You can hear the eagle scream through her voice in this one. Nature is calling. Beautiful.

How do I express this? First of all, I find it extraordinarily interesting! The new interpretations of indigenous music definitely have a shared commonality. Whether it's Scandinavian, Asian or Native American. I can visualize the migration over the ancient land bridge, with each culture having their stories and history communicated through an oral or musical tradition. It predates any sort of formal education. It's all very primal and transcendental. That's why it makes us feel the way we do. The languages that the songs are sung in, are to me, just incidental. On a modern side note; this sort of music is very psychedelic and I can easily get a contact trip from it if I allow myself to go there. Thanks for exposing me to a new artist MOG!

Wow, well said Joel! It's been an added bonus to introduce people to these amazing artists.

As an American Sami, thanks for being polite to us and not rude

I would never be rude to anyone based on where they came from and what makes them who they are. 100% love and understanding is what the world needs!

Mari is just a wonder. You were right with the pronunciation by the way, it is Marry as opposed to Mary. This woman is positively supernatural. There is a version of this song at the Music for life festival in Switzerland which you should check out - it's a more acoustic version without all the reverb on her voice but just as brilliant. I love how you picked up on the similarity with native American music - like the indigenous Americans the Sami people have been around for 10,000 years and have been just as poorly treated. Mari is also an activist for her people. Gula gula is another song worth investigating. I loved this reaction - more people should know about Mari. Love and greetings from Scotland!

A track of Mari Boine well worth checking out is It sat duolmma mu, either the song by her, or the rendition made by Norwegian artist Matoma with Einar Selvik from Wardruna on vocals, as part of a Norwegian TV show, where artists meet up and do renditions of eachothers song. Each programme does only songs by one of the artist that are on it. And when it was Mari Boine's day. Matoma chose to include Einar Selvik on vocals, as Matoma himself doesn't sing.

Hi there i love Mari Boine. She's got a fantastic discography. Many albums. The last one released This year. She allso joined Peter Gabriel on his world Music Project and Jan Garbarek on one of his soloalbums.❤

I love that you're xploring these Scandinavian and East European groups and their "tribal" music. So many new sounds and melodies to discover here and a cleanse for the ears from the mediocrity of mainstream and meaningless music monotony.

Yes! It's a welcome change of pace for sure. I've said it before but as a human being this music connects to the root of me like I've never felt before. Hope you're well, CirTap!

@@TheRealMommaOG yes, thank you! 🤗 Someone else mentioned "primal", and I think that's the right term for the sensation this kind of music evokes in us mere mortals.

The stringed instrument you play with 'drumsticks' is the Hammered Dulcimer, I think - or maybe some variation of that. I love Hammered Dulcimer music whenever I get the suprise of hearing it. Reminds me of another band 'Dead Can Dance' a little bit. The song "Rakim" has prominent Hammered Dulcimer in the intro. The vocalists are so great and the female vocalist is Lisa Gerrard - whose voice is one of my favorites. She has such depths and heights in her dark tambre. Maybe you could start down that amazing rabbit hole. Here is a cool video someone made with lots of spiritual imagery that has almost 4 million views. Their album 'Toward the Within' is one of my personal favorites. I also feel the same way about Lisa Gerrard. Her voice fills me with spirit and you can feel its power in your spine. This song is just to introduce you without overwhelming you. Lisa's voice is so powerful you have to slowly reveal it or it can be unsettling. "Rakim" : kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaKYaqV7i7yEhKs

OH wow. This woman gives me so much Lisa Gerrard. The same peircing soundscapes. I can feel it reverberate during her long peircing ethereal notes! Wow. Now I wonder if Lisa wasn't inspired by this style of music!
