In this video, Marcus was at the Big House in Macon, GA, where the Allman Brothers Band lived together for a spell. It’s now a museum to the band. He’s actually playing Duane Allman’s ‘57 Goldtop, that Duane famously played on the Layla album. Marcus is the man!

With a voice similar to Janis Joplin in a lot a ways, and his killer guitar playing, he's one of my favorite artists, he's mastered the accompany of his singing by his brilliant use of chords shapes,stabs,single note lines,ect. so much to learn from every song he plays,his timing, touch,and dynamics are spot on, just an awesome player and singer.
@MrJeremy03112 жыл бұрын

Seen a lot of shows but standing ten feet from the edge of the stage in a half full theater watching this kid a couple years back was in the top five. Everything he does is phenomenal and his band was top notch too. So much soul in his playing and chord choices.

He used to play at a local bar in my hometown. Rumors at the time were he was about to sign on Warren Haynes record label so the place was packed. We were able to meet and talk with him, extremely humble guy. About 6 months later he was on tour with Tedeschi Trucks band and we were able to see him again in a much bigger setting.

Naahhh, he's far better at guitar than vocals. He doesn't show it off much cuz he's so busy pursuing the singer-songwriter shit but go back and look at some old clips when he was touring with his band. He's a guitar god.

I learned about Marcus through your earlier reactions and was thrilled when I found out that he was opening for Chris Stapleton last Saturday for a show I bought tickets for a while back. Tons of guys have chops, killer chops, but guys like Marcus, Josh Smith, [Bloomfield(!) decades ago] have vocabularies. Their story-telling with the same 12-notes we all have access to is inimitable. Clapton could just turn blues-phrases inside-,out; that's why he was 'God.' Marcus is in that pantheon of greatness. Only gonna get better...

when you say the 3rd gives us the function . I agree but then explain the theory behind the dominant 7 chord. 1 b3 5 b7. surely that tells us both major and minor pen ( so therefore dorian and mixolydian) also work. the 3rd (for me) dictates( i agree) unless we are dominant
