@@TheToughGuysTV based on your video I used it yesterday without too much hassle. The only wrinkle was lifting the device right in front, you know setting the height. After working that out, I don't see much reason to keep it lifted higher than an eighth of an inch from the bottom and that's only to keep from drilling on the aluminum base

I’ve seen a jig similar to this that came with side support that were adjustable and that slid on a rod. Trend jig i think.. does this come with anything like that.

Same way that I mounted my jig. I added a hinge so I can flip the jig up so I can drill pocket holes on the end of long boards supported by my table.

I like this Massca Pocket hole jig you are presenting. The allen wrench of the Kreg jig stores under the toggle clamp, there is a little grove to receive the allen, at least that is where I store my allen on my Kreg jig. I think Massca has a better value in the aluminum body. I like it and will get one. Now that you have previewed the tool and your concern about the drill bit depth gauge, I will make marks for the depth of the bore on the body of the jig. So instead of having a grove to rest the drill bit to measure the depth of the bore, I will have scratch marks or tape to record the depth of the stop collar. Thank you for this education.

I have had mine for about a month and agree with this review. I also had tear out on the holes I drilled. The dust port is a different size than any of my adapters- quick fix with 1 1/4” pvc and heat gun. I think it is worth the money.

I enjoyed your video and I think from what I see I'll purchase one. I don't fault Kreg from using plastic, as long as it is rigid enough and metal reinforced in the wear areas like the drill bit guide. But something about just good quality machined metal parts that can't be compared to any plastic part. As for the drill depth gauge I think Massca listened to some carpenters as I've seen many build videos and a lot just put a shim on the Kreg jig to light the bit up slightly and lock the stop ring. I'm sure that's faster and Massca adopted that adjustment style, being just a DIY'er either configuration works for me. I don't need those precious seconds when I'm doing everything else at a snails pace. haha. But again even though plastic is 100% fine, nothing beats the feel of working on quality machined metal tools. I'm sold!

Kreg pioneered the pocket hole jig, so it stands to reason everybody compares their version to the Kreg product line. I have a Kreg K2 Master System, which I purchased new the year it was introduced, 1993 or 94. It too is made of aluminum. I still have and use the original drill bit and driver. Compared to the Massca unit you can see the direct similarities in the basic design. The only real difference between my 27 year old K2 and the Massca jig is the removable drill guide block and the vacuum port. The K2 was designed to be used on 3/4 inch material only. A few years back I upgraded to the K5 because I like the expandability of it. 3 different drill guide blocks, the micro for thinner than 3/4 inch material, the regular drill guide block, and the heavy duty drill guide block for 1 1/2 inch material and up. Plus there is a plug cutter guide block with three corresponding plug cutters. This comes in handy when filling pocket holes. I can use off cuts of the wood that I'm using for the project. Done right I can colour and grain match the plug too make the pocket hole virtually disappear. Ok, so now here's the irony. I have a friend who has the Trend branded version of the Massca pocket hole jig, and yes it is a well made piece of kit, someone wanting a pocket hole jig would not be disappointed. But we were sitting down one day having a discussion, and we both came to the realisation, that even though my K5 and his Massca/Trend have adjustable drill guide blocks, that 99% of the time they are set at the 3/4 inch material setting. At the end of the day they both just drill pocket holes. When you look at someone's finished project, you are not going to know what brand of pocket hole jig they used. I'm a classically trained master carpenter, with more than five decades of woodworking experience, I can build you anything from a house to the furniture in it. I think the video and the product were presented well. The manufacturer should send you some free swag, in my opinion. Cheers.

Thanks for the notes Andy! I appreciate all the thoughts and notes. One thing I think is important, at least for me, is the ability to communicate directly with Massca vs a company like Kreg. Massca and I talk all the time, and they are constantly trying to come up with ideas to improve and how they can offer better service and products. Not to say Kreg doesn't do those things, I assume they do - but I don't have that line of communication personally. On top of that, I'm a tactile guy - I love the feel and the look of the Massca jig, it just feels substantial. I love the metal knobs and the 'feel' of it - it's enjoyable to use for that alone. I've got the K4 Kreg, I added a couple small rare earth magnets in shallow forstner bit holes to retain the allen key and the bit in the storage channel. Just drill and epoxy in place. Hopefully that helps someone else. I've got my Kreg mounted to a piece of board that slips into my bench dog holes. Think pocket hole station thats removable from the bench top when you don't need it. It would work great with an mft type bench top, if i ever get around to building one

This is a nice looking unit. Regarding the use of plastic vs. aluminum, a high-quality composite (plastic) might actually hold up better on a construction site where it can be a life of "hard knocks" for tools. Plastic can resist being banged, bumped and dropped and come away without any damage. The metal unit, if knocked off a workbench, will be damaged, particularly if it lands on a corner or edge. While the plastic unit will be lighter in weight and have a cheaper feel, it might end up with a longer life and show less wear than a metal unit (particularly if it's made of aluminum). The Massca might be better for use in a home workshop, while the Kreg might be the better option for the pro out in the field. Nice job on the video.

Nice review really like how you solved your accessories storage solution in the end. I have the Kreg K-4 system. On the edge of the system near where the handle for the clamp is a small hole that is used for the storage of the Allen wrench. Hope that this help.

I've noticed that the holes drilled with both the Massca and Armor jigs are more jagged than with the Kreg jigs. Could it be that the Kreg drill bit is making the difference? Are the Kreg drill bits compatible with the Massca?

That's a great question. I'm sure bit quality and sharpness may have an impact definitely. I don't see rougher holes unless I'm drilling against the grain. If I was doing finer woodwork / cabinet building I may be able to comment further. Most of the stuff I build isn't 'fine' detail stuff, so I'm ok with a little extra sanding. Thanks for the comment!

I'm a novice. It seems odd to me that there is only one drill bit for all size screws but there is only one, right? Can you use any washer head type screws with this or do they have to be pocket screws? That little adjustable round piece for bit adjustment...do the numbers on that correspond to the other number on the other parts (does that make sense)? Thanks for the great video!

Yes only one bit and only pocket screws specifically is what you'd want to use. Never feel bad about asking questions!! Yes, each measurement on the jig and the parts correspond to different wood thicknesses. Some apply to the piece you're drilling and sometimes you also need to think about the piece you are drilling into. Look up Massca on Instagram, and there are SO many creators making helpful content just like me to help you along the way.

Excellent review, Very clear and concise and great camera shots. I have looked at the Kreg K-4 K5 and the Porter Cable 560 and this one and the only thing this one seems to gives up to them is the ability to have different spacing between pocket holes. The Porter Cable and the Massca are much better build quality for the money to me, instead of mostly plastic but Kreg is the leader it seems. Kinda crazy, must be US marketing. Besides the great storage setup you have made, I thought of drilling a 1/8 hole thru the side of plastic depth adjuster and attaching it with some 1/6 paracord type rope to the base of the Massca. Just a thought, for a mobile guy having to move it a lot. Throw the drill bit in the jig and drill a hole for the allen wrench maybe somewhere too. Hope that helps somebody.

Thanks for the vid. Was considering the Kreg K5 but this one seems better. However I came across the Armor auto-jig pocket hole system and that one blew me away. It takes it a bit further. Just place piece of wood/lumber into its clamp and it auto adjusts the drill bit stop collar, auto adjusts the drill guide, and has a key for coded screws that tell you which length screw to use for that particular wood. Check out vids on youtube. Was very impressed with how easy it was to use. You are store everything on the jig itself. Height of it is standard size of a 2x4 so don’t need to buy extra wings or come up with your own wing for more support.

The Kreg Jig does indeed have a spot to store the allen key. It's on the back end in between the clamp and the plastic, there's a little slot for it.

In terms of the depth setting component put it on a string or drill a hole on the mini shelf you've made, it seems to me to be an improvement over the kreg as you have to orient yourself to place the drill bit in the hole anyway and you don't have to walk round to the other side of the jig to set the depth collar. As regards the drill bit and allen keys etc, either drill another hole or use a magnet on the side? This looks a bit like a deluxe version of the Trend one and I'd wonder whether it was made in the same factory and It looks really well thought out. Thanks for the vid.

I do believe the Trend is the same thing, but Massca has made some modifications. I know that Trend is the name brand licensed overseas (speaking from the US). My understanding is that Massca is selling in North America. They've been growing their lineup, and continue to add great products!

I just recently bought the Kreg 320 so I don't have any experience with the K4 or K5. However, I've always found it curious that Kreg went with plastic. At the same time, the Kreg jig is extremely popular not only in videos here but also in the stores. I don't think I've ever seen another pockethole jig from another maker. Again, I don't have any experience with the K4 or K5 but I have to agree with you that the aluminum base makes the Massco unit seem much more durable. I like Massco's design for the dust extraction port as well as the screw location on the drill guide. Since you also have the Kreg K4, did you find the same blowout when you used their drill for the first time? Those were some pretty ugly holes for a new drill bit. Then again, it could be the wood, but it certainly was a "hmmm" result. Personally, I bought the Kreg 320 for a quick project and I didn't want to spend a ton on new tools to get it done. At some point though, I want to upgrade. This Massco product will certainly be a serious consideration when the time comes.

I will definitely be using this one vs the Kreg setup for sure - just ‘feels’ nicer to use. Without setting up a place to use hold that bit depth wheel thing, I was extremely concerned with loosing it. Probably went plastic to reduce cost. Haven’t seen the Kreg but I’d guess it’s injection molded which is cheaper than cnc alumium jig or die casted aluminum jig.

Do you think you could make a template to adjust the depth Of the drill bit like the Craig jig for the Massca ? Just in case you Lose that plastic piece. Or you could just measure the height of each stop and write it down on a piece of tape stuck to the jig. It is easy enough to make a few shims to the needed heights. I basically only work with two thicknesses when I want to do pocket holes, so two shims would be easy enough to handle. High precision is not required on the heights. Within 1/16-inch should be more than enough precision in most cases.

If it was a Kreg K3, K4, or K5 there is a plug cutter available, which allows you to make pocket hole plugs from off cuts of the actual wood your using on your project. So you can get a color and grain match. Done right the pocket hole virtually disappears. Barring that, a 3/8 dowel and a flush cutting saw will do the trick, and is way cheaper than buying pre-made pocket hole plugs. As far as the screw heads being in the way of plugging the hole on 1/2 inch plywood wood. Are you using 1 inch screws? Second do not over tighten the screws, use just enough pressure to pull the joint together.

I've been reviewing several pocket hole fixtures, and this one is attractive except for one question I have. The plastic Kreg fixtures appear to provide angled holes with very little tear out, whereas the Trend (Massca in the USA) videos I've watched all seem to display a fair amount of tear out around the edges of the holes. Is it the jig or step-drill causing this? Curious if the Kreg step-drills come with a sharper cutting edge, which begs the question of whether or knock one can use the Kreg step-drill bit in the Trend (Massca) fixtures. UPDATE: After viewing a couple other favorable reviews, I ordered this Massca pocket- hole jig (only $70 on eBay).

I've wondered the same thing. I don't have either one but I'm curious to see if the Kreg has a tighter tolerance to the drill bit, where the drill bit comes through the jig face against the board. @@buckylaine I bought two different Massca jigs ... the aluminum bench-mount model and their plastic portable model (links below). The portable unit works very well when drilling parallel to the grain, but does create some minor tear-out when drilling prependicular to the grain. The bench unit creates tear-out regardless of grain direction. All my test holes were in outdoor treated pine (soft). Also, I gouged one of the angled bores in the bench unit on the first hole I tried drilling. So, there's an advantage to the steel sleeves in the plastic units (like Kreg). Massca prices are great, and I'll probably stay with this bench unit. It's not like the appearance of pocket holes matters. The tear out I've seen is with either jig, the differentiating factor being whether or not I'm drilling with or against the wood grain. If I'm against the grain, I always get a bit of tear out. It's quickly remedied with my orbital sander, or for more precise people a razor knife works as well. Figured I'd share my thoughts here and thank you so much for watching and for the comment!! I have the Massca pocket hole jig, and while I have never seen a Kreg K4 up close, I do have the Kreg mini pocket hole jig which is basically just a standalone drill guide for making a single pocket hole. I compared the Kreg mini to the Massca (which looks identical to this Trend), and the Massca has a design flaw that the Kreg does not. Specifically, the Massca does not have a "zero clearance" template around the drill bit because they use a bushing inserted into an aluminum hole and obviously the bushing has a larger OD than the pocket-hole drill bit, but instead of just drilling a hole in the aluminum equal to the length of the bushing (with the bushing OD) and then drilling the rest of the way through the jig with a smaller drill bit (equal to the ID of the bushing), they just drilled all the way through the jig with the larger drill bit. That leaves a gap between the pocket-hole drill bit and the edges of the pocket template in the jig, and that allows some tear-out. In contrast, Kreg seems to have done it the right way, i.e., they drilled the rest of the hole in the jig with a drill bit of equal diameter to the pocket hole drill bit.

I believe if you are buying it in that region, you'd want to look up 'Trend' brand pocket hole jigs. My understanding is that 'Massca' is the north american licensed name.

I bought the same one after looking at the Kreg. I solved the tear out by sharpening the bit that came with the kit and it works much better. I find it works great for me. I do use the screws from Lowe's that are sold for Kreg and those work fine. I have some other Banggood stuff and, to be honest, it all works pretty well and seems to be well made. Great video.

The tool is nice but there is a flaw. If you want to pocket hole in a large piece of plywood (like a dresser back), each time you move the plywood to drill a new pocket hole, you have to go around behind the plywood to release the tension on the clamp. If the piece is large, you cannot reach over or around the piece. Otherwise, it is a nice tool.

Yes it’s made from aluminum but that is the only good thing. The depth setting for the bit is something you can loose. Other units now have a better way for holding the wood. This one just copied the Kreg. There is one that sets the depth on drill bit, and locks the wood. It can change the location of the holes. That and it color coded for the screws. Look at the armor tool system. The locking device is just a pull on the handle, the locking collar is adjusted so tighten the set screw, on the side it shows the color of the screw to be used. The best thing is that if you owned an older system it’s upgradeable to the newer style.

Do you own one of these and you've had a bad experience? I've used it consistently for quite a while now and never had a single issue losing any components, or problems with it at all. My K4 on the other hand consistently had issues, got stuck, and was cheaply built. I guess we can agree to respectfully disagree? Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video!

Hey I just watched the video that pocket hole jig is cool I looked on amazon it was $89 but I seen a kreg k4 on eBay for $99 with some extras if this massca was around $30-$40 I would have got it but for $10 more I got the real deal I dig the videos thanks for sharing

The main problem that I see is that this is not portable. It would not work if you were making built in cabinets or using long pieces of wood.

Have you seen my video on the M2 Version? It has some stabilizing arms that worked out great for our desk build recently. Not it's not super portable, but not sure that's what they were going for to be honest. Thanks for checking out the video!

Way too manual work involved to use this thing. No where near as good as the K5 which i have. The machine finish is beautiful and well made. I know you said you can break down and then make it portable. Would have been nice to see how you use the portable piece on a board that you don't put in the jig. On the K4 you do have to manual set the clamp by adjusting a nut. On the K5 it is much easier to set the back part of the clamp, you just press the piece in the back up against your piece of stock then while holding it pressed against the wood, use the front lever to push up till you here two clicks then let go of back part and push clamp down. That manual adjusting on the Massca though for every single step seems like the tool is going backwards. Setting the thickness of the wood on the K5 is a piece of cake as the board thickness is right on the block you will put the bit into to drill. If i want to go portable, I slip the drill block out, carry to my piece of wood and use the supplied clamp to clamp it down onto the piece. it looks like the Massca does not have that clamp but I am sure you can use an existing one. I know you were not trying to make this a comparison of the two brands. I did watch the video from the website of this product and saw the steps to make it portable. You have to take the entire end off the Massca, then take that plate and attach it to the bottom of the drill guide with 4 rather long screws. In the promotion video you can actually see the use of it being portable where they clamped it to a board. In the video, the Massca kept shifting while drilling. Probably they didn't catch that before posting the video. I was thinking of trying another product but this is not looking too good now. They have one kit with two nice clamps, an 18 inch clamp and 11 inch and going for $99 which is what the K4 costs. Just think you get more from Massca for the money.

Is it perfect? No. Was it far superior to the plastic Kreg product I happen to own? Yes in my opinion. There are parts I didn’t show because I didn’t have a use for them and I do not like forcing stuff, again my review / my process is not the same as yours or anyone else’s.
