When I was a kid I spent my summers on Cape Cod. In the town of Yarmouth there was a place called "Jerry's" on Rte 28. I used to work there serving ice cream and peeled onions for the onion rings. Jerry's use to have the best fried clams around. People would travel for miles to get them. I would go into the walk in cooler to get things and while inside I would peer at the clams inside the small container they were packed in. They were still alive and wiggling. The secret to good fried clams is hot hot grease. "Jerry's" is still there but Jerry himself is no longer the owner. Jerry was a workaholic during the summer months who worked sixteen hours a day seven days a week. He could be cranky too. When summer season ended his relatives would run the store during off season and his wife would not let him step foot inside the store. Jerry and his wife were good people.

@@anasandoval6698 what does that mean?
@marcostudd3 жыл бұрын
@@JP1NYC 😂😂
@anasandoval66983 жыл бұрын
@@JP1NYC the gallbladder is an organ found by the liver that connects to the liver and pancreas via ducts (think of it like a balloon bellow the liver that can inflate and deflate as needed). It helps the liver produce and store bile (a type of acidic acid) that turns fat into fatty acids that your body can digest and absorb. Overconsumption of fatty foods such as fried foods can cause an accumulation of cholesterol in the body and in the gallbladder. If the gallbladder can't break these fats quickly they turn into gallstones (think of these as stones of various shapes and sizes that cannot be digested by your body nor escape the gallbladder, they just keep accumulating). You then essentially have a balloon (the gallbladder) full of them that will overtime get bigger and accumulate. They don't go anywhere, they just stay in this balloon. Since the balloon can no longer deflate and inflate as it used to because now they always have stones inside, if the stones are large enough they can block the duct to the pancreas and liver limiting the amount of bile that is excreted to these organs. This is not a good thing as you can experience severe discomfort and referred pain; meaning the right side of your upper belly won't be hurting but instead you'll feel pain and discomfort on your right shoulder/scapula for no apparent reason (that's referred pain). Worst case scenario, the gallbladder bursts inside your body spilling bile into your abdominal cavity which can lead to sepsis (blood poisoning) and if left untreated it can kill you. If the gallbladder is removed through surgery or laparoscopy you can 100% live without it, but you cannot consume fried foods in such big quantities (such as in this video) as you'll feel extremely grossed out, you'll feel like you need to puke, or will get diarrhea because your body cannot break down the fats into fatty acids anymore.

Yes, that is a lot of money lol I live right on the southern Maine coast and I can assure you that is a lot of money. You can get a fisherman’s platter at Ken’s place, Clam Bake, Bay Haven or many other places for a quarter of the price. Granted everything is inflated in Massachusetts and people will pay it. I personally thin fried clams are gross. Most clam necks and bellies with sand in them.

I absolutely love New England and the availability of fresh seafood. It would be well worth the cost of what you ordered. My husband is from New Hampshire and grew up eating fried clams and lobster rolls. I on the other hand grew up in Mississippi and never had a clue what these delights were all about. When I ventured to the North country for the first time to meet my in-laws, my mother-in-law took us to Wells Beach Main for a week. I was in fresh seafood heaven. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video.

@veegames33644 ай бұрын
@@Scott-fy7fm it’s still seafood. Just fresh as all hell. Gotta pay the captain, captain has to pay his crew and gas, plus upkeep. It’s a dangerous job with high insurance costs. Sea isn’t always bountiful and can be unforgiving. Gotta pay the plethora of employees that keep the ~300 seat restaurant moving, plus merch and bar. Restaurant margins are slim regardless. Do I need to justify the cost anymore? You pay for what you get. The portions are massive, it’s fresh and delicious and it really hasn’t changed much since it opened, just keeping up with inflation.
