@@mothertrucker936 I guess that if they brought pie and would have casual clothes (not costumes), they would be accepted. Especially if they became also members of the local church, think about all the christian celebrations and potlucks... 😂 But, since they showed that they celebrate that "evil, pagan" day, they aren't welcomed there. Rural communities in many countries are just like that. You either pretend to be one of them to get accepted, ignore religion / beliefs openly and get ignored by them or just move out. If you are (too) different than the majority in such places, you won't be accepted. Especially catholic people are strict about that, celebrating Halloween is like worshipping the evil himself, reading / watching Harry Potter is diving into ocultism, not to mention another fantasy books / movies with heroes having superpowers, which since aren't given by god, *must be* evil, there's no another explanation. The couple is definitely NTA, however I can see where the neighbours are coming from, and from their perspective it looks worse than for us. @shannonbullock2202 For real!! Can you imagine being such a sad excuse for breath, that you are completely two-faced, especially with people introducing themselves and giving you fun little packs of sugar?? I can't imagine allowing my life to fall to such a low spot. All of the churches do Trunk or Treat, so it has nothing to do with their fake religious conviction; it is purely their character. There's nothing wrong with them opening up the door and saying "oh no thank you we don't believe in Halloween" or "we don't like/eat candy", or "we don't really like talking to anyone as we're homebodies, but thank you for introducing yourselves". That character we were talking about? It's shown with the gossiping and the rudeness of some of the small town. They don't need to move, they just need to talk to the nice neighbors and ask who to keep out of their life. Then, ignore the bad people. They can't mess with you or your life if you always have headphones in when you're outside, and simply pretend they don't exist otherwise. See the sad assholes at the store, no you don't, unless you made eye contact- then a quick smile and pretend you felt your phone vibrate and answer it. It's "grandma" so the asshole can't try to make it rude that you don't want to interact with them and get their nastiness on you. 💖✨️💖✨️💖✨️ I think I'm going to make a thing on Reddit about how to survive small towns hahaha

However, we are in a committed relationship where we don't keep tabs exactly like that because it balances out, like he paid for various furniture we needed for example. Besides, when I was still studying, he paid more of the share of bills and stuff, now that I have a job we share more, etc. I know everyone's situation is different but if you have that kind of relationship where you are at a "what's mine is yours", it's a partnership. Also, _totally_ -not- fun fact, Jack having a "bad" credit score might not be because the guy is irresponsible, but because the guy refused to get credit card debts. I've heard that some people have bad scores because they refuse to have lots of debt, so they pay it off, which then kills the credit score. Story 1: NTA and I'm so happy to hear that the kids are in a safe, loving household that will adopt them, and they can visit their extended family. Your cousin doesn't even have rights to her newborn baby, which says a lot about how she must have mistreated the other kids. As far as I know, courts try to keep parents from losing custody: I once knew a mom who lost custody of her oldest son for hitting him but she still had custody of her two little children, and I remember thinking when I was a kid "Why didn't they take those kids away too? If she's such a bad parent to one of them, why would they magically expect her to be better to the other two?" But I was hearing that story secondhand from my (also a kid at the time) best friend, so no guarantees that the story was accurate. Story 2: YTA. Who owns the house is none of your business. And it sounds like you're trying to break them up? I wonder if sexism plays a role somewhere, like OP is disappointed in their friend for "not being a man" and buying the house, so they're picking on them over something so stupid. Story 3: YTA, and this could be OP's path to being an entitled parent if she doesn't admit she was wrong and apologize. I feel sorry for the MIL for having relationship issues, an already-eaten birthday cake, and learning that her daughter-in-law can act like an entitled brat. Even if this is pregnancy hormones (I have so much respect for pregnant people), there were better ways that OP could have handled it, and she could have controlled herself to walk away. I like the suggestion of getting someone on an app to send her some food. Story 4: NTA! You guys sound like fun people, and like the comments said I would suggest moving away if most of the neighborhood is like this. Although, every neighborhood has a couple of annoying/snooty/preachy/etc neighbors. But if most of the neighborhood is in "satanic panic" I would not stay for that. I like Mark's thoughts about not scaring the elderly neighbors. Story 5: NTA!! I'm sad for OP for having such awful parents. Not even getting into how badly they treated you 5 years ago, it's weird that they blame you for not being their designated driver when (presumably) they've been getting drunk for four Halloweens in a row without asking you to be their designated driver, so they must have someone else who could have helped. Also, they could have just not gotten drunk at a party, that was another option. Your sister and parents are assholes; I lose respect for anyone driving drunk, and your sister is old enough to know better than to defend her parents for it while yelling at you for not letting yourself be mistreated again. I'm glad OP stood up for themself and had a great Halloween!

Story 1 NTA SHE decided to have MULTIPLE kids DESPITE her condition/situation. It's even worse that she's PREGNANT *AGAIN* DESPITE HER CONDITION/SITUATION! I swear it's moments like this that give me a migraine. What the hell goes through her head? Did she think something like "They can't take all my children if i keep having them!" end of the day the children are safe and happy with the foster family and that's what's important.

Uber is in the US, but maybe not in his area. Source: Uber driver in US.

Story 3: I don't understand these people who think that pregnancy is an excuse to anything they want. I have been pregnant and I have always had enough self control not to eat other peoples' food, especially their birthday cake.

Maybe because we as a society have always cherished the fact that pregnant people are literally carrying the new generation and thus excuse a lot of their behavior, even if it's wrong.

Its cases like story 1 that make me favor court ordered sterilization. Its so wrong to keep pumping out kids, especially when there's probable drug and alcohol use!

I had reverse cravings. Typically I love sweets. At my job we have these peanut butter bars that are to die for. I remember thinking"I LOVE these!!!" But then just walking away. I had absolutely no desire to actually eat one. Lol.

Story 5: oh hell no did the sister say to OP it was his fault for the parents driving home drunk and getting a DUI. There were so many options to avoid that: call an Uber, call a Taxi, sister bring a them home, sister makes them stay the night or at least until they sobered up enough to drive legally. Sister is at fault for literally watching their parents leave knowing they are drunk. Parents are at fault for getting wasted before driving. They risked their lives and the lives of anyone else on the street, drivers (and passengers) or pedestrians. There is NO way OP is at fault. Shame on sister for blaming OP, I’d feel sorry for her kids truly for having a parent easily blame others for the faults of her own or others. Hopefully they don’t grow up to be just like her. Disgusting.

Here's my rural living neighbor story: We just bought our house out in a very rural area. We have 3 neighbors on one side (the farthest being my grandparents in law who we are very close with) and 1 on the other side. We each have over an acre of land (grandparents in law have 13 but it's all behind ours and our neighbors property lines) but our houses are still quite close...closer than you'd imagine it being out in the middle of nowhere. My fiance and his grandparents know all our neighbors since he grew up living with his grandparents for a good amount of his childhood and part of his adulthood. So our only neighbor on the one side is very quiet. I've never met her. She's elderly I guess. With what my fiance has told me which hasn't been much, she sounds a bit bitter. Like he's worried she will get mad if she hears our dogs barking and just petty things like that, but never seen her met her. Our neighbor on the other side, however...grandpa in law told us to play nice with him cause his grandson is the father of 2 of my fiance's cousins kids and they don't want anything going downhill there. Understandable. So, for context to summarize why we will never sell and move... we have spent since early January updating and remodeling this whole house and converted a bedroom into a bathroom. Mind you, we did this all ourselves with help from family. Fiance's grandpa lead the whole project and helped with every single part of it in many different ways and taught us so many things as well as refreshing my memory on a lot of it, too. We all worked very hard on this house. Thank God his grandpa is a jack of all trades and he doesn't cut corners. We own and lived in a "manufactured home community" (trailer park with all manufactured homes...they don't like the word "trailer" for the last 5 years and continued to live there while working on this house until we moved in labor day weekend. House isn't finished, only a few very small things to finish up. Well, before we moved in, we noticed that there were ruts in our yard from someone driving through it between our garage and our neighbors garage. Not small ruts either. We live on a busy road and it's kind of dangerous to back out of the driveway. Our neighbor has some construction equipment/machinery. Not huge, but still big and heavy. He also has some guy over there often with a trailer hitched to his van. It didn't take us long to realize they were driving through our yard. We never said anything cause idk if something was said to him or what but him and his guys stood outside in his driveway with all the equipment loaded up for hours while I was outside. As soon as I went inside, I looked out the window and saw they were leaving. Went back out and he started kind of angrily helping his buddy turn around in his van, with the trailer loaded up, and since he doesn't have a very wide or long driveway there was nowhere for the trailer to go except his own yard. Fiance said he guarantees they were waiting for me to be out of eyesight and earshot and drive through our yard and I blocked them. So now there's been quite a lot of times I go outside and he's standing shirtless, arms crossed and legs spread a bit at the edge of his garage standing in my direction and just stares at me. It's fucking creepy! Think I left out he's maybe in his 60s-70s and he seems....off. I can't go outside straight out to the back cause we don't have a back door. Just the front and side. I told my fiance that when we have the money to and can, we are replacing the 2 large windows we have in the dining room and installing a sliding glass door and building a patio. I can't even go out to smoke a cigarette without ol' dude staring at me if he's outside when I go out. I can't hide from him and even going into the garage...it's detached and on that side of the house so he will still see me going in the garage. It's like...we moved for more land and quiet area and end up with a creepy dude next door. We have invested way too much time, literal blood sweat and tears, and money into this house to just sell it and leave just because of this guy. So I decided that anytime I go out and he's doing his creeper shit, I'm just going to smile and wave. It's not like us to not say something, but with how he's connected to our family, that's what we have to do. For now... 😂

In the first story, who wants to bet all those children were born addicts because mom didn’t stop, thus their health was compromised from the very start. Which means they might all grow to have health issues, which should be considered before a single woman adopts four to five to six children. I’m guessing the potential adoptive parents have the ability to take on this burden (financial, emotional, and physically)

RE : STORY THREE ; No worries just move all the candles to around the gap where the slice was removed and no one will notice that the selfish tart cut a piece out of it and maybe the cake might even accidentally catch on fire destroying all the evidence of of what that selfish tart did. Just a suggestion. Or y'all could tie her to a chair and make her finish the rest of the cake "take another bite the baby wants more" "there's only two slices left , you can finish them and the baby wants another bite".
