Wow so many of these people know nothing about early pregnancy risks or what attempting to drive during an ice storm would be like. My entire city was just closed down and most people lost power for days. Driving anywhere would have been an extreme risk.

People need to remember that during the first trimester a woman's body is growing a tiny human being cell by cell. Pregnancy is NOT like dealing with your period. Just because you can't see the baby bump doesn't mean that it's no big deal. Being pregnant is a "normal" bodily function. Well so is needing to pee but would you make someone just wait to go to the bathroom?

Pregnancy stuck in snow story: Coming from someone who lives in Wisconsin its 100% understandable to have to miss one day of work due to snow/ice covered roads, pregnant or not! Everyone saying she's TA or is one of those "oh pregnancy is so rough the wind blew ouch" people really makes me mad. Never been pregnant but I've called into work due to snow. It's happens. "Oh how are you going to get to the hospital to have your baby if you can't drive I the snow" yes because she is likely to have her baby in the winter while being pregnant in the winter... NOT! She will likely give birth in the warmer months. Seriously calling in due to snow has nothing to do with her pregnancy and yall make it sound like she told her boss the baby was the reason she couldn't come in. It happens. If there's an emergency in the winter well then call an ambulance. That's literally their job. SMH people, for real?!

Unpopular opinion. As someone who was helping care for Nana when she had dementia. It's exhausting. You're watching a loved one suffer is brutal and is made SO MUCH worse when you're that mentally and physically burned out. OP's reaction is so understandable. Do I think that he handled it well? No. Do I understand why? Hell yes. Would I have handled it differently? I did. OP needs to find some help (he may not know what's available) but he's going to be useless to everyone who needs him if he burns himself out. I feel for him. The decision he made probably tore at him emotionally.

For the OP burned out on caring for his terminally ill wife: don't know what country you live in. If in the US, hospice care for your wife either at home or in a facility is an option. That story about the husband who didn't want to take his wife with colon cancer home, it reminded me of my grandmother's time on hospice before she died. She was a deplorable, nasty, disgusting, and angry woman, and she drained the life out of my grandfather who took care of her hand and foot while she berated him for doing nothing for her and would threaten to call the police for "Abusing" her (He never did.) until he, a war veteran, would break down crying. She was a narcissist and emotionally abusive her entire life. I side with this husband, because i know what it's like having a horrible family member who honestly can't die fast enough. She died in 2019 and I still have nightmares where she actually survived and ruins everything she gets a hold of. All the YTA takes have never been in an abusive situation where the abuser is the one who's dying and a person can't physically keep surviving in a situation that requires them to care for someone who's cruel to them, which is where the husband sounds like he's at. It's the kind of situation who can drive someone to suicide just to escape it. I don't blame him in the slightest for washing his hands of that so that he can breathe.

Regarding the proper harvesting story...most cultivars in gardens barely resemble their natural wild type cousin. We have bred these things to a razor's edge to maximize a combination of qualities that suit our purposes. This has nothing to do with survival of the fittest in nature, and is a form of coevolution, like flowers and hummingbird beaks. Potatoes were never as large as they are now in the wild, we bred them to be so. Now like a domesticated house cat they require our care to survive. I wonder what a potato farm, abandoned before harvest, would look like in another hundred uears though. Would the survivors ultimately end up being the small ones, or would there be survivors given the number of things that might violate them? Bugs, animals, diseases, draught, it might not be pretty.
@Raigius
@Raigius 3 жыл бұрын
In regards to the plants not surviving in nature if they die from improper harvesting. Most of our food crops have been selectively bred for so many generations that they have little to no resemblance to their original wild counterparts. We cultivate our crops to maximize their productivity / usefulness to us. Not to maximize their survival capabilities outside of a careful regulated human cultivated environment.

24:09 it's really ironic when people write: I know caregiver burn out is a real thing, BUT... but nothing, the moment you say "but" is when you have just confessed "I don't know a thing about caregiver burn out". It leads to suicide. so quick that you won't even know what hit you. When the guy is dumping his wife on the system, it means the system didn't help him out enough. I know first hand about caregiver burn out. In his case, a social worker needs to reach out, and give him all the options that he has. depending on where he is, and what cost coverage resources there are, he might have done the absolute right thing. Here in Canada, when it comes to palliative patients and their primary caregivers, there are enough resources that almost no one needs to do what this guy did but guess what? Primary caregivers still burn out and commit suicide. so NO. op is not the asshole.

I don't agree with the OP leaving his wife at the hospital, but I understand why he did it. There is a reason why many caregivers die before their loved one...they burn out and get seriously sick. Until you have looked after someone like that with no time for self, you won't. My mother had heart attacks and at least one stroke (among other health issues) looking after my late father. There comes a point when you don't have the physical strength to keep doing it. Add a loved one who cannot help being angry and all you have is stress 24/7. You end up mourning before they die. You give until you are a shell of your formal self. I ended up moving in with my parents and helped out. My dad was scary sometimes because his anger would come out of no where and my mom was afraid he would hurt her until his personality changed again. OP hasn't had the support he needs. He needs to go to a support group to deal with what his family is experiencing and respite workers so he can get a break. It isn't cheap. It is not a cut and dried thing. When a room became available at the nursing home he had been waiting for, he was in a frame of mind to decide to move. In some ways it was a relief, but he had been such a vibrant part of the family, that life has never been the same. He passed a year and a half ago and we still mourn him. Op's choice comes from a place of desperation that many people cannot understand. He needs support, not ridicule. Not support for leaving her there, but for going through caregiving alone too long. Better support systems keeps patients in need of hospice care home longer. His wife needs a social worker who can give them support options and have his wife help with the decisions.

39:43 So OP and hubby have looked into having a baby because it hasn't "just happened" for them for a long enough span that they started to wonder. Likely took some adjusting, then they threw out whatever protection they had left, because... hey, we just aren't fertile. Then... pregnant! Middle of winter, bad weather happens, and this just happens to be when those few cells have begun to multiply into a small cluster. An ice storm rolls in, and it is dangerous enough that driving in to work is hazardous. 8 weeks isn't far along in a pregnancy. Many pregnancies self-end before the third month, 4 more weeks away. If they lose this pregnancy, chances aren't good that they will have another. I completely get her coworkers being frustrated that they will have to work harder because she can't make it into work. Well, this HAPPENS in bad weather, pregnant or not. Happened to me this winter, and I'm past menopause. No babies ever for me, other than four-footed ones. Snarking to her about it on her FB wasn't cool. Private roads are a B when the snow falls more than a couple of inches. Three snow-heavy winters back, I lived down a LONG private road, and it was a beast that winter, coming and going to work. Got SO lucky to make a connection with a guy willing to plough it on my "Friday," because I got stuck in the snow MOST of the way down that private road on the way home. The guy made it late the next day, and work tried to call me in. I had to tell them my car got stuck, and I can't promise to make it in, they should try someone else. More or less told my boss I was glad that, if I had to get stuck in the snow, at least it happened on my Friday, so I wasn't missing work I was scheduled to do. Private roads that the city doesn't manage in winter storms suck. Most of us don't have snow plough setups. Or a truck we can have a plough setup added to. Or even 4-wheel drives. Why are so many people down on OP for not risking life and limb to go to work? =Adults= die under these conditions, when they push to drive under such conditions. In most areas, snow and ice happen. Many of those places they only happen for a very few weeks at most. This means most people don't go for trucks and SUVs that are built to handle snow/ice better, they go for something either pretty, cheap, or something with good gas mileage. When it's only a short span of each year that suffers from these extreme conditions... I'd rather suck it up and miss those days of work if I can't safely make it in. Not worth my life.

No one ounce of sympathy for the husband who says he cannot carry the burden of caring for his sick wife, his children and the house as well as work all day by himself. I live in one of these areas. Unfortunately, It is because it's the most affordable part of town. I also live in a city where it rarely snows, but it is always icy when it does. So my city does not make a major effort to clear it. I can't imagine someone saying "yeah, you're an AH for not having a fortune to move to a place where there is less ice and better services.

As a person that is 6'2" and 120ish lbs the story at 1:56:53 really got to me. I get constant backhanded comments from my coworkers and classmates at school and I make it look like it doesn't affect me but it really does just hurt in a different way than say a "regular insult". I try and brush it off and even when I say "Can you not please?" they just say "I'm not calling you fat what's the problem?". Backhanded and demeaning comments are just that. No matter what. The people in that story are egregious and deplorable. Especially from the boss lady

Ok, I know it's like super late but for the woman stuck in the snow story: she is completely NTA for not risking her life for a job. As someone who lives in an area where it gets icy every year no matter what it's unreasonable to say to move or find a new job. People spin out when driving 10 down an icy road and it's super dangerous. Snow tires are not as effective on ice as they are on snow, you can still spin out even with them. I've had many accounts on almost spinning out when I would drive down the road to my job which is 3 minutes away. It's fine that she called in to protect herself and there are many ways to get rid of ice. Salt, plowing, hot water+salt, many ways but for a private drive those tend to be long so it's more reasonable to get it plowed. Don't try to make it seem like it's an easy solution as it's not, ice sucks on roads and then you also have to account for black ice, slush, and snow fall. It's crazy

It's amazing how much hate pregnant women get just for caring about their unborn babies. If she wasn't pregnant, I'm pretty sure a lot of the commenters who were criticizing her would have been on her side. It's also amazing how ignorant people are and how they like to pretend that a pregnancy isn't a big deal until the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Tch. I really hope OP reported both of her coworkers to HR so that they can be dealt with accordingly.

Sisters: she wanted to steal stuff in your house. If you were totally shocked that she wanted to spend the night THAT night and she didn’t will give you time to hide all of your checks and credit cards and a place to lock up your purse, then that’s what she was after. Then she would probably say well I’m gonna ask mom and dad if I can stay there. ( and wipe them out )

The comments about the pregnant woman that isn’t doing her job surprised me. She’s literally only 10 weeks, if she cannot do her job and do it well then she should not be working. It’s not fair to the company to be paying her a wage if she’s not doing her job, and it is not fair for all the other employees to have to pick up her slack. I’ve had two kids and I would never use my pregnancy or even my children as an excuse to not do my job.

RE: the pregnant woman and the icy roads. Markee, I don't know how far ahead you make each video before posting, but HAVE YOU PAID ANY ATTENTION TO THE NEWS ABOUT THE ICE AND SNOWSTORM IN TEXAS???? There are people still without food or water because of this storm? Snow tires or chains? These are things foreign to Texans. I have a friend in San Antonio. The other day, the temperature outside was 9F. (-13C) A few days later, the temp rose to 63F (17C). She was lucky because they have a generator and could a few appliances. They have a regular sedan car. They don't need an SUV for snowstorms. I'm Canadian, from Alberta. I have lived with the ice and snow and cold all of my life., about 6 months of the year. I have an accident free record after nearly 50 years of driving. I am not stupid enough to go out when the roads are like this. Give this woman and her husband a break. I think you owe them an apology.

1:37:00 about the brother handing his wedding invitations at his sister in laws funeral. I was disgusted when his family claimed the widow was ruining the the families reputation by kicking out the brother when the brother was the one who ruined their reputation by acting like an a$$ during the funeral and handing out wedding invitations!!! I can't stand it when people claim you're ruining the family's reputation when they are the ones who have ruined it by their behavior. You haven't ruined it by putting your foot down and refusing to tolerate the behavior. This whole story makes me so angry. It's a manipulation technique.

Daughter of cyber stocker, you need to get a good IT person to do all of the things he or she thinks will keep your dad out. Like firewalls or whatever they call them now. If you have a credit card sometimes they offer identity protection. You might find a company that keeps an eye on your title of your house. Lock down everything like that. Ask your mom about what he did with her accounts. Maybe change phones and numbers.

You don’t drive on ice. Period. It’s incredibly dangerous even with specialized vehicles. I live in Portland, and we have an ice storm probably every other year, and we only get a dusting of snow most years, but every five years or so, we get 6+ inches. All of these things can shut down schools and mess up traffic, and people from colder states like Minnesota and Wisconsin will tease us about the snow response, but they NEVER tease us about the ice. They won’t drive on it either. The Portland metro is covered in hills, and many of us can’t leave our driveways in ice, or we would slide into the center of a main road if we tried to leave our streets. You definitely don’t bully a coworker because their street was too dangerous and yours was navigable.

so infuriating that anyone would even consider the woman the ahole for not driving on ice. I also live in a town that is the last priority, I understand not being plowed till last minute. the reason we're not buying a car that's suitable or moving somewhere different is because who the f has money for that? plus, storms where the roads get GENUINELY so bad you can't drive to work, are only a few times a winter. it happens. why on earth is everyone ripping into her for saying it's because she's pregnant?? she wouldn't have done it either way because?????? she just has other priorities right now and this baby is probably the most precious thing in the world to her. reddit usually is SO "don't put yourself in danger for minimum wage" but the second she says it's about her baby, not herself, everyone's like? nahh ur terrible. if she hadn't mentioned the pregnancy, the vote would have been different. people are just salty that she's already so protective over this baby that is probably one of the best things that has ever and will ever happen to her. she's allowed to he obsessive, overprotective. if she miscarries, the chance of this happening again is basically 0

Yes if seeing OP dressing up feminine upsets her, she has the right to either still come or not come. but her mean comments and stuff is wrong and the brother not saying or doing anything makes him YTA, and him using his son as a weapon against his parents makes them a even bigger YTA. he should have quit his job to take care of her, when they lose everything, "well, i had to take care of mom, and the insurance wont help" (i have seen this happen, it was sad but... having lived it and seen it happen a few times...) i cant agree with the the "YTA" people, i watched my mother do this for her mother and the tool it took... looking back... i have good memories of her mother, but also, remember how nasty she became, how the ONLY sibling or family members willing to help would burn out after 2-3 visits leaving it to her, the system eventually provided some support but... not much, they all pushed it off on her, she quit working and just took care of this woman who was rarely lucid, nasty, rude and violent when awake, she wont admit it but, its been many decades and she still has mental scars from it... its not nice, its not pretty... but the kids CANNOT DO THIS, and often insurance companies WILL NOT give you in home aid/support, and getting govt aid... again he could quit his job and live on what the govt will pay him to be her 24/7 caregiver, it wont pay the bills in most cases but, he wont be abandoning her. and, in our case, she would not even consider a nursing home, the rare true lucid times... she would just start yelling if even in home care aids were mentioned... i watched this with 2 friends when their mothers went threw this (dads both dad long time by this point), and it really just drains you, one nearly killed herself taking stuff to stay awake so every time mom yelled, they could get there and address it so nobody could complain of call her a bad daughter anymore... as the people above and below moms appt kept doing any time she screamed or yelled even when in home support was taking care of her and my friend was still trying to work and take care of mom... she quit working and dedicated her life to her mom like everybody said... she had a heartattack and minor stroke... and still had people calling her a bad daughter for not taking care of mom when she herself was in the hosp, her family, friends, the people in moms building where she moved because, she didnt have time to ever go to her own place so why pay for it? so she moved into moms and just, never left, not for 9mo... didnt even have time to talk on the phone, mom would ALWAYS start yelling... and NOBODY would help... in home support would quit withing 2-4 days because of how mom acted, and then weeks before the could find somebody else... and she couldnt leave or even actually sleep even with them there because if mom wanted her/started yelling for her, the only way to make it stop was to go and let mom berate her till she felt satisfied... that gal... is till.. to be kind... broken from it... she rarely smiles, just sits and broods on how it was all her fault mom didnt have a happier longer life, because that is what everybody drilled into her... if she had just done better... even with therapy and her friends and, "new-family" (shes totally divorced herself from the people she grew up with and around due to how they treated her...one aunt tried to get her fired from her min-wage job, the only job she could get after years of no employment despite her degrees and past work experience... even her old employer just blinked and said with that kinda gap, they had no proof she hadnt been in jail/prison/on drugs/etc... or that she could or would be reliable as an employee... she just eventually ate it and got a min wage job... and... only got one in her field when her boyfriend(now husband) started applying for her, talking to potential employers and letting them know the deal for her... getting her interviews... she was happy but also... just cant manage a genuine smile anymore... makes me sad... she was genuinely somebody whos happy smile could brighten a day.... now... she tries and it makes you sad.. but hey, at least she stuck it out... didnt let the pressure or even her own health get in the way of doing the right thing... so what if joy has forever left her life, thats the price you sometimes pay for doing the right thing.

First, pregnancy is not a "normal bodily function." Breathing or excreting waste are "normal bodily functions," not producing human beings. Pregnancy comes with huge risk, extreme pain, remarkable changes in the body, etc. It's a pretty...extreme bodily function, one which can get screwed up pretty easily. She's suffering in ways OP probably can't comprehend, yet the argument is that women are supposed to go through all of that while behaving and functioning normally...and that's what we call equality? First-wave feminists fought for voting rights, property ownership, the right to take part in society through education and work, to not be labeled "hysterical" when in pain, etc. To suggest they fought so that their bosses could exploit them at work while horribly ill is just nefariously manipulating the whole concept of feminism against women. Absolutely repulsive. The entire work culture expressed in this story is disgusting. Unless this is a worker-owned co-op from which they're all going to share in the incredible profits, no one needs to be sacrificing their life for some corporation just to support themselves.

With the twin thing,I kind of get it. My husbands last name is very uncommon (like really only his family in Europe and immediate family have it). My brother in law lives with his gf in another area of our country and they posted a video of them going to a local landmark that had a lot of historical significance to the people from that area and did some disrespectful stuff (and went in place they were not allowed to be as well) and it blew up and they got in a lot of trouble for it (lost jobs and on the news and stuff). I work for a small company and my manager is from that area and her cultural heritage is tied to that area. She heard about it before I even did and asked me if this was my brother in law. She knew he lived there and recognized the last name. If she wasn’t so cool about it and didn’t know me so well, this could have been very bad for me. Obviously a little different from looking like someone, but it could have reflected so badly on me and I’ll probably never be able to visit that landmark because of my last name.

Meh, I don't think the gay guy was being misogynistic. The only reason he said anything about her womb was because she was all !!! But I won't get grand kids! Which is super selfish af. He could still adopt, or have a woman carry. No one is a baby factory and no one should be expected to have kids for their extended family/spouse etc. He only went there because she did. I imagine Op was bit emotional over being rejected by his mother over his sexuality and realizing his mother didn't really care about anything other than grandkids, not him as an individual. Some people can choose to kill with kindness approach, forgive, be super caring no matter what, but there's no real end benefit. People should be treated how they treat others. If you are an ah to others, people should be an ah to you. Why should ah be expected to be treated well regardless of their own behavior?! That's how you get entitled Karens. Justified ah. I'm 100% okay with people returning justified heat. Btw, female here. So, not misogynistic just because I disagree with others opinions.

Agreed. And the rest of her team needs to f off and pick up her slack, she's legit sick and it's not her fault, therefore they need to fill in where she's failing. She didn't ask for a hard pregnancy, so everyone else needs to pitch in and deal with it for her cyz it wouldn't be fair for her to deal with her own misfortune herself. Lifes not fair and I feel for the multiple other people who are not getting special treatment and are forced to do more, while someone else collects a paycheck for doing less. I feel for the pregnant woman but how exactly is that 9 others people's responsibility to clean up after her?
