It's not that she simply "got drunk and slept with people." It's the fact that she went on such a bender that she forgot what day it was (which likely means that she'd been doing this all weekend) and, worse, she took advantage of at least two interns of dubious legal age from her company. That's not only irresponsible and dangerous, it's outright predatory. As for her ex going for custody? Of course he is. The daughter doesn't want to have anything to do with her due to the constant neglect from her mother over the years, and now this. She's looking to the only father she's ever known for the safety and stability and love that her mother seems incapable of providing. And she's _their daughter._ He adopted her. Her mother would eventually (if not immediately) want to take her to the sperm donor. I don't trust either biological parent to actually do right by that child. Story #1: This is the point where someone needs to put their foot down and make a hard decision. Once her friend got comfortable enough to ask her to open the relationship, she either needs to shut him out, or OP needs to break up with her. Second story: the marriage died, the husband wanted to work on their marriage, the wife just wasn’t interested and checked out, sounds like he was mostly caring for their daughter, he was at home all the time, and he got fed up, exhausted and decided he needed better in life. Alice might be going through a rough time, and she might love her daughter but it does sound like she’s self absorbed, she never considered her family, just the way OP has described her is very self absorbed and doesn’t care about the needs of her family, but OP doesn’t see that. It sucks, but OP needed her eyes opened regarding her friend. Alice might’ve been a good person once upon a time but it just sounds like OP has been completely blind to these issues. Alice’s ex husband deserves better, her daughter deserves better, she’s behaving vilely, and whilst you wanna support and help your friend you cannot force her to change, you cannot force her to behave differently, you cannot force her to get help. Story 2: I've seen similar stories play out in other relationships. The dynamics of the relationships shift and the person previously dependent on the other partner suddenly becomes the "bread winner" in the relationship. They then believe they should indulge themselves more because they see themselves as having more importance in the relationship, this leads into wildly different behaviors, cheating and treating your partner like shit because they no longer see them as having the same values. My theory is it stems from getting into a relationship with someone due to needing security above all else rather them valuing them as a complete person. With OPs ex friend, I bet she was looking for a new father and provider rather than a complete relationship. But once she started making more money and wasn't dependent on her husband, the thing that made their relationship work was no longer there. She may have cared for him, but their relationship was built on something that no longer existed. No foundation left means the relationship was bound to crumble. Also, she definitely sounds like an alcoholic.

Here's what's almost certainly going to happen in no particular order: 1. .Ken will get the house and custody. He'll dismantle the hot tub. 2. . Alice will get fired. You don't just jump to "interns in the hot tub at my home". She had to have been doing other people at work and that's going to catch up to her, especially since she's doing subordinates 3. She'll move back to Seattle with the abusive AH and pretty much cut contact with ex and daughter. 4. 5-10 years down the road, she'll return bruised and battered after baby daddy throws her out and try to reestablish a relationship with ex and daughter. Also, if she's extending these "business trips" for personal reasons, she might also end up in legal trouble for padding her expense reports with unnecessary food and lodging charges. Story 1: I gotta give a neurodivergent perspective on this (i have adhd and autism) With Autism at least, it can be really hard to learn what is appropriate and what isnt. Its not obvious to us and doesnt come naturally. We can learn, but that requires observing lots of people, or someone to sit us down and express very clearly what the problem is. If somebody hangs around in a social circle where they just ignore it, theres a good chance the person will not learn. This kinda behaviour was super normal to me as well , and hell i was even guilty of it too, and it wasnt until i listened to more women talking about their scary experiences with men that i understood. I'm friends with a neurodivergent individual. Unfortunately, he's crossed my boundary more than a few times and I'm frustrated to no end. I've communicated several times what I can and cannot handle and what is and is not appropriate, and while he's listened a bit it's not enough. Recently I've told him I'm going through a LOT and cannot communicate with him, and I do not want to talk about what is going on, and that I just need space to deal with it all. He has been calling me and texting me nonstop still and telling me that my absence is causing him anxiety and he is there for me when I want to talk. I understand he's there, but I need my space and we've discussed that others aren't responsible for how he deals with his anxiety. I cannot and will not sacrifice my mental health to reassure him that I'm ok... because right now, I'm not ok but I will be. I feel badly, but I cannot deal with this dependency and will not tolerate it.

Story #2 A true friend holds you accountable for your bad behavior especially when there is a child being hurt. Alice needs a full psych evaluation and medical check up if her actions are completely different than her usual behavior. If there were hints of this insanity over the years, then she is just nasty from birth and you have to cut her off. Still keep in touch with the spouse and child. They will need friends during the hard times.

Sir, from the title alone: she learnt he wants to push you into an open relationship, which you are not comfortable with, that this makes you extremely uncomfortable, and she’s still totally okay with him being around? I’d be thinking that relationship fella, I’d also be questioning whether there’s something going on affair wise. However when you describe what’s happening, how he’s tried and failed to try and date her, how she’s completely aware of his romantic feelings he has for her, that she’s never nipped this in the bud and telling him straight up “we will never date, I am not interested in you romantically, stop orbiting and trying to ask me out.” It’s especially creepy knowing he told you and your girlfriend, to your faces, that he wanted an open relationship to sleep with her specifically. She also told you to leave and go to the car, and is telling you “this is just how he is.” I’m neurodivergent, my autism and other disabilities are not an excuse to sexually harass others, I do not get to use my disabilities as a shield like that, I’m responsible for my own actions. Your relationship, whilst it sounds like you care for her, is ultimately doomed. Everyone has accepted Jeff being a sexual harasser, they seem to think it’s normal, it’s extremely unhealthy and I’d be leaving NOW. It’s worrying that she is totally fine with this behaviour, her friends also give it the green light. I would not have discussed Jeff with Emily except for the first time. If she had kept being friends with him, I would have broken up with Emily. I Guarantee you, if Emily's BF had a female friend that Emily did not like, he would not be allowed within 1/2 a mile of her. First of all, if your significant other has a guy friend and hangs out with him without you around, break up with her right then if she does not stop hanging around him with you not around. You cannot control her and make her stop seeing him, you can only break up and relieve yourself of the mental anxiety. She found and married a guy who would be her daughter's parent for her, and as soon as she had enough money and time to do so she started behaving like a "single lady" whenever she could. I do feel for op as it is likely that the fact she helped look after Alice so many times in the past made her feel protective of her, and thus when her behavior changed and became unhinged she still felt that she could help her. Sadly she cannot, and this is the real her that op never wanted to accept.
