You are seriously hallucinating if you think that being the owner of a motorcycle repair shop that you'll be off weekends. You know as well as anyone that Saturday's and Sunday's are when your customers are off and need your services most. I'd maybe adjust to being closed Sunday/Monday. You'll work more being self employed than you ever will have before.

Congrats, John. GO FOR IT. Tough deal at first, but you seem to be just the kind of guy that can make it work, and work well. Just offer the same “customer friendly” attitude you had at the other gig, & don’t let ANYTHING discourage you. There’ll be bumps, but set your personal suspension up so the bumps become “just part of the ride on the road to success”. Appears you’ve already done that by the unbridled excitement you’re displaying.

I hope you get yourself a good surveillance system. And by that I mean not some crap you buy at Sam's or Costco. Reinforce all of your door jams. Use 3M security film on your windows. Light it up at night like a prison. And a top quality video surveillance system. There's a company called Security Camera Warehouse out of Texas. They'll build a system to your exact needs, coverage areas , distances, whether it's inside or out, day/night capabilities, HD etc. I'm not promoting any of these companies but I've used them in my personal life and swear by them. Do yourself the justice because if you don't you'll regret it. Trust me!!!!

Doc Harley seems to work on older bikes right next to the new ones. Maybe because dealers have a harder time up selling you or getting replacement parts from the factory leading to less mark up in profits? Dont feel bad, my local Dodge dealer wont work on my 2008 charger (with lifetime warranty), but will work on a 2010 charger. It's the same model. They didnt change till 2011. Go figure

you can make the hours that you wish, but sat. hours will be when you make the most money. Right now, things might be different, because no one is working, but when things get back to normal, people will only have time for your business on the weekends. Maybe close 1 day during the week, to make up for being open on Sat. Sure maybe 15-20 yrs down the road, when your business is established and you have employees working for you, than you can have your weekends off, but right now, starting out, I don't think you want to limit weekend work. Just my opinion, your not the first person who started out thinking they can have sat. off, only to find out later that they really need to work due to the demand on weekends. Good luck, you have a good head on your shoulders, just use it to be flexible to meet the demands of your customers and you will make it. Remember this, word of mouth about any business, can and does, make it or break it.

So then ten thousand things need to be do all the same time?, sounds like opening a business.😁 John, Can you talk about getting ready for a shop, I know you need a bunch of permits for everything. I'm a small business doing writing and photography back in the days of film we used a lot of chemicals and sometimes needed permits for those chemicals. Good luck on the new shop, its a weird feeling starting your own business, you are excited, scared, nervous, anxious and happy all at the same time. I had a question, John? I have a 2016 Dyna and it has a stage 1, and was dyno tuned. If I change the air cleaner do I gotta retune it?

Glad to see things are coming along for you man and working out! If I'm ever down south, since you're not really that far from North Carolina, I'll definitely look forward to stopping in to check out the shop!
