You're a warrior Sarah. It's not always easy being one. Some moments i get the feeling you miss Charlie and Angel being part of what you're doing, like when you drop certain comments. I do hope and wish for you to be able collaborate again so you have more company again while grinding it out day in and day out in your garage. I know having thousands of watchers from all around the world is not the same as actually having people close to you in your physical presence. I wish you nothing but the best girl. Sarah, if you ever get an MRI please make sure you mention those metal fragments in your eye. It’s possible that a tiny one might not have been completely removed and in a powerful magnet it can do some serious damage.

Funny tip about the magnet! I had a shard get stuck in my eye (not just floating around in there). It was horrible. In my panic (and the horror scenarios running through my head about Dr.s poking around in my eye), I decided to try using a magnet I had from an old hard drive to pull it out. It was a success!

I'm an old time street drag racer from the early 70's. We were lucky to have disc on the front end let alone on the rear. Stopping a 4000 lb car sometimes was more exciting than getting it going. I envy the massive stopping power you put on such a lite car. Love your show.
@craigcraigster4999 Жыл бұрын
Same here. The factory front discs on my '69 Cougar were much appreciated ("thank you" Lincoln Mercury), still wish it had discs all around like Vettes back then, but being a high school teenager I couldn't be that picky. Besides, I still needed the rest of my budget for go-fast mods such as shiny wheels, fat tires, and new paint job. 😄
@kurtburkhardt5862 Жыл бұрын
We had a 69 Cougar that had front discs. Was still fun to try and stop once we put a built 428 SCJ in it. I had a 86 5.0 modded with Nos and it had 9" discs in front with tiny drums in the back...A few times at the track I had to go out where the dragsters turned around as I couldn't stop at the street car turn out...@@craigcraigster4999

Sarah, that shoulder on the shock stud is the load-bearing surface. I'd recommend filling in the unsupported area with a bit of washer cut/welded in in the old hole or some other bit of metal to add support there. You could be running a possibility of bending that in the future, and would make for a bear to repair.

Sarah you need to keep a eye wash cup set in your shop. If this ever happens again, you'll thank yourself for having them. If it happened once, it can happen again. I also recommend the safety goggles over glasses. They work the best. Your vision is nothing to take for granted. Best wishes.
@EricV63 Жыл бұрын
Goggles are a great suggestion, but a simple rule is when tiny fragments of material are flying about, a face shield over safety glasses or goggles is really warranted and easy to use. Face shields stop everything since there are no small vents. All the more important when you're working with things above you.

Also… I needed plenty of clearance between the rear calliper and shock for the brake plumbing. The callipers are 1/8 NPT and I needed to adapt this down to a metric flare nut, so I needed room for a 90 degree adapter fitting.

That's a pretty snazzy brake upgrade there. Should have the owner headbutting the windscreen with ease 😉 One thing I would suggest with the rear shock mount is using a threaded rod joiner instead of just the single nut. Reason being is the levering forces of the shock on that 6mm thick mounting plate and nut is a bit flimsy IMO and the threaded joiner welded to in there would spread the levering forces over a large distance. Really coming together though 😊

Sometimes, it's possible to adjust the rear parking brake from the backing plate side... and perhaps like my old F100, just drive it in reverse and apply the brake, and they auto-adjust... an l-shaped bracket might have been a solution for the shock absorber, just turn the bottom mount bolt 90 degrees inwards...

My advice for getting steel particles in your eye is to grab a cheap pair of ear buds like like what used to come with your phone, wack em with a hammer, and carefully remove the tiny neodymium magnet. Its smooth and very small. Put it in your eye and let it roll around for a bit, and like magic you'll have no more steel in your eye.
