Tbh this review wasn't as thorough. They didn't talk much about Macbeth in relation to the movie, the other actors, art direction, editing, lighting, makeup etc. They just kept saying it's good for 30 minutes :p which is okay. But I expected much more from the review since they're really good with it.

@Sandeep Mehta I think you have not actually seen Pankaj Kapoor. Pankaj Kapoor is always believable as actor. His characters are always so grounded and relatable. Whereas SRK mostly plays over the top roles. He is good but not as good as Pankaj. Pankaj just didnt get that much limelight. I recommend you to watch Ek Doctor ki Maut, Ek Ruka hua Faisla, Chameli ki shadi, Kamla ki maut, The Blue Umbrella. TV Show Office Office.

The reason why Om Puri (soothsayer/cop) kept showing his tongue was because earlier on Naseeruddin Shah said about him that he has a black tongue which in Hindi is an idiom that means one who has a black tongue can tell future. Also, I don't know whether you got the underlying meaning behind the scene where Abbaji forces his main bodyguard to drink alcohol. His bodyguard was an unfaltering Muslim. Devoted and religious Muslims don't consume alcohol as it is prohibited in Islam. Karma comes back to bite him in the end as the bodyguard gets too drunk since he was not accustomed to drinking and Abbaji gets killed.

Interesting review! It might come as a surprise to you guys that Vishal Bharadwaj was not familiar with Shakespeare’s work before making this film. He confesses in his interviews that he was introduced to Shakespeare’s not through his original classics but short summaries/Shakespeare for dummies kind of books. I guess that partly explain his unique departures from the original!

Thankfully I do not have to recommend Omkara, because you already have plans to do so (which you totally should!), but since you watched 7 Khoon Maaf in between Haider and Maqbool, maybe it's a good idea to watch Kaminey or Rangoon before watching Omkara. You know, mixin' it up. :-) Also, I would love for you to watch Monsoon Wedding (cast includes Naseeruddin Shah & Vijay Raaz) and The Namesake (Irfan Khan & Tabu together again). Speaking of Mira Nair's films: you should really watch them all. That is one director whose films I think you will appreciate.

Maqbool is a masterpiece . Period. Haider was good in its parts. In Maqbool , Mr Khan speaks from his eyes, and speaks with his body language. However, Mr. Khan's best work EVER is his first movie in a leading role called HAASIL based on university student politics in UTTAR PRADESH Northern India. And the actor who plays ABBA is Shahid Kapur's father PANKAJ KAPUR a thespian of theatre television and films. And as regards to Mr. Bhardwaj, he went cuckoo in his biggest production of RANGON starring SAIF ALI , KANGANA RANAUT -- the biggest disaster of his career. Coming back to Mr. Kha's HAASIL--it is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, (the main antagonist of Gangs of Wasseypur)

Something about Vishal Bharadwaj you may not know. One of his passions is Urdu poetry and he is great admirer of a muslim poet Bashir Badr's work. Badr's home was set on fire by extremist rioters in 1985. Most of Badr's new work which was unpublished at the time (Vishal was a 20 year-old who had had access to the poems, as his sister and Badr's daughter were fellow students and through whom he had befriended Badr) was lost in the fire and Badr was greatly depressed about this as he considered his new work lost to the world. Vishal knew almost 90% of the poems by heart so could help Badr reclaim most of his work!

You guys should try out "The Blue Umbrella" by Vishal Bhardwaj. It's an adult movie disguised as a kid's movie. Very nuanced performances by Pankaj Kapoor and the little girl. Based on the short story by the writer of Saat Khoon Maaf

Pankaj Kapoor, as many have commented, is a commendable actor. He has carved out a niche for himself and is brilliant like Naseeruddin Shah. Tabu is another great actor! In fact all the actors in this movie are extremely talented. They may not be enjoying a star status but are masters of their craft.

As safe as mother's womb" Vishal Bhardwaj is the lifeblood of my journey with storytelling (from The Jungle Book and "Jungle-Jungle Baat Chali hai" to Makdee to Haider) from William Shakespeare to Ruskin Bond he takes literature and brings it to life like so few can. If I had any, I'd give all my money to Vishal sir and beg him to make his version of The Jungle Book and I have no doubt he'd make a version of the story like Ruskin Bond imagined while writing it. Very good review. Only complain is that there was only a blink and you miss kind of mention of arguably one of the best actor of our times "Pankaj Kapur"( Head of Mafia). He is a role model for theater actors!!!!

Hi guys!!! Quentin's first film was Reservoir Dogs. Little fun fact: There is an unofficial remake of Reservoir Dogs in hindi called 'Kaante' with few scenes from The Usual Suspects. You must react to that, it is a great film. Even Tarrantino appreciated the remake. :)

I feel like this one is better than his other works becoz it was very much brilliant from the point of view when it was released.. What kinda cinema existed then.... Plus there are very little nuances which you can miss becoz of the cultural specific scenarios.. The way u can relate the characters living near u in india... Its a marvel if an indian well aware of his surroundings watch it with love for cinema...all the cast are gems of theatres... All graduates from national school of drama... Feeling lucky to work with a talented man, vishal n vice versa.. However short roles they had....
