Great rendition of the race. Interesting to see the race from a different vantage point. My specialty is 30 sec to 1 min power. Im good at sprinting but better at sprint endurance. The speed of the race was so fast that I had no sprint left at the end as it required alot of aerobic endurance and so the watts I had to put out to keep up made it so I had nothing left at the end.

Good race coach. I watched the twitch feed of the race from the guy who got 3rd…. Watching those lightweight guys drop 1000w and their avatar just explode down the road is insane. At 220lbs, in a calorie deficit and training for 100km run in 4 weeks…..I was just happy to hang with you guys to the climb 😂 (flat race next time please 😆) flatter than last time 👍🏼. I should add replying to Coach Greg about our race, while I’m sat in the gym recovering from deadlifts….is rather surreal. 😂. Feel like I should go home and get some french toast.

Great breakdown of this race. If you have a feather and want to create a gap on the the climb, activate it on the bus stop on the right. That might give you an edge. Most people do it at the start of the climb, if you can hold on to them, you can smoke them after the bus stop. :)
@ollieelgie3 жыл бұрын
Great content, Mark. Banish the negative thoughts on the leg-snapper - it's an extended sprint up and you are STRONG. I always get dropped in the head first, before on the road. Be confident on the 0-1 minute bumps - you got this! I also got an indoor bike and Zwift setup in September, having got far too heavy and unfit during lockdown. And now I'm always getting my backside handed to me by someone lighter or more powerful (or often both!). I love your "above average" and "I always like to find a win somewhere" attitudes - great positivity that I also try to employ to enjoy. Subscribed and followed on Zwift. Good luck with everything.

It's a bad tactic to be at the front imo. You DO NOT want to be hitting any wind at the entry to a climb, you lose all momentum and that takes big watts to get back. I've got plenty of streams that demonstrate the proper positioning.

This shows the huge difference between the cycling fitness required for real cycling racing and the fitness required for this type of ultra-short Zwift racing. Tyler (VC) is out there mixing it up in actual road races that can last hours. To Tyler, a ~10 minute effort like this is essentially just an interval. I respect Mark's fitness but he was immediately dropped on the first hill five minutes into a race. Of course, Mark's not a dedicated cyclist so this is all slightly irrelevant.

Hmm, I think you have done some ftp ramp tests before... which you prob swing towards as they are based on ramping power over a short time. Would be interesting to see you do a 20 min effort now. You put out a lot of red in those 12 minutes.... if you got close to that for 20 mins.... yes you will have to throttle it back a bit... it looks like you may get an ftp increase. A solid 20 mins at 340w would give you around 323 ftp.... which I think should be doable as you wouldn't be hitting 450+ during the effort ( except maybe right at the end) You may have lost some top end but it looks like you are increasing your endurance and w/kg .
