Finally - one of the few occasions where a panhandle is actually correct! 😁 This must (should?) be one of the most requested tutorials after 'hOw CaNz i MaKe mY sMaSh mOrE hArDeR?!' 😉 Very well explained, I particularly like the fact you included the tip about not getting too close to the shuttle - that's really important to enable the correct arm action...although people have to be careful not to fall into the trap once known as 'the Danish swipe' i.e. the racquet still needs to come through on the vertical plane, not the horizontal! (correct positioning also means you're not dragged as far away from the centre of the court) Maybe a mini tutorial about generating backhand "whip" would be helpful for some people?
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! 😆 It was pretty highly requested yes! Yeah we've had a couple of people ask about the whip, here's what we've said: Generating 'whip' is essentially increasing the speed of your racket swing just before you make contact with the shuttle. You can do this by using the back of your shoulder more and squeezing your fingers to create more power in your swing and also using more forearm rotation as you strike the shuttle.

@@BadmintonInsight in Ye Olden Days some coaches were known to ask players to practise the whipping action using a towel!
@Syega
@Syega 2 жыл бұрын
@@BadmintonInsight While I generally find your explanations detailed and helpful (and thank you for them :) ), this is one where I just have no idea how it should play out. Namely, how the squeezing action should go exactly. First, my basic instinct leads me to do it similar to a forehand, driving the racket backwards in this instance. Getting over that is quite simple, but trying to make it go forwards results in a ridiculous "flopping" action, with nearly no power. Simply the distance between my palm and the handle when I fully relax the grip is just too small, with my fingers wrapped around it. I also feel a "drag" on my fingers that is not present with other grips/squeezes, like the direction or the pivot point is off. I tried to slow down the video to catch some detail, but to no avail. Maybe it is due to some simple rookie mistake, as I was never shown this grip by my coach. Could you be so kind as to give me some pointers? Thank you in advance and keep up the good work!

Hi guys - this is brilliant - so, to recap, stiff, cocked wrist throughout the shot, power more from the shoulder and fingers (created more by the squeeze on the handle)? Also, can you suggest ways to regress coaching this, ie the best feed and from where? Waterfall from side? Thank you - we are huge supporters of what you guys are doing for badminton in this country and are on the total same page. 🙏🏻
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! 😊 Yes - we have just replied to another comment about generating more 'whip' for the clear: Generating 'whip' is essentially increasing the speed of your racket swing just before you make contact with the shuttle. You can do this by using the back of your shoulder more and squeezing your fingers to create more power in your swing and also using more forearm rotation as you strike the shuttle. To regress the coaching, we would suggest completely breaking it down - so something like this: 1. Shadowing the footwork 2. Shadowing the shoulder rotation and hitting action 3. Hand throw from the side of the worker where the player starts in this late position (like the thumbnail image) and only moves their feet / rotates their body when they're hitting it, and then sets back into the lunging position.This is to get used to the rotation + racket swing speed 4. Then slowly build it up to combine all of the components together (footwork, racket speed, hitting action etc) and also build it up from throwing it to the worker, to feeding it in with a racket (multi-shuttle, and then single shuttle like we showed in the video). Hope this helps! :)

Hi there, only started watching your videos in recent weeks. Loving them. Do you have any advice on racket string tension? I play a mix of singles and doubles and I always get a bit confused with what string tension to get my rackets when they need restrung. Haven't checked but do you have video on badminton kit? From racket choices, kit maintenance, footware, shuttles etc? Thanks, John

Would you recommend using weights( vests or ankle weights) while training?
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 жыл бұрын
Weights vests can be good to use yes! We have never seen ankle weights used and would imagine they would move around easily therefore would not be very practical. We have used weights jackets in our training though!

I've kept coming back to this every so often but only now taking it seriously to practice this shot... When you wrote "whip" for clears. Do you mean a snap action (like stick smash?)? Or like more of a golf swing? I think I can do the cross and straight nets with alot of slice. I can't seem to figure out the clear unfortunately!
