90% of blue countries are also rich by global standards, 90% of gray countries are poor and underdeveloped. Religion and bigotry leads to violence, poverty, and deep social issues. Japan will likely have marriage equality within the next few years, many of its courts have already made rulings to this effect.
@QueerKingdomOfficial11 күн бұрын
Very well put. The few remaining gray countries that are rich and developed like Japan, South Korea, Czechia etc are very close to passing marriage equality in the next 1-5 years max. Even Singapore has made a huge 180 from criminalizing being gay to now starting the process recognizing queer relationships. The only rich gray countries that will perhaps never turn blue are the Arab gulf states. But their wealth is fake, only from oil and gas and not a reflection of having a developed or advanced society. They are third world countries with lots of Chinese buildings bought with fossil fuel cash that they earned from using American made extraction and processing technology. Once they can’t export as much, they will quickly go back to being empty desert hellscapes unless they completely change socially before that happens. So yes, with only a few rare exceptions due to highly odd circumstances like those found in the gulf, your assessment is spot on.

And in Asia, if support continues to grow at its current rate, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia probably aren’t too too far off (hopefully Thailand will give them a nudge).

Unfortunately they have not. Seemed like it was the case in Nepal last summer but the government clarified that same-sex marriage was not yet legal despite favorable court rulings and statements from different government departments. Maybe this year it will finally happen! With Czechia, the situation is different. Last year the government passed expanded civil unions that they claimed entailed marriage rights without the label of marriage. Sadly, it does not even live up to this goal as many rights relating to inheritance and adoption are not included in the Czech bill. So not only does Czechia not have marriage equality in name, but not even in practice. They merely have slightly beefed up civil unions. Progress, but far from ideal.

1. Wow, this song is epic! 2. As a Dutchy, very proud. 3. Because you mentioned the constituent countries of the United Kingdom & the ones of the kingdom of Denmark separately, i would like to add the countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; Yes, the European part of NL opened up marriage to people of the same sex, but the Carribean part _didn't._ (they've got their own parliament & courts) In 2012 there was a constitutional change, which meant that the islands of Bonaire, st Eustatius & Saba fell under European Dutch law, so marriage equality was unlocked. But for the islands of Aruba & Curaçao, that happened more recently on 12 juli 2024. The island of saint Martin has a French part(st Martin) & a Dutch part.(sint Maarten) On the French half there's French law, so equality since 2013, but the Dutch commonwealth part unfortunately still hasn't. Though it always was the case that marriages that took place elsewhere count everywhere in the kingdom. 4. You asked what could be the next one. I know that there are many parts of Japan that acknowledge same sex marriage, so i expect the whole of the country to be added to this globe soonish. In Europe i expect Czechia to be next, perhaps followed by Italy & Cyprus. In Africa i think Namibia & long after that one or several of the Island nations like Mauritius & Seychelles, being one island hop over from French territory helps. I also have good hopes for Suriname, which is a former colony of the Netherlands.

what does marriage equality mean in this context? just gay marriage? or is there something more?
@QueerKingdomOfficial13 күн бұрын
Gay marriage implies it is between two people who identify as male or two people who identify as female. This leaves out many people who are not within the gender binary and who do not identify as gay or lesbian. So it more accurate and inclusive to use the term marriage equality than same-sex or gay marriage even though there is nothing wrong with them and they all mean the same thing but just describe it to varying levels of accuracy.

Israel does not recognize non-religious marriages, and no approved religions in the country perform same sex marriages, so basically that means that Israel does not have marriage equality. But if an LGBTQ Israeli citizen married someone overseas, the government will respect that marriage if they decided to move to Israel. So it’s a partial recognition. Better than nothing, but also not ideal for locals who don’t want to get married overseas.
