15:36 "why would it slip" explination. Whenever you move the character up and miss a grab, you will "slip" downward, on any surface, even if you are holding grab. (you can test this by violently flinging the character around and see you have now moved elsewhere) On narrow pieces like that, including the times you fell on the waterfall section, were due to this mechanic. To counteract this mechanic you need to slow your characters descent after a failed attempt.

If you look closely, you can see why the character has those "random let go" moments. Doesn't look like the character has an absolute perfect grip anywhere and can slide if enough force is applied. So, when you stay long enough in one spot bouncing and swinging, trying to reach the next target, your hand might slip off what you were grabbing onto. You can see this while you were swinging across that massive gap at the start when your character would lurch forward a bit before you let go. Just go slowly and youll be fine.
@Nickuh889 ай бұрын
I was beginning to think there was stamina for holding on with one hand...it'd make sense considering it's not easy to support your entire body weight with just one... Mark didn't really start to have issues until he started trying to reach for particular grabs. Seems trying too long causes the arm to let go
@itsty-ler9 ай бұрын
@@Nickuh88 i wouldn't say stamina, but there's definitely a weight and max force system for gripping
@EStramel099 ай бұрын
@@Nickuh88Not really stamina. If you move the character too much, the grip will slide down. If it slides down too far, then that’s when you fall. You can see it when Mark tries a jump where he has to swing around a lot or really reach for it. His grip slowly slides down the rock(you can see it at 14:33). If he stopped every now and then and readjust his grip, I’m he wouldn’t fall as much on the reaching parts(like at the hand)

by far Marks biggest weakness is the concept of your two bst attempts being the first one, and the last one. Essentially, the learning curve is not just a straight line from the bottom to the top, no, chances are, your first attempt would be very close, just not close enough. That's because in the first attempt you don't know what to expect, and just trust your istincts. However, once you actually start to learn, it would seem like you're doing worse and worse, and you hit the bottom roughly in the middle of your learning progress. After that, you'll start getting better and better, eventually surpasing your first attempt and winning, because all those "bad" attempts were you actually learning what you're oing and practicing. But Mark clearly doesn't like this consept)

I feel this, and experienced it for myself learning a fighting game where I did surprisingly well against my friend who was already good at the game (go like 3-5), thought "hey maybe I'm kinda good at this", did some practice and whatnot, suddenly get destroyed by that very same friend the next times we play (go like 1-10), get confused and even annoyed that I'm somehow worse despite what I've learned, practice for even _longer_, and finally reach a point where I can dominate against that same friend (go like 10-3). Looking back on it, it's possible I was trying too hard to apply what I've "learned" even in situations where I shouldn't, second guessing myself because my beginner instincts were conflicting with the things I'm trying to do with intent, and/or getting complacent because I think "oh I know this one already". It wasn't until I did a serious deep dive into the mechanics of the game, drill the fundamentals into my system, and actually understand what to do and when to do it that I could finally start to see genuine improvement. I can understand Mark's frustration at this concept since it feels like you should only go up from where you started, but the reality of it is as you said where you often tend to dip down in terms of end result for a variety of reasons, usually overconfidence because you think "oh I've done this easily before, I can do it again", and it takes getting past that lowest point before the climb starts.

The grip doesn't lock perfectly in place, it's affected by the character's physics shifting around. When you grip in place with one hand and fail a lunging grab with the other, the momentum of you coming back down drags on the hand that was holding on, and on very small surfaces, a missed leap can pretty easily drag hard enough to detach you.

So here's the pattern as I see it. When mark begins he's slow and methodical making sure to take in what's in the path and slowly make his way as to not reset his progress. But once he falls he's printed a route in his brain and knows it and loses that sense of methodical thinking. Loses that slow precision he had when he started hence the feeling he gets when he says. How am I getting worse the longer I play this. It's not marks fault. It's actually a very important skill to have to mentally snapshot and forward plan like that on the fly. It's just when it comes to games like this it gets to him when things don't work the way it did the last time he did it the quote "EXACT SAME" way he did it before. We love you Mark and respect your hard work and determination. Keep going strong Tall Guy. If you know what's good for ya

A type of hand-eye coordination also starts to develop as we get used to game mechanics, but games having their own rules and physics means it's pretty easy to start tripping up because your brain is making jumps in logic that are slightly off. That's why you have to take breaks to try again, otherwise you just keep committing that misstep to memory.
