Just an FYI guys, the song was initially just the first part and was ready to be released in a couple of weeks but Ren always felt that there was something missing. Then after an interview with Knox Hill here on YT, where the subject of his childhood came up he started to talking about his best friend Joe Hues. The story of night of when Joe jumped from a bridge & Ren rushing there to try & stop him started to choke him up. After the interview was finished he said that, he sat at his keyboard & these words just poured out of him in minutes. He immediately recorded it in one take & sent it to his sound engineer & told him to tack it on the end. It was all a last minute rush, a tribute to his best friends memory.

Touching reaction guys, more touching when you revealed you´ve been there too. That´s hard. He really put things in a way that makes you think but he also has upbeat and fun songs. I would love to see more Ren on the channel so I suggest some of those "upbeat" ones: "Animal Flow" for sure is a fun one, "Money Game part 2", and "Illest Of Our Time", these songs stand tall with all his best work. Cheers.

Ren is an ARTIST with a capital letter and not just a songwriter-singer. You have to listen to the story of Jenni and Screech, only there you have to hear all three parts strictly together. It turns out that he is a great guitarist, an excellent actor, and uses his voice and the acoustic effects of the place with the skill of an opera singer. Also, his collaborations with Chinchilla are also gems. This person is not here by chance!!! Many need a voice of hope, and He can give it. And with this song, in addition to saying a dignified farewell to his friend, whose dead body was never found, the example of the two, the grief that comes through in his performance, I think will deter many from taking the fatal step. We should thank him for saying the difficult and sometimes hurtful thoughts on our behalf and encouraging us to think and prioritize HUMAN RELATIONS.

Besides his obvious amazing talent, Ren letting us into his real world is what’s binding us and getting people to talk. How many artists record not only their raw lyrics, but their tears as well, and share it with the world? He’s an open book, and I think because he’s so respected for his singing, rapping, producing, writing, playing, etc, people listen to him, and they feel empowered or compelled to share their own experiences. He had stated he’s always wanted his music to bring people together, and he’s doing it ❤️

Suicide doesn't end the pain. It simply transfers it and multiplies it to those around you. Not committing suicide only because you don't want to force that burden on your friends and loved ones might not be the healthiest reason long term, but sometimes it's all I have. I've watched and commented something similar on quite a few reactions to this song. It's as much or more for me than anyone else. I need to keep reminding myself.

Survivors' guilt plagues me. I lost so many childhood schoolfriends (we were all Disabled and went to a "Special" school) - a few every year from the ages of 7 to 20 as I went to college with Disabled people too. I recently turned 55, and most of my life's been spent looking in the rear view mirror, hoping The Reaper isn't sneaking up on me. I'm currently in hospital, having survived another health scare. I've now been diagnosed with sleep apnea, so that's another new reality I have to face.

So I'm really sorry I've been absent, you might remember that my cat was sick. Well his suffering was ended in my arms with the help of the vet at home. It's just gone past a few anniversaries of people who have passed, many from sui. One in particular fractured a whole friend group. I was actually one of the last people to speak to him. It was late, we were playing WoW & he was like "well it's getting late, I need to go" & I thought nothing of it. Until when his housemate, a friend as well, called at like 8am when she got in from work. Hearing his phone going off & his mum leaving increasingly frantic voice mail was awful. We weren't allowed to tell his family as they lived a couple of hours away & were sending a team of specialist people to tell them. I was in a domestic violence relationship at the time & this friend was the only person who stood up to my ex. When he went it was like a light went out. I can't even count how many I've lost to this. Between cancer & sui it has to be a close call. Right now I'm very very broken & I just want to hug everyone to try to put the pieces back together. Today I managed to brush my hair for the first time in weeks. I've really hit a critical mass or something. The colour is gone from the world. Ren is doing important things, getting people to talk.

Thanks for your thoughts on Ren's tribute song to Joe Hughs. I think Ren won out on the CNN feature as Hi Ren now has 15 million views and he's near the 1 million followers over 400 thousand since S was premiered so as he said it in a post talking about it and getting help to others isn't promoting the act. If you haven't heard it, I recommend listening to Ren's Song Depression. There is one line that I've had to be careful that I don't lash out with towards others. "Don't tell me things will get better 'Cause so far things haven't got better" I feel that lyric deep within my soul. Truthfully I feel that entire song a lot deeper than I'd like to.

Watching your reaction and knowing the musical background that you are coming from, two things became obvious to me: one is that good music is going to touch a lot of people regardless of what their musical preferences normally are. Number two is that this song is so perfect and powerful because it is so “imperfect” in its structure. Although it’s definitely the second part that hits more heavily, it would not be as impactful and deep, or might even come across as cheesy without the first part. On the other hand, the first part would almost come across as superficial and a bit too light hearted considering the subject. But because it is so well done from a production stand point, because it lures you in with the relatable lyrics, and because it has the mesmerizing visuals, it kind of preps you for the second part that suddenly hits you in the face with Ren’s personal and incredibly heart breaking experience of losing his best friend, a story that everybody can relate to in some way. Thank you for your honest reaction!

great reaction, has been a few months since i listened to this track (deffo not an every day player...), where Hi Ren is deep and optimistic with a message of hope, this song i think reflects more regret and pain for what happened. oh ren how you pull at our emotions sometimes....

Ren's heavy breathing at the transition represents him being out of breath from running as fast as he could to the bridge where Joe was. He got a call saying Joe was was there and he was thinking about jumping. Ren lived was closest to the bridge so he got dressed ran there as fast as he could and calling Joe the whole time and it's phone would ring alot and go to voicemail so he thought he still okay. When Ren got there he didn't see Joe anywhere so he called his phone and immediately it said, " this phone is no longer in service" and you only get that message when a phone has been broken or submerged in water and no longer working. So Ren was two minutes too late 😢 RIP JOE HUGHES and everyone else in the world lost to suicide.

It is easy to spot reactors who have unfortunately experienced suicide in their lives while watching this video. You didn't have to say a word, the pain in your eyes was evident and afterwards, when you both confirmed losses, it made my heart ache for you. Chels, survivor's guilt is so destructive and for anyone feeling this I urge you to seek help. I don't know if you read your comments but if you do, please don't let it eat you up inside. I am 65 years of age and lost my sister to suicide when she was just 17, which was 48 long years ago. The impact it has had on my life has been catastrophic and I feel as if I've been walking around in a 'Chalk Outline' ever since (another Ren song ....)
