I love him too. I finally got a copy of his first appearence in silver surfer annual #6. Paid like 10$ for it, and its perfect! His legacy costume is so 90s, i love it so much. Idk why i like genis so much, hes just dope and his new marvel series that just started is incredible so far! Plz go buy it so we get mooooore! A Genis-vell book is probably the CLOSEST thing we will ever get to a new mar-vell book, sadly marvel is stuck with carol.

Thanks for covering Genis-Vell, Rob. He's one of my favourite characters, and I wish they would bring him back somehow. The big thing about him is that he technically isn't dead. Zemo couldn't find a way to kill him permanently, and he had Cosmic Awareness atrt the time due to wielding multiple Moonstones. The only way he could stop Photon's very existence from destroying everything was to literally cut him into pieces and hide them across time and space within the Darkforce dimension so that they couldn't reform.

Genis-Vell had the potential to be a very interesting character. The problem was that they just didn't know what to do with him after his initial story arc was over. He would have been a powerful character no matter what but instead of really developing his character, they opted to keep putting more and more abilities with no rhyme or reason to it. It's a shame but it's what passes as creative writing now.

Hey Rob, thanks for doing this video. I was one of the requestors for this on another video, because once I had found out about Photon, I just had to read all I could about him and love his story. Photon really seems to achieve nigh omnipotence with his abilities and powers, but is written as like what would happen to an ordinary person who became a god: could you psychologically handle that much power? In my opinion, he's got one of the best designs, back stories, and powers in all of Marvel. I'm surprised we don't see more of him, or hear of him talked about more in what would be a Marvel "tier list" or hierarchy, because he definitely seems to be in the top five; easily. Thanks again!

@@f-1z46 He's way more interesting than what they're doing now. Carol Danvers was a fun and interesting character that was at her best from House of M to the first volume of her Captain Marvel run. Ever since Civil War 2, they have gone out of their way to make her a totally unlikable character. Even when they short changed Genis and killed him off(mainly because they were getting rid of him to make Carol Captain Marvel) they still wrote him in character. My main problem with Carol is that she isn't acting like Carol anymore. She is the personality of whatever writer is on her book.

Genis is probably not talked about (along with any other potential new Captain Marvel's) because it would mean Carol Danvers would be weak by comparison. Hence why Marvel hasn't brought him back, because he could be a Real Captain Marvel. Then again, they could be gearing up Star Brand as a replacement of sorts, but that's just my speculation.

I followed Genis-Vell's story, and he was one of my favorite characters. No disrespect, but you kind of skimmed over Moondragon's attempt to train Genis to handle his Cosmic Awareness. He had multiple name changes. Legacy, to Captain Marvel, to finally Photon. He was a powerful, and fun, character. Unfortunately, he ended up in the "grave", because the writers didn't know where to go with him. Hope he comes back, at some point.

It's not that the writers didn't know what to do with him, it's that editorial (i.e. Bill Jemas, Joe Quesada and Tom Brevoort) wanted Genis gone. The guys over at the Capes & Lunatics podcast read off an email from Fabian Nicieza that he was asked to kill off Genis via editorial mandate. That's actually something Fabian has since come forward with on twitter too recently. There's people out there that can write Genis and write him well but as long as Marvel editorial hates his guts, Genis is never going to come back on top of some disconcerting stuff Peter David said where nobody even knows or cares about Genis.

PAD got into public feuds with them and I think he said on his website from way back that there were oddities like the issues shipping as late as possible. I think Genis was undermined at every opportunity by a hostile editorial and that really sucks because Kurt Busiek and PAD did a great job with the character. I even like some of Nicieza's Captain Marvel and Thunderbolts with Genis
