The greatest naval battle ever "If calculated by number of men alone", That's nice to finally hear from a documentary. I know your stucff is technically more like a lecture but still, also generally people are more provocative than that, they want you thinking of as much drama as they can get you to without you becoming turned off of their product, that sweet spots the goldilocks zone.

Thank you so much for giving credit to the all out forgotten Xanthippus! His victory shows much similarities (as you said) to the battle of Cannae in case of encircelment and decisiveness. Probably Hannibal Barca listened carefully to the storys of this battle, told in Carthage the years after and got valuable ideas for his future tactics.

What about the multiple references to his battle with the giant dragon before crossing the river at Bagrades? Pretty fascinating account.

Xanthippus gave the phalanx Macedonian sarisas ... and placed them between the Elephants. So it was almost impossible for the Romans to get in between the Beasts...

Didn't know that detail. High risk choice though.

Some sources talk about a xanthippus being at ptolemaic egypt but we don't know if it was that xanthippus but it's plausible if we believe Polybius that he returned back to greece
