I think it's ok to be honest about things you don't like. I guess food bloggers like you are afraid they may affect the businesses they review. But since you pointed out how popular it is with locals, it's all good. It's just a personal preference.

Talking about something you don't want to eat ....life in North America is so busy, my mom cooked 2-3 times a week, and those food stayed in the fridge for rotation, you see them again and again and again for that week, sometimes for 2 weeks if they're overcooked. I love the randomness you see on the streets of Vietnam, you craved something but by the time you hit the street you eat something else.

I love your honesty and the fact that you didn’t like the stew too much was because it didn’t have the Vietnamese flavour and was too western tasting. Your taste buds have become vietnamese all the way lol. And of course I’m always impressed with how much chilli you can eat. That bun cha Hanoi looked so good! 🤤

I think for the beef stew, you probably anticipated more Vietnamese flavors (like a bo kho) and when it tasted just like something you can have in the US, you were disappointed? The bun cha looks amazing and OMG, I'd be at that fried place all day every day! Her fried goods looks superb! The women of Hanoi are very beautiful as has been mentioned by others in the past.

Wine has been Vietnamised as Vang (French influenced) Sot Vang means beef marinated with Wine Sauce. The Hanoian usually marinate beef with red wine before braising.

Ah tiện là e nói thật đồ ăn Hà Nội càng ngày càng công nghiệp, họ chú trọng tới số lượng chứ k phải chất lượng. Do người dân các nơi đổ về nữa, họ cũng rất dễ dãi với ẩm thực Hà Nội. Kiểu như khách chiều quán quá quán hư. Không như ở miền Trung và miền Nam, rất đậm vị và rất ngon. E ở HN 20 năm rồi mới vào SG đc 1 năm và e mê món ăn trong này cực kỳ vì ngon heeee

The best way to eat bun cha is to put bun, veggies, pork bbq into a bow then drizzle the sauce on top & chow down. All ingredients complementing each other. And for the beef in wine sauce, that bowl don’t look appealing to me at all. I like the fact that you are honest about your experience. 👍

Hey Max, the sot vang you had looks like it has a lot of filler like cornstarch or something and food coloring. The real sot vang is not as viscous and the actual cut of the beef is tendon with a little bit of meat attached. If you want real sot vang go to pho goc gao in Ba Dinh district, 3 generations kind of place.
