Best song on the best album. It's also amazing yet heartbreaking to know their best work is derived from their pain. Brann not only was able to have an album dedicated to his sister, but he also began doing vocals in the band. Really tells you how personal this project was to him.
@mysticapprenticeАй бұрын
Amazing and heartbreaking is a pretty apt description for Mastodon, you're right. These guys somehow manage to conquer pain and adversity time and again, and transform it into something that is cosmically good and, I believe, everlasting.
@omgdriggyyyАй бұрын
@mysticapprentice and what I learned, this was their 2nd album dedicated to her, since Remission was also related though more focused on the healing side of the situation where Crack the Skye was about the trauma.

This album has so much guitar candy it's ridiculous. The opening riff is pure fucking brilliance. It sets the mood amazingly.
@DeceptiveSS3 жыл бұрын
I have used at least 3 different guitars (including a 12-string acoustic) while learning that opening riff, the Brent's part. I even tried to play it on a 7-string guitar in one guitar store (since they tuned it like a 7-string one step lower while missing the actual E string). Employee came to me, smiled and said "Yeah, Mastodon". I smiled back. THis riff is glorious.

Played this after my Mom told me my Dad had a slim chance of beating cancer as a teen. 12 years after his passing, this hits hard. My cousin just died from cancer and left kids, one around the age I was. Fuck cancer and help anyone grieving. Hail Mastodon.
@inthapocket378 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for your loss.
@bigmanmccheez53429 ай бұрын
Cancer's a horrible thing to have to witness. I've also lost a cousin to cancer (though she was 4 years old) as well as my granddad so I understand what it's like (not exactly but to some degree). Cancer shouldn't be the reason people die but sadly life can randomly decided to say "fuck you" without a moments notice. To anyone who is grieving, don't get absorbed by it. It's a horrible event but it's sadly unavoidable. Don't think about the bad part of it, think about the memories of that person and use it as inspiration. My grandad put a very strict emphasis on education. I worked my ass off to get good grades so i could get into the college course i wanted. At my graduation i wore his tie as a way of having him watch me graduate since he never got the chance. I don't want this to come across as me bragging, it is not intended to come across that way. Just make the most of the time we have so that at the time we inevitably die, we know that we have done the best we possibly could. Rest in piece to everyone we as humans have lost. Stay safe and strong.

This is my favorite Mastodon song in their entire catalog. The first song that comes to mind when I think of Mastodon. And this is my all time favorite album period. Any genre, any artist - nothing else comes close. I worship and revere this album. This is the holy grail - Mastodon's epic: Crack The Skye.

A-fucking-men. This album here is just perfection from start to finish. It is SOO well done. The riffs, the arrangements, the little bells and whistles added here and there, the meaning and story behind it. It's a masterpiece. Takes me to a whole new world every time I listen to it.

Nuerosis waa easily one of my top 5 favorite bands in the 90's and HEAVILY influenced the music I created myself. Scott (vox of Nuerosis/guest singer on this song) is an absolute legend. If somehow youve never heard Nuerosis. Start out with first Album- "Pain Of Mind"- its punk rock n no less. Listen to ALL I SEE IS BLACK Then move on to THRU SILVER AND BLOOD or pretty much anything lol, you cant go wrong. Hell go thru em in order. Youll see where Mastason got alot ALOT of there influence from ❤ Mastadon. Been listening since the beginning. They've grown. I havent LOVED every song, but every song has soul. No bs music. Great band. Great people. Killer musicians! Much love!
