The movie "Spotlight" shares the true story of reporters investigating the Catholic church sex abuse scandal. Their probe exposed more than 70 abusive priests and found the cover-up went all the way to the archbishop of Boston. Two-time Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo plays reporter Mike Rezendes, who won a Pulitzer Prize along with the Boston Globe investigative team for their coverage. Both Ruffalo and Rezendes join “CBS This Morning” to discuss the film.

+moiraine_damodred I just watched the movie and I loved it I felt like one of the reporters waiting for the story yo be published and when the cars get out with the newspapers I felt finally the story is going to see the light and of course the acting was 100% authentic

moiraine_damodred yeah the same Academy criticized for lack of diversity, etc. Golden Globes gave REVENANT Best Dramatic Pic. Academy's selection makes one pause and think. Odd that it wins best pix with ONLY ONE other win--for screenplay.

Survivor here. I've seen Spotlight several times now and I'm currently reading the book. It's such an incredible story of this reporting team. They patiently gathered all the evidence and pulled off the biggest "Check Mate" against the most powerful religion in the world. In the process, they successfully released countless victims from years of shame and silence. They gave all of us a voice to be heard so that justice may some day come to fruition.

you must watch this. its about exposing the truth and not about sexual abuse or gratifing urges. its about the real danger of not telling. excellent movie.

"boys are the most easily victimized" - what a powerful line. having raised several children and worked with several families as a health educator, it amazes me how many new and/or inexperienced parents or people voice so much more concern for raising girls. i wish more people knew how much more vulnerable boys are in our society; this idea is almost incomprehensible for a lot of people. i'm so happy to hear how MR pointed this out so eloquently in this interview. thank you MR !!!

My friend who generally likes only action movies and horror loved this. She said it was somehow more interesting than wall to wall action. She at one time made a fist, and said this was the first time a movie made her physically angry. Watch this movie, everyone.

Especially seeing all those places in the end Jesus christ. But the acting was extraordinary and I'm so glad this came out and I WISH I saw it sooner !! Wish I saw it the day it came eout

Watch the documentary deliver us from evil. It includes the priest who abused children and is retired to Ireland. He actually tells his own story. It's a very raw and chilling thing to view.

Thank You CBS, keeping the spotlight on the Church. It's still business as usual. If not for survivors and The Boston Globe Spotlight, there'd be far more victims. Michael Rezendes was the point-man that Mark Ruffalo played very well. I saw this movie four times, it's that great of a movie.

I FIND IT INTERESTING THAT THE MALE ANCHOR THAT IS COMMENTING ABOUT SEX ABUSE IS AN ABUSER HIMSELF... THIS IS JUST SHAMEFUL... HOW MANY HAVE HAD TO LIVE WITH PAIN AND TRAUMA BECAUSE OF ALL THE CORRUPTS AND DISGUSTING GROUPS OF PEOPLE WITH NO MORAL STANDINGS...

In a way though the film Spotlight actually started the rumblings of the #MeToo movement. It was filmed right when Bill Cosby was being accused again. With people coming out about the RCC abuse people started coming out in Hollywood about other abuse.

SBakerNYC i know this comment was from 2 years ago but since some people might read it, i disagree. This story was from 2000, so mark copied mike’s hairstyle from that era and im pretty sure he asked around mike’s colleagues about what mike’s really like when he was younger. I also read somewhere that mark would ask mike to read his every line to make sure that it sounded right. This is my humble opinion, anyway

it wasn't that great. The source material was important, and the performances were engaging and thus the film merits viewing, but it is not a great film by any stretch. But while the topic is hot, let's remember that a Catholic newspaper reported on this in 1985 and was ignored, and there is a much more engaging, incredible story out there about a group called the Legion of Christ. You want to take down scams posing as religion, that is ground zero, and the material is so crazy you couldn't make it up.

I thought it was a really good and important film. But real credit goes to the spotlight team. I'm sure they were threatened during their investigation.
