What a fantastic, under-rated amp! You have to spend time really getting to know it, and dialing in your own sounds. It’s so responsive! It pushes and pulls back at you like a great tube amp. I love my Code 50.
@ananymouboy79142 жыл бұрын
I own the head. The key to great tone is to cut the bass in the pre amp and use the resonance in the amp to bring the bass back that way you get the amp to be tight. Also keep the treble half way or so. Turn of the cab sim and you got all Marshall’s at your fingertips. The JVM model has so much gain that at 2.5 it is metal. 😃

I love my code 100. It's got all the sounds you need, for any music style. The presets aren't that great, but you can definitely tweak the sound and get what you're looking for.

I think the presets were to show the extremes, because they were awful. They weren't meant to be used, but once you dial in the sound you like, the amp comes to life.

@@castleanthrax1833 sure does. I'm addicted to the plexi and jcm800 sounds you can get. I like that I can play anything from Johnny cash to Pantera, and actually sound good. Definitely a very usable amp.

Hi Marshall: On the back of that amp, there's an 8ohm cabinet connection OUT jack. The manual says "26. SPEAKER OUTPUT (CODE100H ONLY)", so I'm not sure if one CAN even use an external cabinet, as that part is unclear (why put an output jack on the combo version if it can't be used???). At any rate, scenario: If I connect that jack to, say, an external Marshall Lead 1960 4 x 12 cabinet, will the combo amp's internal speakers CONTINUE to work WHILE the external cabinet is connected (for a full stereo sound), or will it ONLY play through the external cab when connected? I'm asking because I thought it would be cool to have a true "stereo sound" in my jam room, keeping the combo nearer me and then placing the larger 1960 4 x 12 cabinet cross the room for a big, wide sound. Comments or suggestions?
@AdamManley72 жыл бұрын
They just want you using the code cabinet because it’ll let you use the cab sims better because it was designed to be flatter response

Is the 100 combo a stereo unit? I’m guessing that it’s not because nobody has yet to mention it in the various reviews I’ve seen. If it isn’t, what is the reason; is it something specific that I’ve not yet considered? I think it would be awesome if it is stereo; I won’t buy until I know...

I've bought and Played a Line Six Spider 100 watt combo, a Fender Mustang 100 watt combo, and I've spent a fair amout of time with this amp during jam sessions with the boys. I'm here to tell you, if you need a Marshall in your life and you don't have a lot of cash just get a DSL15 head or combo. Digital modelers will never sound good once you've played a real amp. Its the difference between vicodin and heroin. No contest.
@mikespatafore54667 жыл бұрын
smartacus88 does the dsl head have any power to it? I'm running the 2x12 cab for it but was skeptical on the head at only 15w.
@smartacus887 жыл бұрын
Mike Spatafore I'd say it's comparable to 50 watts of solid state power. With a 2X12 you'll have a drummer sweating.
@CeciShaw7 жыл бұрын
Even without the effects loops the DSL15 head is WAY better. 15 watts is plenty live. I never get to crank my 100 watt tube head live anymore. Sound guys will hate you. 15 watt marshall tube in the clean channel and some pedals right on the front. done. simple. take a 2x12 cab and mic it. I like the dirty channel but back off the gain and just put an OD pedal in front.

So are you saying you're a heroin addict? Not something to boast about I would have thought lol. I have the Code 100 combo and I think it is awesome. Marshall have nailed this IMHO.
@smartacus886 жыл бұрын
Chris Davies Having lived Rock-N-Roll as much as I've played it I've tried lots of stuff. It was just a comparison. I mean it sounds as good as any solid state amp, but it'll never have the response, dynamic, or growl of a real amp. To each their own.

I think I'll stick with my Marshall 9200 monobloc power amp. I can run any preamp/effects unit into it and it just sounds awesome with all the tube balls the 9200 provides. Right now I'm using a Pod XT Pro rackmount and I can get tons more effects, cab models, amp models, reverbs, delays, mic positions, and lots more from it in stereo with a nice foot controller @ a beefy tube 100w per side. I can run a full stack on each side because the 9200 has output jacks for that. The EL 100/100 is basically the same so you can use that power amp for the same kind of setup. Yeah they cost more but are well worth it. I was looking at this hoping they would have added a 100x tube amp but they cheaped out on that and the rest of it as well. From the videos, these sounds are thin and tinny. It sounds cheap, like a toy. I don't know about you, but when I get up on stage I don't want to sound like I'm playing a toy. This is a giant leap backwards for Marshall IMO.

What ruins this type of amp is that the company can't stick to modelling their own historical amps and have to do everyone else's too. This ensures that they always miss a good number of their own historical amps to make room for other manufacturers amps. I would feel like a mug standing there playing a fender sound through a Marshall branded product.
@castleanthrax18332 жыл бұрын
This amp has ONLY marshall products in it. Personally I think that's a bit of a flaw, but it's only marshall, no competitors.
