Becky is the one who taught me that even living in an apartment I could still have a decent garden in a small space. She also taught me to ask local farmers about produce not "pretty" enought to sell. That saved a lot on preserving.

Becky's approach to food security is an excellent example of how to make the most of limited resources. By growing her own produce in a small space and taking advantage of discounted produce from local farmers, she was able to preserve food in a way that maximized her resources. This not only allowed her to save money, but also ensured that she had an adequate supply of food to sustain her family. Additionally, her approach to food preservation is an excellent way to reduce food waste, as it ensures that any excess produce can be preserved for future use.

It's wonderful to hear that Becky has been able to pursue her dreams and is now able to take advantage of the benefits that come with having a larger home and bigger gardens. Her commitment to growing her own food and preserving it for later use is an excellent example of how to make the most of limited resources. I'm sure it's been a great adventure to watch her progress, and I'm grateful for your support and prayers from Florida.

Freeze-dried foods are a great way to preserve food for long-term storage, as they can last for up to 25 years without requiring refrigeration or special storage conditions. There are a variety of meals and dishes that can be created using freeze-dried ingredients, and many websites provide recipes and instructions on how to make them. You can also find instructional videos online that show how to make meals with freeze-dried foods.

This was, by far, the best advertisement for the harvest right freeze dryer! I learned so much in this one video. Who knew that a layaway plan was an option? I didn’t, but I’m happy to know that, maybe, just maybe, I will be able to save for one, I’m excited! Jamerrill, is everyone’s good friend, she’s relatable on so many levels; Travis is her rock, and the children are her pebbles 🤭.

Just a heads up for other families when buying the Augason freeze dried cans.. sometimes Walmart or Amazon will have them on clearance on their websites.. it's at random but we have gotten many cans for less than $20 (shredded potatoes, spinach, strawberries, bananas and peas were our last clearance finds...). Something to keep in mind when stocking the pantry

I know how important it is to stock up because I think with what is coming it is going to last for a very long time. I love your video's and never miss a one! I have a special needs daughter and a husband in the early stages of Dementia. I wish I had the extra money just to get an upright freezer so I could stock up on frozen items and meat but it takes our income just to get by. I am 61 and I would go back to work in a second but I am not allowed to due to my heart condition and implanted device's that keep it going. I pray and I know the Lord is on this journey with me and all of us. But the reality is I would love to stock up every time I go to the store but you can't when it takes what money you have just to get by. Your freeze dryer is going to be amazing for saving food. I know you too are a woman of faith so please keep my family in your prayer's as I will your's.

Hi Crystal, I know a lot of people are in the same boat as you and me. I like what you said "you pray and you know the Lord is on this journey with you and all of us." That is FAITH. Hold onto this Faith because that is a preservation and accumulation of what is preciously eternal than the physical. He will bring you/us through and perform MIRACLES (just as he fed the 5,000 and 7,000). He desires that we look to him not $$. He will send the Ravens like he did with Elijah. It's good to dig into the Word to take note of his miraculous performance and be encouraged. God Bless you :)

When filling your Mylar bags, use those freezer bag holder stand things that you have. That will definitely help. I also use a stainless steel scrapper to scrape and scoop the food out of the trays. Using a canning funnel helps to stuff the bags too, I got a very wide blue plastic one that fits even right in the wide mouth jars all sizes. Just a little tip. And thank you for all of your videos you share with all of us! I really appreciate you

I want a freeze drier SO badly! 😢 Still hoping someday I can get one. Something for everyone to think about; I researched a lot before I bought my first wheat berries. Several people said to put the grain bags in the freezer for 7 days to kill any eggs, so I did the first two 25 lb bags of hard white wheat & 10 lbs of hard red wheat. I got the first 25 lb of hard white & the 10lbs of hard red in the 4 mil gallon mylar bags with the oxygen absorbers. I put in 5 lbs each bag. I was so excited. I took my 2nd 25 lb bag of hard white wheat out of the freezer, but didn't have time to bag it right then, so set it aside in the basement. After MORE research, I read you should only use 5 mil bags for super long storage, the thickness helps keep the light out. ALSO, that person said, don't put your grain in the freezer, it can add moisture and sealed grain may grow mold & the oxygen absorbers will kill eggs by removing oxygen anyway. All the grain should be no more than 10% moisture. SO, now I am still waiting for a grain tester I ordered to get here so I can test the grain & may be starting all over🤪 It is an investment and that is okay, I WANT to do it right so it lasts. Just thought people might want to know about what I learned. God Bless everyone. We are all in this mess together❤️🙏🙏🙏🇺🇲 Thank you, Jamerrill🥰

Hickory nuts are a tasty nut you can eat casually on it’s own or harvest to put into baking. I grew up in southern Ontario Canada where hickory trees are prevalent. The nut is small in size, harvested after falling to the ground in fall. They are time consuming to crack the shell and harvest the meat inside but they were often one of the nuts we ate at Christmas 🎄.

Our mulberry tree when I was growing up wasn't near as big or tall as yours, but we used to just lay a white sheet underneath and have the little kids crawl up and shake the branches or we would grab the tip of the branches and shake them from there. Longterm food storage is also a great way to avoid panic buying during hard times - imagine if more people had food storages in 2020. I work with a non-profit aiding families and households in need, you wouldn’t believe how many people were unable to find basic food/household items in 2019-2020 simply because people who do have the money emptied the shelves instantly while the families in need didn’t have a chance. There are millions of people who count on grocery stores to be stocked because they don’t have the option to panic buy. I talked to and helped so many people and families who had no food or household items because by the time they got their paycheck or benefit payout, the stores were already empty. We can all help those people by being prepared ourselves, and refraining from buying too much at once whenever there’s a shortage of something. If you have the space and finances to do so, please consider stocking up on food and/or household and hygiene products. And always remember; in an emergency, the people who need it the most are rarely the first ones in line at the food banks.

Just to give you a mommy tip when you’re picking berries or things fruits whatever save your milk jugs 1 gallon jugs slightly cut about 3 inch hole (cut out the spout part) above the handle leave the handle intact fit on a carabiner or your belt loop or slide your belt through the handle fantastic and you’ll know pretty close to how much of a gallon you have or multiple gallons and the kids can help and they have a handle to hold on to that way you can pour them over to fill each jug and see how many gallon you have

Another tip for your sealer of you start having issues with it there's a little screw on the inside if you tighten it will start working again. We have one at my work. We went through 3 before this was figured out.

The things that are left to unpack our books for when we have more bookshelves built and also some childhood keepsake for the kids. We do have everything mapped out for when we get to our basement renovation. 2022 is about finishing the kitchen renovation though 😁😁😁

I love your huge house and the huge basement ! What a blessing to have all that extra space for storing things and making extra rooms that may be needed or a nice prepping area with a freeze dryer like you have because it’s quite a process and it’s pretty loud too.I sure wish my house had a basement!

Just so you know.... those were not blackberries. We call them black caps and they are a wild raspberry varietal! Super delicous!

I guess that’s why they are also smaller? I have some on our property too and I was thinking that they were small compared to the store variety that maybe I needed to fertilize them to get bigger blackberries for next year. Lol so thank you for telling us the info !

Im from Kentucky and we have reg hickory nut trees and shag bark hickory nuts you can pick them up after they fall off the tree crack and use them like walnuts or pecans. I also have black walnuts, pecans, persimmons, elderberries, wild and tame grapes wild and tame blackberries. We planted orchards over 20 years ago and we continue adding each year. If you will plant your strawberries in a bed and let them produce runners those will make new strawberry plants and you’ll find a considerable increase in the amount of strawberries you’ll get. Hope this helps

Oh, what I wouldn't give for a basement?!? I'm so envious! I have over two years put back in my little 800 square foot house, with no basements. They are in closets under two queen beds, a couple of stand alone pantries. All concealed so far... But extra cabinetry and basements fill me with longing!

Here in the UK it's hard to get freeze driers and pressure canners. We can import them from the states at a cost but often things are unavailable. It's as if someone doesn't want us preserving our food 🤔 Dehydrating, WB canning, jams and pickles it is! Thanks for all the storage tips xx

Have you asked at an appliance store to order them in? Usually they will as soon as they know people want them, it's just about making them aware of it. Even tech nerds can't stay up to date on it all, i would ask before coming to the conclusion they don't want you to have food, but anyway that way they eat the cost of shipping as they can order larger quantities. If you want it to happen quicker-if it's not accessible through their usual suppliers- get more people that want one to ask. Hope that helps

Freezers cost a lot of money to keep running and I lost a load of food once in a long power outage so it's not my favorite way to save food. I do a lot of canning, fruits and veg in the summer, beans, soups and meats in the fall and winter. I was very ill for a year and a half it was helpful for my husband that we had so much food on hand because he really had his hands full. Now that I am well we are starting to stock up. I watched Becky cook freeze dried eggs and it was so cool!

I love foraging on our farm for food. We have been here 4 years and have discovered blackberries, raspberries, elderberries, and black walnuts. Our previous farm had the best hickory nut tree. That's the one thing I miss. I have been researching the harvest right freeze dryer, but will need to save and figure out how to make it work with our budget. Thanks for the information.

We can food and some has kept 20 yrs or more and was still good as it was when canned. We use seal a meal bags for meat so it will last for yrs without freezer burn. Also look dry beans and seal with oxygen absorbers inside. We open wash and cook. Dry food also will last for yrs. Jamerrill you are such a hard working momma. You and Travis are doing such a great job. Love your videos. ❤️🇺🇸❤️

I know back when they made the different canning lids that food did last like forever… but today the canning lids are recommended for I think 18 months or about two years in storage and that it needs to be eaten in that timeframe ..so that’s frustrating to think of canning up food when the seal on the canning lids supposedly won’t last more than several years! Does anyone have info about that incase I’m wrong about the seals only lasting several years? I want it to last as long as I need them to last since I love canning so much!

Hickory nuts can be roasted, take the nuts out of the outer husks, you can gage the ripeness of the nuts by the husks. Green is not ripe enough, but brown is done and sweeter. Put in a bowl with olive oil and salt (depending on how many nuts you have), mix well and put on a baking sheet. Heat oven to 300 degrees and roast nuts for 1- 2 hours. Take out and let sit for 30 to 40 minutes till room temperature. Keep in a resealable container. Taste to see if the flavor is good, you can add salt if need be. Don't eat nuts after 3 weeks.
