I went to private school on scholarship so I had some rich classmates. I never missed a birthday party, except when I got sick the night before my best friends. My favorite part was picking a present the kid would like (I still love gift giving). So sad to hear so many stories about no kid showing up.

Why so he can complain about working 12 hrs, come home to a mess, and no healthy food to eat. To me it sounds like dude wasn't helping his wife/baby mama out and just gave her 100% of housewife and mom duties.

Why do men keep having children with women incapable of taking care of the babies or having an adult relationship with him? The ex is as much at fault as OP's lazy ass SIL. Why does a man choose a horrible family member over his own family? OP was way too patient. I hope OP wises up and leaves her useless husband, too. Oh, and call CPS on the SIL if she stays. Those kids deserve better.

Many years ago, I saw something similar where a little boy in Chucky Cheese had a birthday do and none of his friends turned up. His mom was in a corner in tears, the shift manager who just got in, gauged the sadness and was on her phone non stop and soon TONS of kids came in and filled the section reserved by the boys mother for the little boy birthday party. That little boy had the greatest smile. Props to Portland, Oregon Chucky Cheese for hiring such a kind hearted lady.

Story 1 The classic “you don’t have a x problem, you have a boyfriend/husband problem.” Get a lawyer and start the eviction progress. Seriously, all the woman had to do was clean and cook. Spaghetti, Stir Fry, Shepard’s Pie, Rotisserie chicken and with heated up frozen veggies… It is not that hard to make a simple bowl for dinner. It is also not hard to wash dishes-soak in warm water, get a sponge and soap, and then wipe it until all the food stuff is gone.

Aw it's so heartwarming that all the other kids showed up and made the little guy feel special, in the Halloween party story too. i heard about these parties from reddit that they invite the whole class and it seems to be a low priority for the kids and parents to come, maybe because that would mean there are so many of them. When I was a kid we'd only be allowed to ask around 8 kids and you'd make special invites and it made the kids feel special, they always really wanted to come.

I had 3 kids by 21 (bc pills failed, latex allergy and wasn't "allowed" a tubal due to age, number of kids, and no husband/partner to "approve" it 🙄). I had my own place, but on the rare occasion I had to stay at a DV shelter or with a friend, I made sure my presence was near nonexistent. I cleaned their house, had my kids at a park or going for walks, etc. I was terrified of being a 'burden. I do not understand the laziness these ppl have to leave their messes and kids for others to deal with. My son, DIL and sagoinisi live with us temporarily and she's VERY pregnant with #2 (oops baby). She cleans the kitchen and living room, sometimes bathroom and it's greatly appreciated. I don't require of others what I require from myself, though. She really just has to focus on growing the squish and caring for sagoinisi because everyone works. That SIL would've been out so fast.

I also loved the story in the comments about having the idea to invite the children of all the domestic workers when the "posh" kids all flaked, and how it turned into a huge highlight for all of these children. These stories never seem real. And then I remember my own hell that is very similar to this story. Years ago when my husband and I were first married and active duty military, we both got orders to deploy. Since we had no children yet, we didn't go thru the process of not being deployed at the same time so that one of us was always home. We had a dog and our house was a rental with option to buy when we came back home. We'd have enough to pay cash for the house and it was our dream home. My dad had our pup and all was well until MIL approached us about a month into our deployments with an idea for SIL (his sister) to stay in the house because she was down on her luck. She'd pay utilities and our pup could come back home instead of being with my dad 3 hours away, and someone would be there to care for the place. Perfect, right? Husband and I came off deployment within 3 days of each other and he waited in the town I was flying back into, then we came home together. We didn't want to spend a penny extra on anything because we were about to hand over + $150k in a few days for the house, so we drove the 22 hours home straight thru instead of flying. We were exhausted and just wanted to relax with our dog and spend the evening in the hot tub. As soon as we stepped out of the car in our garage, we smelled the strongest, foulest odor. It was coming from the house. My stomach dropped because I knew what I'd find when we went inside, but oh me, oh my it was SO much worse. My SIL got heavy into drugs while we were gone and literally turned our home into a drug flop house. At least a dozen junkies were passed out all over the floor. We literally stepped over a dead body in the living room, she died from an overdose. My SIL was in our bedroom, which had been locked and off limits while she was staying there, nodding off with a tourniquet still on her arm. The house was literally destroyed. Instead of buying the home, the owner was so pissed when she came by for a random inspection a day before we came home that she yanked the option to buy from us, demanded we break the lease and pay to restore the house, and in return she will not sue us for damages. She put her blood, sweat, and tears into this home with renovations and everything, just before we rented it. The only reason she rented the home was she was getting married and her fiance's home was big enough for their blended families. She alone had teenage triplets. Her house wasn't large enough for his 4 children that he had sole custody of. My MIL had seen what she was doing to the house and kept quiet about it and let her continue on. The damage to the house was right around $150k, just about every penny we had. So we were literally broke with no place to go. My FIL and MIL also refused to take us in. I still cry sometimes when I think about it although that was close to 20 years ago. The owner did give us a good recommendation because she realized it wasn't our fault and she gave the ok to let SIL stay there, but she was devastated because she did all the renovations to her home by herself. It was a source of pride for her and once she calmed down she told us we could pay her back in installments, but we chose to make her whole because it was the right thing to do. She still wouldn't sell to us because we'd have given her the original purchase price and fix it ourselves over time, but she refused. That house was her baby. It took her 5 years to renovate it singlehandedly after her husband died and was left as a single mother. They had planned the reno work and were going to do it together, and then he was killed in a car accident. Soon after she completed the house she met her fiance. Completing the house was very meaningful to her on account of her husband and his death. Ok, so this long novel was written just to say that yes, people like this really do exist. The owner of the house was very picky on who she rented or sold to because she wanted to feel as if they would love and care for it as she did. Seeing it destroyed was so devastating for her.

It got so incredibly toxic that I just kicked her out regardless of her tenant rights. The SIL was allowed to not learn adulting. Which includes cooking cleaning driving childcare. When offered free cooking lessons AFTER having 2 children-she refuses. At least she took the kids with her when she left. I was afraid you’d get stuck with the toddlers as well. I taught my kid how to happily do chores with no stress even when she was very young! I showed her how she could run her own laundry at age 5 so if she wanted something clean-she could have it right away. She pretty much always did her own after that. Zero griping.. When my daughter came home one day in 3rd grade she told me “MOM! Mom, did you know a Bunch of kids my age don’t know how to do ANYTHING?! Like you know I don’t Loooove doing chores, but honestly I feel sorry for them! They don’t even know how to cook anything, or vacuum or run the dishwasher or do laundry!!! Like A nyyhhthing!” They had been talking about all that. LOL. And sadly that continues in some families. I had a college roommate rich enough to have an indoor pool at their house who I had to teach to make macaroni and cheese! Her dad paid for her tuition but wanted her to learn to support herself so she had to work thru college. My parents were never supportive-used me as a child slave and were done paying for anything by when I left at 17. This is why I NEVER LOADED chores on my kid but made sure she knew how to reasonably be responsible for herself at all ages. She is grown now.

The man with the gf that helped his brother. Here is a suggestion... instead of a birthday party. What we did was give 3 selections to the bday boy and let him pick 1 of those things and we did as a family. The bday boy had the option to bring a friend. Less money spent (most of the time), fun activity, family bonding time. Also no hurt feelings if no one came to party. I loved those times with the boys.

Story about messy SIL. OP, as the house belongs to you as well (I assume you put some money towards its built) you can give an ultimatum to your husband- you or your SIL - with additional ultimatum of wanting half of the value of the house. You both will have to sell it, or he will have to buy you out. Add to it he will have to pay child support and spousal support as I assume you won't be able to work and the money you will get from him for the house will be spend on the house/apartment for you and your baby. In summary your husband will have to fork out on 1. child support 2. spousal support 3. new place for you and your baby (and if he doesn't sell the house) 4. upkeep of the present house (mortgage, bills) 5. founding/looking after his sister's and her children lifestyle. I hope he has at least 7-figure income or win lottery.

You must’ve thought of a different story because the sister does none of that. Even when I was in the sister’s predicament I knew too at least clean up after my kids and self in other’s home especially if they are housing and feeding me for free and that’s literally all I have to do. The sister isn’t even working (unlike her I was). Also, unlike her I was told stay as long as needed but I gave myself overnight the weekend / a couple days the max was 2 weeks until I can get my affairs in order to go into a family shelter and get on my feet. It took me awhile but I did it. I followed the shelter’s rules within reason. Worked and put in application for apartments or places that’s rented. While still making sure I pop a TV dinner in the oven or Mac n cheese and chicken nuggets to feed both me and mines. Remember I was a young parent (older teen parent/just became legal to even drink) but I knew the basic responsibilities for being a parent. And I still deal with my mental health.

Story number one, depending on where you live at if they are receiving mail there they can put up a fight to where you have to legally evict them! I would know my brother called the cops on me in my own home because I asked him to move out within 30 days. The commenter(not sure if you're male or female, sorry) that mentioned his brother having a "odd toxic" relationship with his sister and allowing her to live in his apartment even though she is mean and violent to his wife who is from a foreign country, oh and that the sister has a drug addiction, sounds to me like he has Amber Heard's long lost identical twin sister living with him and his poor wife. I hope your SIL grows a shiny spine and walks away from that crap, sometimes I think being homeless is better than living with certain family members, and 100% mean that.

Story 1: so u called the ex bf asked what happened he told you and your response was to do nothing with this info? ESH you knew she's a bad mother terrible home maker and allowed her in the home without setting clear expectations that if she isn't going to do it on her own you will make her be a mother and an adult and if she doesn't like it she can leave Now ur suffering the kids are suffering the husband's suffering and the one person responsible just does nothing

Story 1: LMBO!!! She is a nasty mess of a baby momma but I let her move in with us. She didn't go into that blindly, she knew what her SIL was and who she was. She still allowed her to move in with them and that is on her.

The last story has me crying from the original story to the replies about other kids parties. My son is 5 now and every party my husband & I freak out that no one will come(his family is very bad at RSVP & he just started school) or we won’t be able to get his bio dad/step mom & sibling on the video call(in another state). It scares me now and his birthday is months away
