I hate confrontation, but if I were a parent, I would not tolerate behaviors like this and would do my utmost to prevent something like this. Lisa had feelings, which in itself is not mean/cruel or anything. Things like that happen. But she was selfish. Instead of thinking "this man is married to my sister" she went the route "me, myself and I are more important that my sister". Husband was also an asshole, he probably would have cheated anyway. But for Lisa to just spread her legs to her sister's husband, that's low. Mother should have warned OP so that she is made aware of the possible risks. She probably would have gone to her sister's alone after knowing. She would know not to leave the two alone or sitting next to each other during family meetings. Half and if not more of OP's pain comes from the fact it happened with Lisa. Anyone other woman her husband would have found would be just that, a "bitch". But because it was Lisa, it's so much worse. All the mother had to do to do her part of trying to help was to tell OP. And she didn't. Given hiw she reacted to OP getting pregnant I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted Lisa to end up with husband. She "couldn't bear watch her precious little baby sad" and since he was making her happy, then "let it all go to hell honey. I'll disown OP if she gets in the way of your happiness, so go for it"

We are only getting part of the story from OP's perspective and she may be omitting details or not aware of what the family has said to her sister and refer to point 1 as to why they might be more forgiving two years later now.

OP doesn't love the husband. She loves the memory of him, she loves the past they had, the image he presented in the past. Husband is just something she's familiar with, comforting in a sense, but being fond of some memories doesn't mean you still have feelings towards the person you shared the memories with. Husband might be poly, sure, although he sounds confused at best or schizopheniac at worst. He probably wanted a bit out since sister started being hella controlling and overbearing, but at the same time, he's still with her. Now though, OP lost her friends as well, so as hard as it is, she's already alone. I would suggest OP just move far away. Get yourself professional therapist to guide you before moving, then find a good lawyer and just rip husband to pieces. I am so low key frustrated with OP. I have a friend like this. Her ex did exactly the same like what OP's husband did (but he cheated with a mutual friend, not sister) and threw her under the bus as soon as he started getting heat from mommy dearest. The thing is, she expects me to bail her out each time. I did several times and now she's with another low key, awful guy again. I decided I wouldn't invest so much in trying to bail her out anymore because she will continue to make the same poor choices each time and make it my problem when things don't work out. I've had to end friendships like this before. Don't feel bad; you can only give so much of yourself, but ultimately you can't help someone who doesn't help themself. You don't have to completely go no-contact or tell them you don't wanna be friends anymore; you can say you need time to yourself and make them lean on someone else for a while, establish boundaries and say "I'm sorry, I can't help you with that. STORY 1: OP should just divorce her husband and accept his offer that he will give her everything and go no contact with selfish sister and possibly low contact with Mom considering she knew about this and didn’t say anything. EDIT: regarding the letter, OP should just cut ties with her sister. The letter when she says she needs OP to be in her life, that’s her trying to have her cake and eat it too. Wow. I feel awful for OP. There are clearly signs in here that her sister is the parents' Golden Child... If she had had a better support system, then the 2 year update would have been way different. But her husband is a piece of shit, the parents were already hiding the sister's affair, and her friends distanced themselves from her- of course she latched onto the one person she thought loved her. It's just sad all around. And unfortunately, it probably is real, because most stories in life don't end happy or fair and people make bad decisions. I can actually believe this one because I have a cousin who is just as screwed up as this story. She ran away at 17, went no-contact with everyone for almost 5 years, we thought she was dead. I kept in contact with her ex boyfriend because we were keeping each other updated on if the other had found any leads as we were both actively looking for her. We even became friends during this time. One day out of the blue my cousin messages me on MSN- something I had stopped using for a long time, but for some reason felt like maybe I should check it that day. She had messaged me a few days prior and was online at that moment. Needless to say, after I made sure she was okay and in a safe place and everything I fucking went off on her ass for the hell she put me, my mother, her mother, her grandmother and everyone else through. At the same time I was also talking to her ex. Turns out she ran away with a guy 6 years older than her that she had been cheating with. They broke up and she was homeless. I got ahold of her mom and grandma and together we got her home. Only to have her go from boyfriend to boyfriend, to my couch, her moms couch, and so much BS. Eventually she “discovered” she was bi (I know how it sounds, but trust me she really was just experimenting) and dove head first into a polygamous relationship with her ex that I previously mentioned and his girlfriend. It did not go well at all and it was not because him or his girlfriend. She tried to steal her ex for herself by trying to baby trap him and he was not comfortable with it and ultimately kicked her out after she threatened his girlfriend. He and I maintained a friendship for a while after, but life happens and we drifted apart. Haven’t spoken to him in a few years. Now my cousin only calls/texts me when she wants something. Thankfully it money, I think she knows she burned that bridge a long time ago. No. She vents to me and it’s completely one sided. If I try to tell her anything about my life, she just stops responding because the subject changed from her. These days I only make sure she’s still alive just in case she goes missing again and nothing more because I don’t want to see her mother go through that again. She’s almost 30 and needs to grow the fuck up.

If OP lives in the USA and she hasn't been divorced from her husband, she can file for divorce, make him child support and damages for cheating. She also can make her sister pay damages. Story 1: they trauma bonded. Sister is, essentially, nuclear level rebounding and not realizing it. Husband bonded with her because we instinctively bond with people who reach out for help and are vulnerable. It's especially easy for men to fall into that if the vulnerable person is a woman because of white knight complexes. This relationship very likely isn't going to last once the trauma bonding wears off. They're not in love. Their dopamine receptors are just misfiring because of the trauma.

Honestly I went on Reddit to see the replies and the thread was made in 2013 I'm guessing and the last update was in 2015. So obviously the original poster is either staying off rather than keeping it to herself or she pretty much went no contact with the family and just raised the child on her own. The fact that there has not been an update on the story in 6 years almost 7 years is astounding. Obviously she's not in the wrong here but when you hurt people like that for years it's going to be a case of you hurt me I'm going to hurt you worse. And the husband knows he's in the wrong here. The family is obviously severely playing favoritism and they can't even see it and my advice to the original poster if she hasn't done this either give the child up for a close adoption or be prepared for your ex-husband and your sister and the rest of the family trying to get full custody of the child
