This easy DIY XL heavy duty shrub/bush/ornimental tree planter is awesome! In this video, I will be teaching you step-by-step how to build this huge planter by using only 4 fence pickets and a 2x4! In my area right now pine pickets are $1.98 each and the cedar pickets have come down to $3.37. 2x4s are $3.38. That means that you can make these beautiful planters for around $12 in the material. I've received countless success stories from people building and selling tons of the picket planters of each design so make sure to check them out! I'll link the other planter designs below.

Thanks for this new planter idea. I have built 10 each of your last four planters which I have taken to my local Flea Market and rented the space next to flower and tree sellers. I asked if I could borrow some of their flowers and trees to stage my planters. I told the sellers than I would tell any of my customers were I got them from. They gave me a discount if I sold their plants with my planters. I sold every planter I brought before 1pm and 90% of the plants I had in them. This seller said I could use some of their double spaces new weekend to sell my planters and their plants. Thank you again,

Lighthouses would make for a cool picket build I think. I live on the coast and a tonne of people love the look of wooden garden lighthouses, built as short and as tall as 2ft-10ft tall. Every time I see one I think how easy it would be to make one out of fence pickets or pallet wood.

I built two of the 20 inch ones today. I tried the pocket hole method but the wood kept splitting out so I just used a counter sink bit and drilled out the holes on the legs to hold the boards. I also increased the width of the bottom slats from 1/2 inch to 1 inch so those pocket holes would not split out. Also as soon as I posted them in a woodworking group I'm in they wanted to know everything so I shared your video. 05/03/2023

An unexpected request I’ve had is to make the base of the planter (whatever the style) to be able to fit a Lowe’s or Grainger 5 gal bucket. I didn’t think much of it at the time. But putting that in the description of my products increased my sales. All it took was taking some of Matt’s designs (which I’ve bought the plans for) and tweaking the measurements. Oh, also people want the top of the planter to be at least an inch proud of the lip of the bucket.

I found that when you set the cross boards flush with the outside of the frame - the corners split on the legs when you drive in the pocket screws... Even tried switching to 1" just regular screws and it still split. Had to remake 2 of the legs... In the end I used a 1/4 piece of a birch wood to inset the cross boards and had NO problems after that. Plus the legs stand out a little more proudly now too!!! About done with the fist one - and for my first time dealing with angles, I WISH you had explained the shapes a little better so I understood if it was like this - \___/ or /___/ Either way - I appreciate the video and it's turning out GORGEOUS. Like jeTah said, build 2 of these for the ends. I would slightly modify the side where the seat will attach to, as that is where you will mount the seat connector. I made 1 with pallet wood and 2x4's. Measures 9' in total length. My planters are not this nice, but they work. Put small spacers between the 2x4's on the ends and a couple along the length.

This was an easy decision to buy the project plans. The one thing I did a bit differently was cutting the 45 degree cuts first, and on a longer than needed piece of wood. I cut the 45 degree angles first in case I screwed up (which I did). That way I just chopped off the offending miter cut without ruining the whole piece. Practicing on scrap lumber before hand helped too since my old DeWalt chop saw doesn't have a shadow or laser cutting guide.

Great simple explanation of what looks to be a complicated build. $30 of material can turn around and sell for $100+. One tip to make things easier; set up stop blocks on either side of the blade for cutting the decorative leg grooves so there's no need to measure/mark and no chance of cutting in the wrong spot. Same thing for the top bevel. Just bump, chop,turn.. no brainer. Also I know you're building this for the video, but there are 1" pocket hole screws with a yellow outdoor coating. Armor Tools makes them. Keep up the good work.

Hi Matt, I started my backyard overhaul and used you amazing model to complement the patio furniture. I have learned a lot and thanks to you. Just I assume, the C and D walls should be 16 1/2" to accommodate the support slats. Cheers, Mike

I built one today can some one check my math? 22 inches - 3 = 19. 1 3/4 + 1/4 = 2. 19 - 2 =17. I cut the Wall Boards at 17 1/2 so they hung over by 1/2 inch so I was off by 1 inch. I move the bottom Cross Board down to 3/4 kept on building.

Had my first show yesterday, sold 2 of the farmhouse style and 1 of the original 2 picket tapered planters. I was encouraged, but it looks like the market is getting saturated, 2 others at this show had the cedar garden baskets from a couple of weeks ago, each with it's own twist, but not many people were buying.

This is the issue I'm having as well, the width of the cedar pickets shrink leaving gaps. Is the hey to this buying the pickets and letting them sit in the garage for a week or two?
@philmurphy7487
@philmurphy7487 Жыл бұрын
@Eric Wall i couldnt tell ya, ive left these 2 stacks of 10, clamped together, in my garage for almost 3 months and they still shrank. My only advice would be to no have them all together. Try having one, then shim up another on top, and so on. I put all 10 boards on top of eachother and found only the top one was really dry but the others were still damp. Having that gap inbetween would aerate well

@@ericwall8862 if you have a dry garage, running a small fan directed across or along the length would speed the process a lot! Shift the fan around a bit, and get different locations after a few hours in one area! And use small sticks to allow maximum drying!
