn't about a "perfect playthrough." It about watching how people discover things and how they "git gud." 1:26:46 - Lol. Your songs are super cute! Please continue regaling us. 1:31:53 - Check out this part of your video and give it a listen real quick. Maybe you'll hear something... 1:37:38 - I wonder what's to all those "lefts" as you ride that elevator down... 1:39:08 - Correct! It's a bad idea to sell stuff unless you're making a "direct run" as you call it. Geo is attached to your "shade" when you die, but items like Hallownest Seals and Wanderer's Journals are not, so it's a good way to "store" money on yourself. 1:47:30 - We've all made that face when hearing Cornifer. He is the light in the darkness. 1:51:10 - The area where you're worried about saving the bug... maybe try going LEFT of the Dashmaster statue now that you have the Mantis Claws? 1:58:30 - Wait until you go into Deepnest... 2:02:26 - Swimming in poo is a flex? Okay... No judgement. Lol. 2:05:00 - Don't forget that "Desolate Dive" is a super useful attack. It's that thing you got for "ground pounding" from the Soul Master. Maybe give it a try while using the Shaman Stone charm. Side note: it gives you a couple of frames of invincibility after you use it. Honestly, it's probably the best attack in the game. 2:06:04 - Long nail, mark of pride, and steady body are all easy to get too used to. That's what they're there for, though. Play the game the way you want to. People will chime in at times if you're having a hard time with a particular boss and give advice on charm builds that are good against that particular boss, but follow or ignore as you like. Loving your playthrough!!! Thanks for sharing it with us!!!

Comparing my man Ogrim to the Dung Eater 😞 He's just a dung beetle swimming in the poop of the city denizens... Remember, when jumping over bosses you can pogo on them for some extra height and damage. This also works to make it over some projectiles like the Mantis Lords' spinning blades, and The Dung Defender has a special interaction with the ground-pound spell if you have the soul to spare; it pops him out of the ground when he's burrowing.

Awesome to see you conquer the Mantis Lords! Many people have a lot of trouble with that fight (I think I've even seen a video where someone didn't beat them until like their 23rd try). Getting the Mark of Pride charm was great, was slightly irritated that it took you so long to put it on, but the difference in your performance against the Dung Defender speaks for itself. Mind you, the Shaman Stone is actually one of the best charms in the game (it doesn't just make your spells stronger, it makes their hit boxes bigger), BUT! But if you don't have the soul to use the spells because you're constantly healing and/or not hitting your enemies, then the charm doesn't do you any good. Speaking of charms not doing you any good, on your runback to the Dung Defender you never dropped either the compass nor the magnet charms, so they were just taking up room that could have been used to have the Soul Catcher charm equipped. Just a basic principle to keep in mind, if the run back to a boss is short and/or easy enough to do without facing too many mobs in between and you can remember how to get there without checking the map then you should try maximizing your charm setup; it will make a big difference. Mind you, I understand if you're deliberately trying to challenge yourself, but other than that two slots being taken up for non-combat reasons isn't a small thing. I agree with your sentiment about the nasty worm like creatures. Mark of Pride would have helped you a lot against them, but their sounds, looks, and movement will always be some of the nastiest things in the game. Definitely having fun watching this playthrough, keep up the good work!

I remember the very first time I fought the Mantis Lords. I had NEVER played any other Metroidvania Platformer game before. So no kind of experience, I died SOO many damn times to them despite understanding their moves are REALLY telegraphed. So don't feel too bad gettin' flustered about it 🤣 Although after playing/beating Elden Ring, my current playthrough I've just been blowing past everything. So with the Elden Ring experience + beating it 2 times already. Feels nice to just play it without struggling Lol

@@lookalike4805 For me I got hit because I had shitttt timing & I was trying to zoom especially after getting the dash 🤣 So having a zoom mindset & just being bad at timing, made for a really bad/tough fight for me Lol

What a rollercoaster "This is horrible!" "I love this!" "This is the worst!" "Amazing!" "I can't take this!" "I love him!" Looking at the length of the vid you might think these are evenly spread. They are not. Some of them are right after each other.

You might have realised this in the meantime, but you have more hit impact than you think. Try hitting everything in combat, you might be surprised
