With the release of Maya 2013 Extension you will now be able to boot Maya into a DX11 display mode. This will allow you to run DX11 (with HLSL shaders) directly in Viewport 2.0. Check out this short demo showing the various types of shader effects that can be created with the new HLSL-based UberShader.

great tutorial Steven as usual I have a questing can you layer DX11 shaders together? For example like a rock with moss and control where i want the moss with a mask so i can use tileable textures for the rock and the moss?

at 0:58 when you selected the icon on the left i cant seem to find that... the bar on the left where the icon is doesn't go down far enough and i don't know how to scroll down it. please help me!

Is it possible to add more light to the maya uber shader? What if I want to use 6-7 lights to lit character or scene is it possible to add atribute to the uber shader ?

Maya is a modeling program that you can build or create things very precisely. You use polygons and vertices. It also has a lot of other features, such as animation, lighting, rigging, rendering, etc. 3D studio max is similar and most people use either one. I do know that 3DsMax seems to be chosen more for video game creation, but you can use maya or 3Ds max for video game creation or animation. Mudbox is more of a sculpting program. You use it to get details quickly. Most use a combination them

Thx for posting this video I want to actually start learnign 3D modelling and experiment with it. Do u know what is the difference between Maya, 3dsMax or Mudbox? Which r their uses?

Hi, I'm using Maya 2013 but I can't seem to find the dx11 under the display preferences option. Do I need to download the extension from Autodesk?

is that a bug at 5:20? dragging the colour slider to zero and back loses the hue.

How did you set up reflections? (Should it be a cube map? I tried one that I use in UDK and it only made the object darker.) And how do you improve shadow quality? I had to bump the map resolution way up to get a nice shadow but the filter on the shadow doesn't blur any more.

I can't seem to get this to work no matter what I try, please help. I don't even get past the application of the shader, I've got the plugin loaded, the renderer selected, everything. Please help.

Good to see autodesk using direct X 11, Will you be adding this to 3ds max 2014 also? and do you also plan on making Pflow use more than one single core?

Your friend was very cool video these models were very detailed and realistic! but can they be used in more complex work like a PS3 game?? Hug ...

Aren't some of the features in the DirectX 11 viewport also available in OpenGL 4.x? I don't see why Maya shouldn't natively support hardware tessellation considering most of Maya's certified graphics cards today do. It's kind of lame that the most popular 3D application in the entertainment industry hasn't outgrown OpenGL 1.1

do you know a good way to learn how to 3D model? or just watch tutorial videos im guessing would be best way? these look very complicated and are kinda intimidating :/
